Hey Look it's the Home Run Derby

Monday, July 10, 2006, 02:45 PM EST [MLB]

Is it just me or did the value of the homerun drop as fast as Kid Rocks pants at the Cheetah? Honestly, the spectacle of the homerun has really lost it's luster over the past few years. I can remember being a kid and looking forward to watching the contest (when they'd even show it) but now I could care less about how many 65 mph grapefruits Lance Berkman hits over the fence. Guys do it with such regularity now that it's not even an amazing accomplishment. Hell Dontrelle Willis took Lima Time out of the country with his grand slam.

Maybe I'm onto something but instead of having the power hitters in baseball knocking 550 ft. bombs out of the park we could have pitchers digging in the batters box. That would be great. G. Maddux swinging like a 6 year old just trying to end the embarrasment. Bronson Arroyo doing his best impression of Abreu and winning the tourny with a wapping 6 HRs.

Let's make the Major League Baseball All-Star game the biggest laughing stock in the world. Make it mean something. Homefield advantage. That's a great idea. Lets make the HR derby mean something too. Guy who wins gets his team to the playoffs on a free pass. The All-Star game was created for one reason and one reason only. To get all of the big names in baseball in one stadium at one time playing each other and signing autographs end of story. Before interleague play (which I do think is a great idea) you never got to see the stars of the AL if you lived in an NL only town.

I don't blame Bud Selig....well maybe a little. I blame the idiots around Bud when he's coming up with this garbage for not talking him down off the ledge. Nobody stood up to Bud and said what was wrong with this crap?
