Dodger's New GM: What is he doing?

Sunday, December 18, 2005, 09:05 AM EST [MLB]

I like Baseball and have been a huge Braves and Cubs fan over the years.  I also like to see how teams try to develop and improve in the offseason but the job the new GM is doing for the Dodgers assures me that the Braves will have no competition from the west.  What was he thinking in bringing Nomar to a club where they just signed Rafeal Furcal.  This GM will not last long with "brilliant" moves like that one.  Nomar may have a few good years left, but he is injury prone and his best years are behind him.  Furcal is a very good shortstop who is improving as a hitter each year.  Kent is moving to first base and has always been a very productive hitter.  That leaves 3rd or 2nd base but the Dodgers just signed a new third baseman.  After trading Milton Bradley, a good move, the Dodgers need proven outfielders, not more infielders.  Take a page from the Braves organization and bring up some guys through your system.  It worked with Chipper and Marcus Giles.  You may lose one to free agency like they lost Furcal, but don't sign a "has been" player.
