The Manny deal is one that will be questioned a lot be people as the year progresses. The deal was a good one for the Red Sox. Manny's behavior was at a point where it was distracting the team away from baseball. His comments about the Red Sox on ESPN deportes were childish and unnecesary. His comments made it quite clear that he was unhappy in Boston and that he wanted to leave.

Him leaving the team was a huge improvement that will definitally help the team for the remainder of this year and future years. In exchange, the Red Sox aquired Jason Bay from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

In the deal:

Pittsburgh aquired Craig Hansen, Brandon Moss, Andy LaRoche and Bryan Morris

Boston aquired Jason Bay

Los Angeles aquired Manny Ramirez

He will be a good replacement for Manny in left field. Manny was hitting near .300 with 20 home runs and 68 RBI's at the time of the deal. Jason Bay was hitting .282 with 22 home runs and 64 RBI's. Their power numbers are almost the same, and Jason Bay will improve being around the great hitters in the Boston lineup. How the Sox do this year will be interesting, as well as seeing how Manny does in LA.

It will also be intereseting to see how Bay reacts to being in Boston. Boston has many more fans and much bigger crowds than Pittsburgh, so we'll have to see how he reacts to the pressure and the hype.

In the deal, the Sox also gave up Craig Hansen and Brandon Moss. Neither of them really played that much, and I don't think that losing them will impact the team that much. I think that we could have gotton a little more in exchange for all this, but I'm happy nonetheless.

The Red Sox scored big by gaining Jason Bay, a decent power hitting outfielder in exchange for Brandon Moss and Craig Hansen. In this three way deal, Pittsburgh scored huge by gaining some good young players, including Brandon Moss and Craig Hansen from the Sox. They also aquired Andy LaRoche from the Dodgers. I personally think that these gains will improve the Pirates, beause many of the players are young and have many years to come in the majors.

As a Sox fan, i'm happy we got rid of ramirez, and i think jason Bay will be a fine player to replace him.
