In this day and age when we have a war in Iraq and hurricane victims pleading their cause in congress, aren't there enough things to keep our elected officials busy enough so that they will stay out of professional sports.
First it was a steroid hearing, then it was a possibility of passing legislation to make baseball clean up its act, and now Arlin Specter wants to get involved in T.O. Just when I think I have seen everything, I have to listen to the esteemed Senator from Pennsylvania tell the Eagles franchise that they were treating T.O. unfairly. Good Grief, Charlie Brown(my new name for the Senator). You would think that the Coach Reid is the equivalent of Lucy pulling the ball away just as Charlie Brown is about to kick it. The fact is, T.O. signed a contract that was agreed upon by the player's organization and the suspension was upheld by an independent arbitrator. Do we really need for members of congress or senators to get involved? Don't we have a budget crisis, a war, and judges to confirm to keep Mr. Spector busy? I get so sick and tired of elected officials somehow thinking they should get involved everytime they don't agree with how things are being managed in sports and the Senator from Penn was making a veiled threat to get involved once again. It's not like the eagles aren't paying T.O. to sit. Of course there is the little matter of them trying to recoup his signing bonus, but really, is that any of Mr. Specter's business.
It was bad enough that our courts had to overturn the rules of golf and allow Casey Martin the use of a golf cart, not that it did any good, and now they want to tell professional teams how to manage their own players. What's next? Force a playoff in college football, or will they convene hearings on why Hootie won't let women play at the Master's. Newsflash Charlie Brown, the women have their own circuit called the LPGA. If it bothers you that much, take a nickel and go see Lucy.
