For some time the Columbus Blue Jackets were in the market depth at center, particularly on their checking lines after losing Manny Malholtra to free agency this week.
Today GM Scott Howson moved decisively to address this situation by signing former Anaheim Ducks and Chicago Blackhawks center Samuel Pahlsson to a three-year, $7.95 millon contract worth $2.65 million against their cap.
Pahlsson is not only an affordable signing but also a notable defensive center. A former Selke trophy nominee, Pahlsson excels at killing penalties and winning faceoffs and should be considered an upgrade over Malholtra.
