This is going to be a hard question to answer, as many great second basemen litter the majors. The best ones I'd have to say are Ian Kinsler, Dustin Pedroia, and Chase Utley.
Ian Kinsler leads the Majors in average, hitting .318 with the Texas Rangers. He is fourth in home runs among second basemen, with 14, and fourth in RBI's, with 62. He is clearly a good hitter for a second baseman, and is one of the best second baseman. However, he leads second baseman with 18 errors, and a .972 fielding percentage. Overall Ian Kinsler is a good hitter, but is slightly lacking in fielding.
Dustin Pedroia has only 5 errors and a .991 fielding percentage. He is second in average behind Ian Kinsler for second basemen, hitting .317. He is tied for ninth among second basemen for home runs, with nine on the year. He is eighth in RBI's, with 48. Overall, Pedroia is one of the best fielders in baseball, if not the best. His power numbers are not that amazing, but his .317 average is one to be proud of.
Chase Utley is having a great year offensively. His 28 homeruns and 77 RBI's both lead major league second basemen. His .292 average is pretty good, and he is one of the best power hittig second basemen, at least for this year. As a fielder, he has 10 errors in 109 games, leading to a .983 fielding percentage. Overall, he leads second basemen in home runs and RBI's, so he is a great hitter, and a decent fielder.
Overall, the best fielding second baseman in my opinion is Dustin Pedroia. The best hitting second basemen is Chase Utley. Picking an overall best second baseman will be difficult, but going to have to choose Dustin Pedroia. He is one of the best fielders in the game, and his .317 average shows that he is a good hitter, and he leads second basemen in multi hit games this year.
