If the rumored reports in The New York Daily News are to be believed. Where does that leave The Knicks as an NBA franchise ? Since the hiring of Isaiah Thomas and Larry Brown, what credibility the team had as a once proud franchise has all but dissipated into a team that's struggling to find its way and its identity. Through wreckless maneuvering on Thomas' part by way of ill concieved trades, this team has sufferred. And it has shown no signs of abating. Added to this , that Brown was brought in to coach the team and yet nothing has really changed. Throuhgout the season The Knicks played undisciplined basketball, and at times appeared to be no better than a poor girls' varsity team. To many this may seem to be a slight to girls' varsity basketball everywhere. In no way is this meant to be, but I can't find any other comparison to make about their present predicament. The Dolan family has money to burn with their hirings and firings, but in the real sense of the matter what they ought to do is to get rid of Isaiah Thomas and Larry Brown, altogehter. They need to bring in someone with an astute knowledge of NBA basketball to run the front office and then hire a young coach who is like minded and a tough disciplinarian. At present the candidates out there are thin, but this is the time that it should be done. Larry Brown lacked the intensity to turn this franchise around, albeit that he was given a 5 year contract he was an abject failure from the beginning. And in Thomas you had a G.M. who had no idea as to what he was doing. He often felt that he could trade his way to turning around the franchise. And in doing so he has saddled the team with a burdensome situation of contracts that are long termed and players who've never reached or played up to their full potential. Therein lies the problem with the team. Should Thomas decide that he is best served by returning to the bench and coaching the team then the 2006-07 season will be a long season for The Knicks and their fans. Somehow, I don't think that the Dolans will allow for that to happen. Then again I may be wrong ! Having Thomas coaching this team won't be in their best interests. Perhaps you guys out there , can come up with the candidates who might best fill the positions of G.M. and coach of The Knicks? Come on give it a try I'd like to read your take on it ! For me the perfect candidate as G.M. would be Jerry West , but no way is that going to happen. He's not about to leave The Grizzlies, anytime soon. As coach my immediate thought was that Sidney Lowe would be great fit. But his acceptance of the position at N.C. State negates that situation. So where does that leave us ? Nowhere........now I'm really at a loss.
