WSOP The Big Guns Bite The Dust !

Monday, August 7, 2006, 11:43 PM EST [Joe Hachem WSOP Champion 2005]

Well  for  those  of  you   that   were   interested   the  big  guns  of  the    World  Series  Of   Poker  have  all   fallen  by   the  wayside  leaving  this  year's   prize     to  be   won  by  an   unknown.

So  why    did   the  talent    fall   you   may  ask ?     Well  there's    only   one  answer    for  this.............sheer   luck   and    nothing   but  luck.     Joe  Hachem    last  year's   champion    fell   ignominiously    amongst  the  also  rans   when    so  much  was  expected   of  him.    But    the  fact  that     the  other   players  of  distinction    such  as     Brunson, Ivey  , Matusow, Hellmuth,  Harman    and  Duke    have   also     left    the  table   without    there  being     a  notable    player   left  to  carry  the  torch   of  the  big  guns.      The   tournament   will  become     anti  climactic.      The   fans    will  now   have     to  look   to   a  new   name     to  affix   their   sights  on.

    Phil IveyPhil Hellmuth  Doyle Brunson

That   being  said   when  the  favorites    fall  from    grace   we   tend   to   set  our  sights   upon  the  feel  good  story  of  the  moment.   And   to  date     there   haven't  been   many.  So  as  I  said   we'll   have   to   affix    our  sights   on   an  amenable  player   who's   luck  will  carry  him  through  to  the  final      table.       For  those  of  you   out  there  who  are    poker  fans     sit   back  and      enjoy  the  spectacle     while    it   lasts.

Phil Ivey ,  Phil Hellmuth ,  Doyle Brunson
