    BRAD LIDGE COMES TO PHILADELPHIA

Thursday, November 8, 2007, 06:10 AM EST [Philadelphia Phillies]

It's been quiet on the Philadelphonic front. Why? There's plenty of better writers talking about the Eagles struggles. And I've been doing some interviews that I'll start sneaking out soon.

Plus Boston has been winning everything. The World Series. The Patriots. Heck even the New England Revolution is doing well in Major League Soccer.

Now was as good as anytime to take a little break.

Well last night the Phils swung a deal for closer Brad Lidge.

Closer Brad Lidge had a 3.36 ERA last season.

On the surface, this seems good for Philly, here's our closer, a former all star with some great stuff.

I'm not so worried about moving Michael Bourn, who's got great speed or Geoff Geary, who has decent stuff. It's the "throw in" Mike Costanzo.

That kid has some mechanics that are suspect, but if he can work that out? He could really make some noise. I hate to give him up when Lidge can be a free agent in the next off season.

Besides Houston is especilaly great at grabbing "throw ins" remember Houston swung a deal with Boston and got a youngster. Named Jeff Bagwell. Who ended up being an all star and enormous success.

However what's done is done. We at Philadelphonic can only hope that Lidge's focus is more "2005" and less "2007", and that Brett Myers can return as a starter and not be the headcase he can be at times.

But hey, a little 9th inning help never hurts.

    Welcome to Philly, Brad.
