Thoughts on Suns look better ... at least offensively

Saturday, April 1, 2006, 09:41 AM EST [The Phoenix Suns , San Antonio]

The  Suns    are  very  a   competitive  team  and  no  doubt  will  do   well  in  the  playoffs.  However,  I  feel   due   to  their  overall  lack  of  experience  ,  it  will  be  hard to  see  them  overcoming    The  San Antonio  Spurs   should  they  make  it  to  the  Western  Conference Finals.  The   Spurs  are  a  well  oiled  machine ,  built  to  win  under  the  most  arduous  of  circumstances.  They   can  beat  you  either  way,  with  an   up  tempo  style  of  basketball  or   through  a    transitional  type  of play.   And  in  Tim  Duncan  they  a  have  a  prototypical   type  of  player  who's  unselfish  and  makes  the  players  around  him  better.  The  Suns   for now  are  an  exciting   team  to  watch,  and  they  play  with  so  much  exuberance.  In  Shawn  Marion   and  Amare  Stoudemire  they  two  of  the most  exciting  young  talents  in  the  NBA.    Steve  Nash 's  play  this  year  has  been  phenomenal ,  far exceeding  his  play  of   last  season.    He's  now  without  doubt,    the best  point  guard  in  the  NBA.    Jason   Kidd   has  been  impresssive,  and  the  future  Hall of Famer  has been one  for the  ages.  But   now  is  Nash's    time,   other  than  Chauncey  Billups, Tony  Parker  and   Jason Terry ,  the   point  guards  aren't  really  that  impressive.  Boris  Diaw  who  can  play  the  point  or  two-guard  is  steadily  learning  the  position  and in  the near  future  will  be  a  major  star   in the  league.  His  play  is  somewhat  fashioned  on  Nash's,  but   with  more  athleticism   and  offensive  prowess.  He  and   Leandro  Barbosa  along  with  Marion, Stoudemire and  Raja  Bell  form  the  nucleus  of  a team  that  will  one  day  be  NBA   Champions.  Under   Mike  Di Antoni's   coaching  the  team  will succeed  but  they  will  have  to  be  more  disciplined  on the  defensive   end  of  the  court  in  order  to  be  considered  one  of  the   truly  elite   teams   of the   NBA.   Much  like  The  Spurs   and  The  Pistons  who've  proven  my  point.
