This  time   it's   not  for   all  the  marbles   but   it   might   as   well  be.   It'd  appear  that   upstart    MMA  promoter    Mark Cuban    and  billionaire   owner    of  the  Dallas Mavericks   has      filed    a  lawsuit   in  the  US  District  Court   in Dallas ,   Texas  against   Zuffa  LLC   the  parent   company  of    UFC.

The   implementation   of  the  federal     suit  surrounds  the   validity  of the    contract   of   onetime   fighter   Randy  Couture.    Couture   is   allegedly     still    under  contract   with   UFC.   Albeit  that   Couture  has   stated  that   he'd    retired    from   UFC  and   would   seek  not  to   fight  for  the   foreseeable   future.       However     there  is    now    a   chance    that    Couture   would   like   to   return     to the   ring    and   it's    said    that a    big  money   fight  is  being   arranged  where    he'd    meet     Fedor  Emialanenko.    The  ramifications  of  this   suit   isn't  lost  on   Zuffa  and   UFC   ,  who   contend   that   Couture    apart   from    his    contract  of  employment     also    has    a   none   compete    clause    within   the  contract.   Something    that   Couture   maintains   was   never  part   of the   contract    signed .

The    suit   was   bought   by    Cuban's    cable    provider    entity    HD  Net   that's now    promoting   its  own   presence  as   a  promoter   of   mixed  martial  arts   bouts.    Though    HD  Net's  presence    isn't  in  a   large     number  of  homes    across  North   America .  It  could be  said   that   the  exposure    gleaned   from    its    fledgling    concern   as  a  promoter    could   provide   it   with  the  added    exposure    it  needs  if it's able   to    find  a  niche    within  the   already   burgeoning  market.     Mixed Martial   Arts    is    now    dominated    by   two   large    entities  at  present.      And  it's    become   a  multi   billion   dollar   concern    by    way  of  revenues  and  merchandizing  alone.   Say    nothing  of  which  their   PPV   events      are   garnering    an   ever  larger    audience   with   each    promotion    shown    via    cable  or   satellite.

It's appear  that   neither  party   is  prepared  to   give   way   with  regard  to this  measure .     And  for  Zuffa   and  UFC  this    may  well   dictate   the   fortunes   of  the  company  and    its  existence .  As   it  can    be  deemed   that    should   Cuban  prevail   in  this     lawsuit        it    could   well  lead   the   way  for      other    disatisfied    fighters   within   the  UFC's  stable  to   review    their   situtation  within    its   orgainzation.   It's    long been     known  that   UFC  has  sought  to   arrange   what'd   deem   to  be   the    biggest    money    bout   the   genre    has   seen      since  its    inception.   Emialanenko     has     let   it  be    know   that   he  was   willing   to   fight    Couture    at   anytime  and   anywhere    in the  world.

Before      this    event    can    even     take    place   it'd  seem  the  bearings  of  the   outcome   will    first  have  to  be   adjudicated    within  the   US legal       system.  That's   something   we're      now  beginning   to  see     happen  all   too  often.  Instead    of  the  situation   being    dealt  with    by  all  the  parties   concerned    in   an  amicable   manner   outside  the   confines   of  a  courtroom.  

If it's  one  thing   that   we're    clear   with  concerning     Cuban   is  that   he   doesn't  suffer    fools   gladly  and   he  wouldn't  be     going     ahead   with this suit.  If he   didn't  feel  that   it  was   warranted and     there   was    justification   for    his  action.    At  the   heart  of  it  when    all   said  and   done   is   Couture's  right  to    practice    his    profession  as  he   sees    fit    without   being   entangled   by   contractual    obligations.  Obligations    that   were   placed    in  order   to   deny   him   is     rights   as  a  performer    but  at the  same   time   gives   UFC  and   its   parent   to  dictate   their    own    wishes   and   above   all    ensures    their  overall    financial   benefit.

I don't  know  if the   whole  world   may   have    been   red   faced  at the   time  seeing  one  time   heavyweight   champion  of the  world    being   beaten  by  then  unkown   challenger   Buster   Douglas.     But to  my  mind    though    not  necessarily   surprising.     It  was  for  me  the  beginning  of  the   end   for  the  sport of   boxing  .   And     justifiably   so   as   it's      become       a    poor   man's   farce    that's   going   the   way of  pteradactyl   and  other   creatures of  the  prehistoric  age.

What   took   place   in  the  Tokyo  Dome   in   Japan   was a  wake   up  call   for  the   sport   that   still   to  this   day     hasn't  fully  in  sunk    with the  numerous   promoters    or   the  various   governing   bodies   of  the   sport  internationally.  It  wasn't   so    much  that  Tyson  lost  the   fight  but  the  way  it   happened  and what   has   transpired   since then   in  the  world of   boxing.

Eighteen  years  ago  almost  to the  day ,  a  fight  that   ended   in  controversy  and  sparked    the  spiralling   downfall  of Tyson's   career   still   gets   looked   upon for  a  number  of things.  One  might  ask   had  Tyson   not  been   embarrassed  on the  night   by  the  so  called   journeyman   boxer.   What  would've    happened   to the  sport   ?  And   better   yet    would  Tyson   have  ended  up   going   through    of    the   travails   that've    gone   on  his   career    since  that infamous   night  ?  One  thing   for    sure    is that   we  can   all  speculate   as  to  what  might  have   been.      What   we   now   know   to be  fact  is  not  open  to   question  at  all.    The  unfortunate thing   for Tyson  was  that  he  didn't  possess the   intelligence to    figure  out    what was  going   on.

A  heavily  favored    Tyson    though    on the   brink   of  greatness   had  become   arrogant  and    ill   disciplined  .   And   those   who   were   said to be  in   control   of  his  career    weren't  necessarily       concerned  with  his   behavior.  If  nothing else   he was   seen   as   their meal  ticket     to  even   bigger   riches   not  just   in  terms  of   financial  gain  but    notoriety  also.  Boxing  promoter  Don   King   who's    been   in  the   sport   than   longer  than   many  of  us   would  care  to  remember    needed   Tyson    about  as much  as   hyena  craved the  dead   carcass  of animal  that'd  been   preyed   upon.  Once   he'd   fed   of  Tyson's   own   carcass   it  was   plain  to  see that he'd   be  dumped   by   the  wayside  as  he'd   done   to  previous    fighters  that  he not   only  managed but promoted also.

For  Douglas  his    reign   as the  Heavyweight Champion  was   short  lived  as  he  lost  the  title  in  his   first  defence  to  then  challenger   Evander  Holyfield.  Holyfield   would    then   go   on  to   have     two    epic   fights   with    Tyson  himself.  One   of  which   would  go    down  in  infamy  .

 Tyson    has   become   a  forelorn    figure   and   the   notoriety  he  once   had ,  has  since  been   replaced   by  the  fact  that he's   now  seens  as  an   object   of  ridicule  and  not   much    more.   A  rape conviction   ,  drug  use  , marriage ,  divorce   ,  children  in  wedlock and   out  of  wedlock   and   several   other   run  ins   with  the  law    has  done   much   to   sully  his   reputation.    But   it  has   never  been   from the  fact  that  a  man    who    many  thought  would   lift the  sport     to the   highs   it   once    possessed   in  the   late   80's  basically   dragged   the  sport   down  into  the  gutter.    Though it  wasn't  merely  by   his    own  actions   it  can   be  said  that    if he'd    possessed    just   a   modicum   of   intelligence  things     within  the    sport   might've been   different.   Promoter  Don  King  may  have   been   the  architect  and  instigator   in  this  tragedy  but   Tyson    played   his      role    with   such    aplomb   that he  could've   garnered   an  Oscar  with  his    portrayal.

Don   King   still  rules  the  roost      in  the   sport   but   his  power   as   deemed   is   no   longer   what it  once   was.  The   array  of  talent   that sits   atop   of  the   heavyweight    scene  has  never  been   so    futile   or   unproductive.    It  could  be   said  that  most   fans   of  the  sport   aren't   in   the  slightest   bit   interested   in   who   holds    any     of  the  various  versions  of the   heavyweight  title  as it  now stands.   The  talent   of those   particular  fighters     isn't  awe    inspiring   and     the   hope  that  we   can  one   day   say  that  there'll  be  an   undisputed    heavyweight   champion  seems  to be  a  long  way  off.   It'd  appear  that  none  of the   title  holders   in  question     has the    courage  to   face   each  other head on  and  legitimize   themselves   as  a  true  champion.  It'd  appear  that   posturing  is the  norm   within  the  sport now  and  possessing  a  belt that  no  longer  means  anything   to   a  once  adoring   public.

The  sad  thing   now   is  the   sport  of   boxing   and   in  particular  the   heavyweight scene   could  do   with  someone   like   Mike  Tyson  to  breathe  life  back   into   the  sport   that  has   become   so   moribund.    If  nothing   else  we  know  that  the action   therein   would be  lievely   if    nothing   else.   And   a  little    action   during  a  heavyweight  bout is  better   than   no  action    at  all.

This   time  of  the  year   it  becomes   very    moribund   when  it   comes  to the  sports   panacea.    Well  the  NFL  season  is   over  and    the  as  always   post   Superbowl   fervor    begins   to  die   down.    The   Giants  have   been  anointed  as champions  .  A  thoroughly   deserving   win  on   their  part.

The  Pro  Bowl  and  its    relevance  is   lost   on  me.  As    many  of  the  league's  premiere   players    tend   not  to   show   up    for  the  game.  Albeit  that  many  of  the   fans  come   out  to  see  their    idols.   But   I    suppose  when  it's  being  held   in Hawaii   it's  way   too   much    to  ask   these  players   to   attend.    Many   of  them   mind    you   are   only  all  too   aware  as  to the  significance   of  being    invited  to  Pro   Bowl ,  let   alone   being   on their   respective   conference's   roster.   In  many   cases  even   if  they   don't  play   but  have  been  invited.  They're  still  paid   and   this   in   many cases  is    based    upon  incentives  met.  And    when   considered    that   in  some   cases   this  can   be  as   much    as  between  $100,000   to   $750,000   in  incentives     one   can  well  understand  why  they   like  to   make   the   roster  even  if  they choose  not  to attend  to  play  in   the   game  itself.    The   league   doesn't  seem  to  peturbed   by     this   fact  .  As  it'd  appear  that  they're  only  interested    in the    financial   aspects  and    what   can   be   gleaned   from  what  has  become    now  a  meaningless  game  at  the  end  of  the  season.

Spring   Training  is    just  around   the  corner   with  regard  to  major  league  baseball.  But the  furore  seems   to  be   the  situation    concerning    former  Cy  Young winner  Roger  Clemens  and  the  alleged  use of  steroids  and  human  growth  hormones.     This  has  beome  a    never   ending   saga   that   just  won't  go   away.  Government  interferrence  in  an   issue   that  the  hierarchy   of  baseball   seems   powerless    in  dealing   with.    The   Mitchell  inquiry    and   what   it  was   ,  has  been  perceived  as   a  witch  hunt.     Its   become    baseball's   answer  to   the  Spanish    Inquisition   but  without   the   extreme  acts   of    torture.    Senator   Georger   Mitchell   at   comissioner  Bud  Selig's    request  was  the  league's   designated    grand  inquisitor Torqemada.

Clemens   for   all   his   denials   of  the  allegations   made    against   him   by  former   personal  trainer   Brian  McNamee.   It'd   appear that  he's   prepared   to meet  the  members  of   Congress.  In  this   case   the  members  of  House  Oversight  Committee   on  Government  Reform.     The   members   themselves   seem   to   love  the  posturing  and   face    time   gleaned   from     being  on  the   nation's   broadcast   networks.    The  journalists   themselves   are    only  too   willing    to    be     in   the    vicinity   to    report    on  anything   that's   said  by  the  parties   involved.   Clemens  and  former   teammate  Andy Pettite  have  already appeared   infront  of  the  members  and  answered  the  questions   asked  of  them.  As  too has    former   New   York  Yankees'  player  Chuck  Knoblauch.      Pior   to   his   attending     he'd   been    subpoena'd   and  many    were   unsure  as  to   whether   or   not  he'd   attend. 

Knoblauch    showed   up   with   his      young  son  in   tow  and  the  vagaries  of  the  evidence  given   aren't    known.  But  one   can   assume    that  having   been   amongst those   named in   the  Mitchell  Report   .    He  may have   acquitted  himself  well   when   asked    about      his  own   use   and    knowledge  as  to whether   or   not  any   others  amongst  his   peers   had  used either  of   the  substances   mentioned in   the  report.    Continously   I  ask  myself    how  is    it that  the  hierarchy   within   the  sport,  the owners     and    the   members   of  the players'   union   have  been   so    irresponsible    ?  The  only   answer   I  can  come   up   with   is   greed,  avarice,   call  it  what   you   will.   All  parties    have   profited   from  the  subterfuge.      The   fans   may   well  be  indifferent  to  this  all.  As   they're  probably   of  the    opinion     that  it's  of   no   concern  to  them.       Whilst   this    has   been   going   on  the   one    man    that's  been   in  the   midst  of  this    all     is    now   awating    his   own   trial     on  perjury. 

The  soap  opera    that   is  Barry    Bonds  has  for   the  moment   taken  a  back   seat   to  the  accusations   now  facing    Clemens.  Whereas  Bonds  was    placed   front and  center  as   the  poster  child   for  steroid   use.   It's   been   Clemens   now   who   faces    the  onslaught.   This   whole   saga   is   one     of  baseball's   own   making.    And   the   failure  of  the   inaction   of  its  hierarchy,  owners  and  players  alike  makes  you   feel   that  the   game    can't   withstand  the pressure   it    faces   without  the  leadership   of   someone   who's    more  attuned  with   what   needs  to  be  done.    Selig's  leadership   at best    has   been   mediocre   and  haphazard.   He  often    tell  us   that  the  health     of  the  game  is     as   good as   its   ever   been.      The   financial    state   of the game  may  well  bare  this    out.   But      yet   many   of the   small    market   teams   face  some   serious    financial    problems.    But  that is   always   glossed  over    with  artificial   massaging    of    figures  and   the  books     of  the various   franchises   that   face   these  problems.

The  NBA   is   now  in  full    swing  and    the  Boston   Celtics   are   still    the dominant  presence  in the  Eastern Conference.     With  the  acquisitions   of   perennial  All   Stars   Ray   Allen  and  Kevin  Garnett.     The    Celtics   are  now  the  darlings   of  the  NBA .   Home   games    are  now    sold    out   and    the  place   to  be   seen   if    you're   avid   New  England   area   sports  fan,    the  New  Englans  Patriots     nothwithstanding.   With  the   triumvirate   of  Allen, Garnett  and  Paul Pierce    in   full    swing    the  Celtics   are    playing   like    a   team   that  wants    to   be   back   at   the    pinnacle     of   where   it   once   stood   reigning   over  the  league  surveying  over   all   within   its    kingdom.

For  all  that they've   achieved   thus   far   it  can   be  said   that  if  they  don't   win   the  championship  this   year.  It   can   be  said     that   it's       been  a  failure.  I   know    that  I've  heard   this   somehere   before  ?  I    know   the  fate     that befell  the   Patriots    one   would    hope   doesn't    happen   to   Celtics   too.  Clearly  this'd    be    too   much     to  bare   for  the  fans  of  sport   within  the  entire   New  England   region.   Twice  in   a  year  ?      

Go    West   young  man   use  to   signify    the  fact  it  was  time   for  one   go   out and  seek    their   fortune.   But   as   of   late   within   the  NBA  it  has  come   signify   something   else.   In   the  past week    we've   seen   trades    involving  players  Pau  Gasol leaving  the Memphis   Grizzlies    to   join   the Los   Angeles   Lakers.    He's   been   welcomed  with   open  arms  and   if  anything   even   the Lakers'   Kobe  Bryant   seems    happy   by   the   change   in  the   fortunes  of   the  franchise.  I  doubt   that  he'd   have    missed   the  departure   of    Kwame   Brown   anyway.    His   presence    oncourt  at  the  Staples  Center   with   his  anemic   contributions   the   team   was  about   as    welcoming  as  a  dose  of  the bubonic  plague.   It  can   be  said  that   if   Brown's   basketball  IQ were   any   lower    there'd   have   to  be   a   newly   defined  term.  As    to  what  that   might  be is  clearly    open   to  question.

The   move   that  was   in  some ways   more   seismic  was  that  of  Shaquille  O'Neal    from    the  Miami   Heat    to   the  Phoenix  Suns    in  exchange   for  Shawn Marion  and   Marcus   Banks.      On   appearance    it   appears  that   the  Heat    got    the  better   end   of   this   deal.    But  one    has   to   remember  that   their  season  thus   far  is  mired    in mediocrity.     The Suns   are  playing   their  usual   up   tempo brand   of   basketball.    How   O'Neal   will assimilate   himself   into   the  Suns'   style    of  playing   is  something   clearly   Suns'   GM Steve  Kerr must've   put   a  great   deal   of  thought   into before   coming  to this  decision.  Suns'   coach   Mike   D'Antoni    clearly    sees  a   role    for  O'Neal   on  the  team.   Albeit    that   he's    not   in  anyway   shown  the    form      that   made   him   a  perennial   All  Star.   Injuries   have   plagued   O'Neal   and    his  apparent unwillingness  to  get   himself    in   shape    prior  to  the   season   makes   one   think   Shaquille   feels  that  he  can    get    by    on   him   intimidating  opponents  .   That    was    once  the   case    but     now    the   younger   players  aren't   afraid.    They're    only    all   too    willing  to     embarrass    the  Big  Aristotle   on  the   court.    His    productivity  has  declined  and  the  feeling   is   that   he    might  not have    enough  left   in the  tank.       

The  Suns'  window   of     opportunity   continues     to   close    ever   so    slowly and  one    could   determine   that     this    may  well    be   a  last  gasp  attempt  by them    of  making  it   to   the NBA  Finals.   Whehter   or   not   O'Neal   can   assist    them   in  achieving   that   goal   willing  something    that   even  the  most   avid   fan   will   watch .  But    with  the  likes  of  Dallas ,  San  Antonio,  the Los  Angeles   and   the  now    rising   Charlotte  Hornets  all   pressing   their  claims.   It's    hard  to   see    how   they   can   overcome   those    teams    with  O'Neal   in   tow.

I've     never   been  an   avid    fan  of  the  NHL    but  it  appears   that  the  game  is now  in   a  period   of  contentment.    Young  stars   Sidney  Crosby  and  Alexander   Ovechkin    are   all    the    rage   across the league.    They're   now  seen as  the   flagbearers   that'll   giude    the  game of  hockey  over  the   next   decade  or  so.   Be  that  as  it may   the     game    still   hasn't   regained     the  presence    it  once  had .    The    Red  Wings   still  are    the     team   that's  ever  present  and  present     Stanley  Cup    holders   the  Dallas   Stars   seem   to be   playing   with  confidence .    Offensive    production  is    up  overall   and   the   game    is   now  at  a  stage     where    the  feeling   is   that   something  positive   can   come    out  of this  all.        Hockey's    lockout    created    a  chasm    between   the  fans  and  the  players.   The   players     felt   that  the  chasm    was    created    by the  league   and    its   owners    by their   intransigence.      

The   intransigence     came    from   both    sides    but  they  were   too    blind   to  see   where   this    was  leading    them.     They   came     to  their  senses   and   the  league  and  its    owners   became    fiscally   responsible.   Something  that  the  federal    government   could   learn    from  the  league.  A     salary  cap   was   agreed   upon.   And  things    in  part    seem    to   be    going  well   at  this     juncture.    But  I don't  know  that  this   can  be    maintained    after    hearing  and  reading   about  the   contract     that's   said    to  have  been   signed    by  the   Washington  Capitols'   Alexander  Ovechkin.    A $124  m     contract  over  thirteen   years  may   seem     outrageous.   But it   only   creates   a   fall  sense   of   certainty  when  one   considers  that  the  league     has   no national  television   contract.    Its  revenues    though  increasing  isn't one   where   one  could   say   that  the likelihood   of   them   being  able   to   garner  national   coverage   with    either     a  major  network or    cable    provider.

The   financial   fortunes  of the  NHL    seems   as  if   it's    being   clouded  by a  sense   of  projections   that  are   based   guidelines    that   in  every  sense    of  the    word    will    be  a  struggle   for   them   to   meet.   Corporate  sponsors    remain   loyal   to  their   product .     But  unless  the league   is able   to  negotiate  some   sort   of     television  contract  with   one     of the   major   networks.    They'll     just   remain     a  mere    byline     in  the    sport's   pages   and   in    the  nation's   conscience.   Their    loyal  and   vociferous   fans'll   remain  passionate  to  the  end.     And    though   that   bodes   well    for  the    sport      that    alone   will   not  be  enough   for   it      to  remain   a  vital  part   of  the  sport  panacea.

I'm   at a  loss  as   to  what  to    do  at  this   time,    as   the   sport's  horizon  appears  bleak.    OK   so  the  Daytona   500  and  the   extravaganza   known  as   the NASCAR   season   begins.    But   the  showcase   of    the  season   starts    what'll   then   just     be   a    long   marathon    of   races.    That  in the   end   portends   to nothing    more  than   the  series    ending   Chase   for The  Sprint  Cup.   Exciting    as  that   sounds      it    didn't    amount   to    much  last   season   as champion  Jimmie  Johnson   dominated    the season   from   the start.  His   championship   win   was  never    in  doubt.   There  was about  as  much  excitement  there  as  having   a  wisdom  tooth   removed.

Scantilly  clad  females  dressed   in  nothing  but  a  thong  wrestling  in  a   vat  of  jello    would  be  welcoming  at this  juncture  .   If  only  to   pass  the  time  away   whilst   viewing  !

Well  it's  over and  done   with.  The   impossible   dream  wasn't to  be .  But  the  ride   was   well   worth  it.  And   even  with the  allegations  of cheating.    Therein  lies    the  rub.       When  you   get    caught   with   your  hands   in the   cookie  jar.  Then    you're   liable   to  be     punished.   Kismet    ,  karma   can   be  a  bit*ch  and   when  it  catches  up  with you  .  You  can  be  made  to  look   the   proverbial   fool.

Belicheck   for  all  of  his   demeanor ,  on and  off    the  field  tact  laid   waste  to   what   can  be  deemed  unnecessary  act  at the   end  of  the  game.  Having  seen  his  team    usurped    by    a  much  more   resilient    band  of  players.   It  can  be  said    that   on the   day     the  Patriots   weren't    equal  to    the  task  asked   of  them.     A    chance   at    immortality    are  the  things  that  legends   are  made  of.      On    Sunday   they   were   proven  to be mere     mortals  on  and  off  the  field.

A   17-14    loss  to  the  New  York   Giants   is  a  bitter   pill   to   swallow.  But   I  for   one   commend  them  on    a  hard    fought and   thrilling   victory.  Hell   if  you're    going  to   want  to   see  the  Lombardi  trophy  won.  Then   why   not  by  a  player  who  many     had  labelled  a  failure.   Eli    Manning  more  than   proved   his    worth  to   his   team   leading    them   by  example.   He  did  everything  that   was  asked of  him  and    more.    And  even   though   he  won   the  game's   MVP  award.  Something  of    a  travesty    considering   the   tone   was  set    by    indominatable  play  of   defensive   player    Justin   Tuck.  As  he   went      so    did   the   Giants.   Every   hit  that   he   had  on   Tom  Brady  reverberrated    around   the   stadium.     Unfortunately  the  Patriots  weren't able   to  reciprocate   in  a  similar   fashion.    You   win  some     you    lose  some  !

For   Giants'  coach   Tom  Coughlan,  the    days    of   self   doubt  and   the   calls   for    his   resignation  or   firing    are  over.   He's   led   his   team  to  the  promised  land. The   Giants'  fans   can   bask     in  their  well  deserved    victory   and   all  the  accolades   that     go  along   with  it.   Eli   now  joins   his   elder   brother   Peyton  as   the  only   NFL  quarterbacking  brothers   to have   led  their   respective  teams to a   victory   in the  Superbowl.     Another   piece   of  history    garnered   by  these   brothers.   Eli's   victory   was  the   one  deemed   improbable   against    the  team   that  many   had  predetermined   was    the   best  that  the  NFL  had  ever   produced.    The   crowning ,  accolade   was   far  too premature  and if  anything  ill  advised.

You  don't   get the  accolades  and   applause  for   finishing   second   not even   when  it's  a  close   ran  thing.    The  Patriots'll   now  be  remembered    as  the  team   that  stumbled   at the  last  obstacle   placed   infront  of it.   And  as  painful  for  me   as  it was  to  watch.   I'm  in   no   way    embarrassed   by  the  team's   defeat.   If  anything   it   was    a  lesson   well   learned   as  it's   better    to   get  the  job  done  and   if   nothing  at  less  make a  serious   attempt  at  achieving  glory.    The   year   long   effort by  the   team   though   outstanding   wasn't   fulfilled.   The  expectations    though   achievable   was   beyond  them.  And  for  the   fans   of  Miami  Dolphins  and   their   geriatric   squad of  former players. This  may  well  be  one   more   reason  for them   to  bask   in  their   glory.   Because  that's  about the  only  thing   of  worth  that  they've   now   got at this    juncture.    Thrity   six   years   on  and  their  opining   about that   unbeaten  season.    Dare  one   say  that   they're   not   overly    concerned   with the  franchise  and   the  season  they've    just  had  ?

For  me  as an   avowed  Pats'  fan    this   was   something   of   bitter   pill  to  swallow   but I'll   recover   from   by   having    a  few bottles   of   Sam  Adams and   perhaps   a  few   more  for   good  measure.

Well   today  is the  day  where    the   whole  of  the  nation  will  either  be  watching    the  Superbowl    with  friends  and   family  in the  confines  of  their  own   home.     Or they    might   choose   to    watch   in  a  local    sports   bar  and   eatery.      There'll    also   be  others  who'll    choose  to  forego  the  event     in   order    to  do   something   else.   And  that  is  their  right  to  do  so.  But  this   has  got  to  be  the  one  time  of  the  year   where  the   country   as   a  whole   becomes    one   big   raucous  cheerleading  squad.    Willing   on the  team   they   supprt  to   a  win.

For  myself   and  a  few   of   my   closest   colleagues    we  thought  it'd  be  only    fitting if  we   were   to   get  something  together   for   some   of  our  local    veterans   who've  returned    from   duty in  Iraq  and  Afghansitan.  In  this   case   it  would  be   to  invite  them   to a  local  eatery along  with  their  families   to  watch  the  game  live.   The  response   has  been   overwhelming.    And  the  positive   feedback  we   got  from   the  venue   in  question   was   more  than  we  could've  bargained  for.    They  be laying   on  much  of  the  food  and  drinks   for  the   men  and  women   in question   'free  of  charge'  .   To    say  that    my    buddies  and  I   are   surprised    is  an    understatement.     But   when  put  into  context  as   to   what  it  is  we're   doing   is  simply leads  to  me  to  believe  that  that    when  it  comes  to  showing     our  appreciation   for    the  men  and   women   of  the  armed  forces.   As  a  nation   its  citizens  are  second  to  none.     That  being  said  the  same   can't   be  said  of the  adminsitration.

Some  of  those      guests  in  attendance   will    be   men  and   women   who've  returned  from  seeing   action    in  both      regions   where  they've  faced   an    undaunted   enemy.    Well   these   returning   vets  are   to   my   mind  real  bonafide  heroes.    There'll  be  some    who've   returned  home    with   some   serious    injuries   not  just   physical    but  mental    one's   too.   Ones    that   can't   be   obscured   from  their   consciousness   .  And    the  physical     pain   and   suffering that   they've  had  to  endure     can    only  seem  a  mere   by product of  their  duty  to  us.       But   knowing  what it  is  that  they've  been   aseked  to    do  and    endure.  To       my   mind   what  it is   that  I'd  set  out     to   do   is   too   small  a  consolation   for     what  they've  lost.

It's    my   sincerest  wish    that  they   can    all   have   fun   today    whilst   enjoying   themselves  alongside  their     families     and  a  few   of  us   who'll    no  doubt    show   their  gratitude  and  appreciation.     For  myself   who   has served      in the  military .  I  see    it    in   some   ways  a  fitting     tribute    but   I   only  wish     I  could  do  more  .    My  time   being  what  it   is  and   how   I  work.    On  the  weekends    that's     about  the  only  time    I  can   devote     to  helping   these   vets   out  as  and  when  I  can.       But   more  than    anything   else     I  consider  it  to  be a  privilege    in  doing   so.     Because     the   disdain   I've   witnessed   being   shown   to    some   to    my   mind  has  been   an   insult   and  a  slap       in the  face   to    the   ideals   as   to  what   the  country   states    that it  is  about.

I  can   only wish   that  the   two    teams   facing  each  other today     put  on  a   spectacular   game     that   is   a  feast     of   athletic   achievement  and   entertainment   for   us  all.    Offcourse    there'll   be   a  winner   and   loser   to  day.    But  for      these     particular   guests    on  this   day    in    our     minds    I  hope     that   you'll    view    them   as  winners ?

My affiliations    being  what    they   are   as  an  avowed   Pats'  fan.    If  they   should  lose    then   I  don't   mind   saying  that  on this   day  in  the  accompaniment  of  these    men  and   women   as  a   host   along  with   my  closest   friends.      My  salute'll    go   out to     these   vets   as    much  as  it'll   go  out  to   the  winning  team   of  the   Lombardi trophy.   For     to  me  this     is     what the   day   will   be  about.
