If your favorite NHL team get beaten by five or more goals in a game, take heart; it could be a lot worse.
Last week in a qualifying tournament for the 2010 Winter Olympics the Slovakian Women's hockey teams defeated the Bulgarian Women's team 82-0.
That's not a typo. The final score really was Slovakia 82, Bulgaria 0, with the Slovakians outshooting the Bulgarians 139-0.
As The Sporting News' Eric McErlain points out, that's not the most lopsided victory ever record in women's hockey history, as South Korea crushed Thailand 92-0 back in a 1998 tournament.
If there are times when a "mercy rule" should be in place, these two games are prime examples.
Check out the carnage here.
I'll say this: the loss will either crush the spirit of Bulgarian women's hockey or it'll inspire them to work harder to improve. I'm guessing it'll be the latter.
