Scientists in Canada (where else?) recently conducted exhaustive research into the keys behind goalie success.
Using cameras that record both the goalkeeper's eye movements and the object of their gaze to within 16.67 milliseconds, the researchers then put eight goaltenders from Calgary schools with 15 years of experience on average through their paces, as the goalies were pitted against the best shooters on their respective teams.
Their findings?
Of course, we're oversimplifying to make a point -- the point being to mock actual scientists who spent considerable time and brainpower (infinitely more brainpower, we readily admit, than is ever used in the development of this blog ... so don't even bother pointing that out) to come to the conclusion that the key to stopping an object heading at your head at speeds up to 100 mph is to keep your eye on it.
