Eric Wynalda: Expert or Needs Expert Advice?

Friday, June 30, 2006, 10:02 PM EST [General]

Newsday has written a story about Eric Wynalda and his World Cup analysis. Check it out here. It's pretty much a fluff piece -- i.e. no consenting opinions, and everyone interviewed in the article is going to say positive things about the former MLS and US national team player. What are your thoughts about Wynalda's work on World Cup Live?

ESPN Responds to Criticism of World Cup Coverage

Thursday, June 29, 2006, 08:08 PM EST [General]

The criticism surrounding ABC/ESPN's coverage of the World Cup is building. ESPN has publicly responded to the complaints. Meanwhile, I interviewed Seamus Malin tonight and he shared his views on the commentating thus far. The response from ESPN can be found on my blog at http://eplleague.blogspot.com. The interview with Seamus Malin, meanwhile, will be released this Sunday night on the EPL Talk Podcast, the only soccer interview show on the Internet. You can subscribe to it via iTunes or from the EPL Talk Podcast page at http://epltalk.libsyn.com. If you can't wait until Sunday, you can get more insight into the interview by reading my blog.

Bad Luck Strikes Michael Owen Again

Tuesday, June 20, 2006, 06:10 PM EST [General]

As the guys at nufc.com said, what have we done to deserve this? Meanwhile, if the English team keeps defending like this, they're not going to go very far. Both goals were as awful as the two English goals were brilliant. But without Owen, if Rooney can't go all 90, Sven will have to rely on Gerrard and Lampard to score the goals. So why exactly was Theo Walcott brought to Germany if Sven would rather go with 5 midfielders than bring the kid on. And I'm still not tremendously sold on Peter Crouch... Speaking of Crouch, how about the odd couple next year at Liverpool of 6'7" Crouch and five-foot-nothing Craig Bellamy? Sky Sports said it could happen this week. So when is Newcastle going to bring in some players? Lots of talent coming into the Premiership so far but none of it the St. James'. It's seriously annoying... Above post was written by Bruce Gottesman, a Newcastle United supporter who lives in Margate, Florida.

Will America Ever Catch World Cup Fever?

Sunday, June 18, 2006, 07:43 PM EST [General]

Here we go again. It's another World Cup in America, but a lot of the mainstream media don't seem to get it. Here's another example: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/mplayer/m/3894 It's like clockwork. Every four years, reporters come out from the woodwork and blast soccer for stupid, stereotypical reasons. However, this time, we have technology to help us (so we can all stick together) and ignore ignorant people such as the one above from my local TV station in Palm Beach County, Florida.
