Not since the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005 have they seen so much havoc in the city of Miami. And who should be surprised by it all ? Afterall this was a team that performed so badly in the regular season within the NFL. That many thought that there was a serious threat of Miami Dolphins going winless for the season.
Mr Clean and his presence will be welcomed in Miami. He's live persona will be that of Bill Parcells.
But for the myopic and naivete' of the now departed Brian Billick that record of mediocrity would've prevailed. The Ravens succumbed to a team that was so bad at times that it was beyond farcical in watching them. At times the Dolphins' play was reminiscent of watching silent movie from the twenties. And if one had muted the sound on their tv you may well have thought that of the team. This team would've made the Keystone Cops seem athletic in their prowess.

Now with the arrival of the renowned Bill Parcells the luster that once was the Miami Dolphins we're led to believe will rise to the surface like a phoenix. But aren't those extinct one might ask ? Well I dare say to most Dolphins' fans any semblance to return to some normalcy for the franchise would be welcomed. Billionaire owner Wayne Huizenga was virtually on the cusp of selling the franchise. Do I hear a bid ?

Well alas , Wayne has now got his man and Parcells has been swift and merciless in his execution of personnel decisions. With the simple premiss of Donald Trump and his Apprentice reality show . Parcells has shown the door to GM Randy Mueller and now long suffering coach Cam Cameron. Were it not for these two individuals whose depth or lack of knowledge of the game. This franchise wouldn't be in the position it is in today. Bad personnel decisions along the way and a coach who commanded about as much respect as piece of excrement beneath one's feet has led Miami to where it is today. Say nothing of which Cameron's predecessors weren't too enlightened either when it came to coaching within the NFL ranks. Nick Saban and Dave Wannstedt have been as enlightening as a damp squib in their tenure with the franchise.

A 1-15 was nothing to write home about. But at least they won a game didn't they ? And as I alluded to before but for the stupidity of Brian Billick and the Baltimore Ravens ' coaching staff the Dolphins would've remained winless. So what can be expected of Bill Parcells and his four year plan ? That's the length of contract but seriously doubts that he'll see it right the way through. It's not been within his nature to stay that long with a franchise even after rebuilding from the ground up. Especially with his most return to the game where he remained a little over two years with the Dallas Cowboys. Well if you had Jerry Jones looking over your shoulder at your every move like your a child taking test wouldn't you too leave abruptly ? The off field antics of prized wide receiver Terrell Owens could well have swayed him in his decision to leave. But no one can't deny what we're seeing with the Cowboys this season has come from the seeds sown by Parcells with regard to their personnel.
Huizenga was prudent in choice of Parcells as he's seen the franchise slip from its once lofty perch . No longer a perennial contender within the AFC let alone the NFL. They've become a bye product of their own making . The hiring both Wannstedt and Saban were clear missteps. And now in hiring in Parcells it could be said that they're back on a sure footing as of now. In his role as their head of player personnel all decisions concerning the staff will down to him. It'll be his choice in the hiring a coach for the franchise that'll clearly steer the team for the next four or five years as the case might be. As to who that coach may well end up being is anyone's guess at this juncture. But one thing for sure the person chosen will clearly have to have a real tough approach and be able to stand up to Parcells' personality. He may well come across as being congenial on television. But underneath that semblance of a persona lies the heart of tortuous and no nonesense approach to the game of football. He's not one to suffer fools gladly !
Dolphins' starting quarterback Cleo Lemons picture courtesy of ap/photo/Steve Beckwith..........
The current roster of the staff is not too meaningful to look at. And not one of the players on the team could it be clearly be said is franchise type of a player. Having Ricky Williams return to the team like a prodigal son was short lived. And one would doubt that his mental attitude has changed where one would believe that he regain his form of old. Ronnie Brown their running back of the future is still rough around the edges and still learning the game. Defensively this team no loner possesses a real threat. And in many cases the veterans on defense have become long in the tooth. Zach Thomas is longer the feared linebacker he once was. And for teammate Jason Taylor the love of the game just doesn't seem to be there anymore. I suppose that's what losing does to a team and a player when it becomes so repetitive ? Especially when the coaching staff has no answers to each weekly debacle. Their ideas have become spent as to was their attitude towards winning. Cameron , himself was somewhat enthused with the win over Baltimore. As it meant he wouldn't be the coach remembered as having lost all of his team's game in the regular 16 game schedule. That's clearly a stat that no coach would want on his resume' .

So now where does the franchise go from here in terms of its personnel ? A complete rebuilding of the roster may not be out of the question altogether. And then getting a mixture of veterans and draftees to come and play in Miami will be another. We know of Parcells' success in these endeavors having guided four different teams to postseason play in his career. Whether or not he's able to achieve this with the Dolphins isn't really the question. But it should be whether or not he'll have the temperament to see this exercise all the way through. That to my mind is something that I would like the answer to and so too will the Dolphins' fans. It'll take a great deal of cajoling in trying to get Parcells to stay if things should go south in an all too immediate fashion. Four years in football is like a lifetime to some coaches and GM's when adversity is always staring them in the face at every point along the way. But to you and as I fans the immediacy of success is all most want to see from our teams.
As an avowed Pats' fan for the last fifteen years I'd become accustomed to the ups and downs of the team. But with their most recent successes it has made me feel somewhat complacent. But when you see a team go through so much turmoil . Even if it's of its own making , it does make one wonder why it is we support these teams. Our emotions are in tatters when they lose but when they win it becomes one of sheer joy and emotion. Winning is everything and the only thing that we all care about. But when it comes to losing we'd rather have nothing at all to do with it whatever form it comes in. Life immitates art in all forms and it is what moulds us and guides us. And these are the obstacles that we have to overcome in order to learn something about ourselves as individuals. So for now for the Dolphins it not has been only about losing but also learning in the process. And what they can do to better themselves for the future.
Always a welcoming tease one might think ? Keira Knightley.....

Superlatives and hyperbole are too great a word to be used to describe the play of the Portland Trailblazers as of late. If they're not the 'hottest' team in the NBA as of now. Then I'd like for someone to tell me who is ? Well we know that the Boston Celtics were going to be good with their triumvirate of Allen , Garnett and Pierce. But who amongst foresaw the play of the Trailblazers ? For many they might well as have been dead in the water once Greg Oden went down due to unforeseen complications.

What has been so enthralling about this all is the zest with which this team plays , the unselfishness of the players on the team and their commitment shown to one another oncourt. That to me has been the mark of this team. And less we forget they also possess one of the youngest lineups in the league. Under the tutelage of coach Nate McMillan the team seems to be playing as though their lives depended on it. He's got them believing in themselves and their unselfish nature is borne out by the way that they play. Albeit that they're not expected to garner a postseason berth. The experience of playing together as a team will augur well for the franchise in the future.

In LaMarcus Alridge and Brandon Roy they may well possess one of the best young offenesive tandems in the league. And even when those two budding young stars haven't been playing that well. Others have not only stepped up their game but they've also stepped to the fore and contributed a great deal to the team's overall play. It's not often that can be said of a young team that in reality has no veteran leadership on its roster. So it's left to their coach Nate McMillan to deliver that inate leadership, will and desire to win. And in may ways it epitmozes what McMillan was about as a player. He may not have been the purest of athletes but what he lacked in physical presence he more than made up for it by sheer grit and determination. And that's what we're seeing from this team at present.
Roy and teammate Martell Webster celebrate the team's thirteenth consecutive win in the league. Seen in the background is their injured center Greg Oden, whose presence no doubt has been sorely missed. Obviously there are those of us out there who feel that this team hasn't done anything much as of now. But when you look at the likes of the Celtics and what they're at present achieving. Are you sure that in two years from now that team will still be of prominence ? As it is Garnett though not yet in the twilight of his career may well be only two years away from calling it a day. And during his tenure within the league all he's had to show for his skills is one measly MVP award and not much else of merit. Some fans who've awaited the awakening of the Celtics have just began to realize afterall that Ainge quite possibly has a brain. In reality we all know that if Garnett weren't in Boston by no means would the team be having the success that it's having at present. And with the Trailblazers you can see the that this team is building something for the long haul. Whereas for the Celtics it's something that's been built for the immediacy of winning a championship. And if they should implode in the postseason one wonders what their fans'll end up thinking ?

With all that has gone on within the NBA thus far. This if anything to my mind has been one of the more surprising stories of the season. The success of the Celtics while stimulating has to be put into prespective. The Eastern Conference for all of its merits isn't exactly a beast in terms of overall talent ? What it lacks in team flair it makes up for in workman like play by the better players within its confines. The Heat are all but dead in the water ! The Bulls might as well be just treading water albeit that Ben Wallace looks like he's playing completely lost amongst his teammates. The Nets are just doing it with smoking mirrors. As you can be sure that either once Carter , Kidd or Jefferson goes down for prolonged injury spell , their season is all but done. And the Pistons will just roll along as always , though not quite under everyone's radar.

Ther Cavaliers will only go as far as LeBron can take 'em. And with the roster being what it is at present it doesn't look as if it'll be all that far. They may have struck ligthning in a bottle last year. But one can't expect it to be repeated a second time. The basketball god's aren't that altruistic. The feast is served to you on a silver platter but in the end it's up to you to finish it. And that's something they were unable to do last season. And while I won't decry what the Celtics are doing isn't great for the NBA. Unless they close out the season with an emphatic win of the NBA championship. I for one at present will just judge 'em on what they're doing as of now. And not what many feel that they should do. These aren't the Celtics of old and two or three years from now the careers of their triumvirate may well be over. And in that time if they've not at least won a championship will we all be any more the wiser for seeing them ? At least with seeing what the Blazers have to offer us at present we know that the future is indeed bright for this franchise , as of now.

And despite the fact it's still early in the season , I , as a basketball fan do like what I'm seeing from this team. They're entertaining and at the same time they're going out there and having fun . And that if anything for the game itself can't at all be bad.
Was it me or did the Cowboys just look ever so inferior to the Eagles on Sunday ? Not that I'm saying that the Eagles didn't play well but what was up with the Cowboys ? It was a game that they were expected to win handily against a team that'd been playing inconsistently. And at the same time Eagles ' quarterback Donovan McNabb's ability and temperament as a player was being questioned by many.
Cowboys' quarterback Tony Romo on his knees after fumbling the ball in the Cowboys' home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles 10-6 on Sunday at Texas Stadium. picture courtesy of getty images/Brian Bahr....
And what of the Cowboys' own quarterback Tony Romo ? His day at the office could be likened to one where he wasn't exactly clicking on all cylinders . But then again it was apparent to for all to see as his mind may well have been elsewhere. Whether or not this is the case may well be open to question . As it's certainly not the first time we've ever heard of an athlete not concentrating on his gametime performance and his mind being elsewhere. It can be said that all of us at one time or another have had this happen to us. Where we've been expected to perform well and just haven't lived up to expectations on the day. What was certainly glaring on Sunday was Romo's play and that of his teammates as they at times struggled to perform against the Eagles.
Cowboys' quarterback Tony Romo(9) gets hit by the Eagles' Darren Howard (90). picture courtesy of getty images/Brian Bahr....
However what should also be cause for concern for the Cowboys' fans was that Romo had one of worse performances for the team in a while. And to say that this was unexpected would be putting it mildly considering his play thus far this season. He's been one of the few players whose consistency has been remarkably steady for much of it. But one could allude to the fact for the less than stellar play on Sunday could well be down to the fact that he's now preoccuopied with his relationship with singer and I use the term loosely , Jessica Simpson. It could also could be down to the fact the Cowboys also took their opponents too lightly and would wax lyrically on as to what they expected of themselves come the postseason. I'm putting it out there now for you all to decide what it was that led to their demise on Sunday.

As it was this was a game they were exepcted to win handily and distance themselves from the rest of NFC as far as their apparent supremacy goes. On the face of it one could point to this as being an aberration on the team's part. But with all of the bally-hoo that's been going on with this team. I'd say that there may well be some cause for concern. Had this been a postseason playoff game the Cowboys would've been dumped on their as* and out of the playoffs altogether. As it wasn't , some will tell you that there 's no real cause for concern. But I'd beg to differ as it is around this time of the season that most teams will want to gather real momentum for the postseason itself and still carry on with that high level of play. What we witnessed by the Cowboys on Sunday was far from that.
Teen sensation and the companion of Tony Romo , Jessica Simpson is seen here in a luxury suite at the Cowboys' Eagles game on Sunday. picture courtesy of upi/photos/Ian Landrov...........
Others will tell you that Romo suffered an injury during the game and that led to his sub par play. Cowboys' coach Wade Phillips may feel that this'll be a wake up call for his team. And no doubt owner Jerry Jones may well be chomping at the bit to get to his player and berate him for his play. But the reason for this loss can't just be laid squarely on the shoulders of Romo alone. As the team as a whole was also responsible for this loss. They may well have went into the game thinking that all they had to do was to just turn up and they'd have it won. Well in the Eagles they met a formidable and erstwhile NFC and divisional foe who wanted to rain on the Cowboys' parade. As the divisional champions of the NFC East, the Cowboys had won a crown that the Eagles had held aloft on more than one occasion in ther ascent to NFC supremacy in recent years. But as of late with all of their problems they've become a team that on appearance has been on the decline.
While Sunday's 10-6 loss may not have answered a lot of questions with regard to the Eagles as a team. It certainly opened up a can of questions as to how good the Cowboys are perceived to be. They were clearly seen as the elite team within the NFC. But in light of this loss to the Eagles which some may view as an aberration. But others will clearly see that this team can be beaten if hounded into making mistakes. Romo's performance not withstanding stood at a mediocre 22.2 rating for the game with 13 of 36 in completions for 214 yds , O TD's and 3 interceptions. That initself tells you all you need to know about his own performance on the day.
With the Cowboys still having homefield advantage for the entire postseason within the NFC. It's hard to explain away this loss as an aberration. Be that as it may , as I'd alluded to before. Had this been a postseason game this would've proven to be an embarrassing loss for a team that's so much has been said about as being the class of the NFC and more likely than not their represenative in the Superbowl. That mightn't sit too well with the likes of the Packers , Seahawks and Giants at present. As they themselves will probably feel that the Cowboys have moved back closer to the pack after this loss.
As for Simpson adorned in her Romo jersey sitting up in a luxury suite at Texas Stadium. One has to wonder if indeed she'll prove to be a jinx or lucky rabbit's foot for Romo in his quest for a Superbowl ring ? Afterall she's had problems figuring out whether or not tuna was chicken or infact whether or not it was from the sea. For Romo his luck , zeal and guile with women can't be questioned . Form Carrie Underwood to Jessica Simpson, I'd say that he'd better keep his head in the game and his eyes on the prize. Having a trophy on your arm by way of a nublile young female is one thing. But having that Superbowl ring on your finger and he should be able to pull all the women he can muster.
If there's milk and honey flowing from Simpson's ample assets then I too would want to have a taste of them !
Need one say anymore about Simpson's real assets ?
But then again I could be wrong because have you seen how Simpson looks as of late ?

As much as one can lament the problems that the NFL seems to be having with the behavior of its players. And the ongoing relationship between the Players' Union and the hierarchy of the NFL. I for one am totally disgusted with what I read concerning former player, coach and advocate of the retired players, Mike Ditka. In case you're wondering what I'm indeed talking about let me fill you in on what Ditka is alleged to have done.
Former Vikings' great Jim Marshall addresses the press while promoting one Ditka's causes Gridiron Great Assistance Fund. picture courtesy of kansascitystar.com/sports/........
Ditka with his impassioned pleas on the behalf of the retired players has made it clear that he wasn't entirely satisfied with the way that the Players' Union and NFL went about assigning benefits and money to the players who were in need of it. He'd even addresses Congress on this very subject and if anything found a great many supporters within the legislature that took his emotive comments to heart. Say nothing of which he embarrassed the hell out of Players' representative and chief negotiator Gene Upshaw. And for Upshaw with all his pride never spoke ill of an enemy that he didn't want to kick their as* first before berating them.
Ditka is seen here when he addressed Congress when urged them to take action concerning the needs of the retired players of the NFL. picture courtesy of icc/in.net/congress............
So it should come as no surprise to find out that the trust set up by Ditka has been less than benevolent with its philanthropical efforts. His Hall Of Fame Assistance Trust in the three years of its existence has given away less than $ 57, 000 . But in that time has raised over $1,300,000 and paid out well over $600,000 in appearance and ancilliary fees to players come and speak at functions organized by the trust. It'd also organized several charity golf tournaments in order to raise money for the trust that would be later assigned and paid out to needy retired players as necessary. As to where and how that money has been spent is anyone's guess at this moment in time.
Ditka seen here addressing the press on his charity Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund. picture courtesy of ap/photo/Bill Longmuir.....
Say what you will about Ditka as an ebullient coach and character , he's a long way from his day where as an icon in Chicago he could do no wrong. But what he's alleged to have done with some of the funds within the charity he started to benefit others is serious and very troubling. Some of those funds were transferred to another charity set up named Misricordia . Which is allegedly Catholic home for people with developmental disabilities. Furthermore money was also transferred to another charity set up titled Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund. This however was a charity set up in order to assist players supposedly in Green Bay , Wisconsin area. Whilst I wouldn't question the altruistic beginnings of Ditka's nature and beneevolence to former players. I would question the need to be transferring money around like this and with very little of it going to meet the needs of the players he allegedly said he intended to help.
Questions no doubt have been raised and still need to be asked not only of Ditka and the staff. But also of the players who've benefitted and have yet to have benefitted from the charity's largesse. It's very troubling when something like this happens and and those in charge can't even give you a satisfactory answer as to why more hasn't been done by them in this endeavor. Now comes even more troubling news that the Hall Of Fame Assistance Trust will be folded up and its operations will cease to continue . It's painstakingly obvious while Ditka on first appearance mightn't have done anything wrong , it does leave somewhat of a bitter taste in one's mouth when we either hear or read about something like this. And while there's no proof of any wrongdoing on anyone's path as of now. One can't help but wonder what'll happen when and if we're ever able to view the trust's books to see how their funds were spent. And if in any case, any of the players were ever really assisted by them in any major way. It says very little of the organization that in the three years of its existence it only paid out $57,000 to players. What went wrong and where did they go wrong ? And how can Ditka and the people who were behind all of this be so utterly irresponsible on such a vast magnitude ?
It says much about our society we live in today when people are willing to say and do things . But when they fail to live up to a commitment just fold up shop and go away to let things die down, or either hide behind the cloak of not being willing to disclose anything upfront once and for all. And as nuch as one might admire Ditka and his ebullient demeanor . I can't help but wonder that after this fiasco that the shine isn't beginning to lose its luster on Ditka ? Let me know what you think of this by posting a comment. I'd really like to read your comments on this.
More of Leeann Tweeden and less of 'em wouldn't you say ?
