It's one thing to lose and then to lose gracefully as it signifies conduct that's becoming of the participants. Especially for the victor but even more so for the loser. Well with that being said the inexplicable loss today by the Americans to a strong , but determined and discipline European team leaves many in a quandry as to explain what went so horribly wrong.
A celebratory pose by some of the European players......no doubt a great deal of drinking will be going on in light of the victory.

The US's loss to Europe 18 1/2 to 91/2 represents one of the largest margins determining the event in several years. Europe completely outplayed the Americans in the days' singles competition. But what was even more perplexing to those watching was the demeanor of many of the Americans who accepted and surrendered to their fate so willingly. The only player who seemed determined, and played with a great deal of drive was Tiger Woods, himself who accounted for over more than half of the US's total in the competition. Where this loss leaves us on the sporting landscape remains to be seen . For many it was all too painful to watch as the US surrendered the white flag so ignominiously , while the Europeans were all smiles and congratulating one another on their imposing victory. Ian Woosnam the captain of the European squad was complimentary of his counterpart and the toughness that Lehman's team had shown. But how many of you would you necessarily believe that as the margin of victory says more about the lack of conviction on the path of the Americans.
Of the 12 points that were on offer at the end of Saturday's play when Europe lead by 10-6 , the Americans won only 3 1/2 leaving the home team to claim the remaining 8 1/2 points to secure the victory. Imposing as the victory was, it says a lot more about how the Europeans wanted to win than, the way in which the Americans played .
Take from it what you will , but America's once dominance of the sporting scene is no longer there in many of the high profiled sports as either the rest of the world has either caught up with us or surpassed us as the leaders in certain disciplines.
tophatal.....
