I can't think of two things that go more together than beer and sports. And why do we drink six beers during a game and not six cokes? Me, personally, I like a different type of beer for different sports or even teams. For instance, when I'm watching the Astros I like to drink Shiner Bock because it's brewed here in the great state of Texas. When watching the Yankees I'll take a tall cold Coors Light (draft of course). When I watch the Saints, and dependent how they are doing, I'll drink Guiness with a whiskey shooter to help erase the scoreboard from memory.
How bout A-Rod breaking that slump with a walkoff HR? If anyone needed that it was him. I felt bad for the guy because everyone has been critical of him, which is expected since he is the highest paid player in the league, but at the same time everyone goes through a rough spot. I mean when he hit the downward slide he hit it hard. 2-20 in previous plate appearances and he had that stretch of 11 ER in 36 games. I have to admit I even booed a little especially when he blew Mooses shutout against the Tigers in early June. The Yankees are definitly going to have to stepup the pace because I think a crappy AL West will cost them a chance at the Wild Card. It's not '79 all over again when they made the Greatest Comeback in Sports History, but I don't want it to get to that point and then they run out of gas in the playoffs.
The Astros. Wow. I don't know where to go with this one although to say "I told you so." Roger Clemens's return hasn't quite had the spark that the die hard fans had hoped for. With a 38-41 record they are going to have to turn it around huge after the All-Star break to even get a sniff at playoff contention. I think Morgan needs a coming to Jesus meeting here soon or its going to be over. Big Puma(Berkman) is the only quality stick as it stands right now. Biggio is starting to show his age with his recent stretch and Lane well he's Lane. PW has actually been getting good contact lately but he is still air conditioning the stadium with the swing and a miss calls.
Another quick side note there are only 2 teams as it stands right now that have a winning record in the NL in interleague play. Could this be forecasting another AL championship? I think so. There just isn't enough dominant pitching in the NL like in years past hold out the big sticks of the AL.
God Bless the Saints!!! That's all I have to say until training camp really picks up.
