Yes   I'll   admit  I'm   a   tv    junky     especially  when  it     comes   to   good  television   and    the  females    appearing  have  good  strong  roles.   It    goes  without  saying   that   the   majority  of   roles   on  television  are  written   for  men.    But    the  women   fair  a  great   deal  less   in  this particular  department.   However     this  seems     to  be  changing  with  the  advent   of  more  females  commanding    a  behind  the  scenes  role   in  developing  and  writing  serialized   televsion   be  it     comedy  or  drama. 

Ellen  Pompeo  who  portrays   the  role  of  Meredith  Grey   on  ABC's  hit  drama  Grey's   Anataomy.  In  it  she  plays  a  young  surgical  intern  at  a  Seattle   teaching  hospital  through  whose  eyes   we   see   the  trials  and  tribulations  of  the  interns  at  work.

    Katherine  Heigl   is  also   one  of  the stars  on   the  drama    Grey's  Anatomy   alongside   Ellen  Pompeo.    She  also  plays  an   intern  who    goes  by  the  name   of  Isabel   "Izzie"    Stevens.    Her  road   to  the   Seattle  Grace  teaching    hospital  is  not  without   controversy    as  she     posed  in  some  skimpy   lingerie  to  pay her   way  through    university.  Nice   work    for  the  right   girl   as  long  she  keeps  her   innocence  and   integrity.  

     Mariska   Hargitay  plays    hard  hitting  detective    Olivia  Benson  on     NBC's    award  winning  drama   Law  &  Oder  SVU.  Her    tenureship    on  the  show  has  brought her  widespread   praise  and  critical  acclaim  on   the  hit  drama   for   its  gritty  portrayal   of  detective  work    amongst   the  victims    of   sexual  crimes.   Hargitay   is  the  daughter     of  the  late    actress  Jayne  Mansfield  and  former  body  builder   Micky  Hargitay.

   Jill  Hennessy     plays  Medical   Examiner   Jordan   Cavanaugh  on  NBC's   crime  drama    Crossing  Jordan.  Her    role    of   Dr  Jordan    Cavanaugh  was  developed   with   her  in mind   by  series   creator    Tim  Kring.   Her   earnest  portrayal    of  an  examiner   has  won  her  widespread     praise   and  a  new  legion  of  fans  since  she  was  at  one  time  an  original   member   of  the     ensemble  cast   of crime  drama    Law  &  Order,   playing    the   role   of   DA   Jill  Kincaid.

Marg  Helgenberger    in  her  role   as     Catherine  Willowes  on    tv's   highest   rated  and  most  watched  drama    CSI      is  garnering her    widespread   praise  and    an  Emmy   nomination  on  at  least  two  occassions.  Her  role  as   a   crime  scene  investigator    has    her   in  several  different    scenarios   in  the   procedural  drama.     Added    to  this   fact   is  that  her   portrayal  calls  upon  her  to  play  a  strong  will  independently  minded  single  mother   which  adds   an  extra   dimension  and  layer     to  her  role. 

Emily  Procter's portrayal  of  Calleigh Duquesne   on  CSI    Miami   has   garnered  a  great  deal    of  praise   for   the  former   weather    girl  on   local  South  Florida  television.    She  plays   a  ballistics   expert   and     crime  scene  investigator   on  the  top  rated    show.    Her   portrayal   has  her  being  the  intlellectual   equal  of  her  male  counterparts   and    she     exudes   a  great  deal  of  sexuality   and  earnest   in  her  role.   Not  to  mention  she  packs  a  weapon  and  gets  to  shoot  it   too  !     

Question  my  choices  if  you  will  but  these   female     portrayals  are  well  worth   the    viewing   no  matter    what  your  tastes   might  be.
