    CC in NYC

Wednesday, December 10, 2008, 01:59 PM EST [CC Sabathia]

CC Sabathia is on the brink of signing the largest contract for a left handed pitcher in history and I could not be happier as a Yankees fan who incorrectly predicted this signing. His three year opt out option to his contract would guarantee him $69 million if he chooses to leave after three seasons with the team, making it the perfect deal for every party involved (especially since I don't believe he has more the 5 good years left in his arm anyway. Especially with the terrible excuse for pitching coaches the Yankees have). But with all this money gone, say goodbye to Mark Tiexeira and our hopes of a full time replacement at first base. But it fills the most glaring issue for the Yanks and it shows us how good of  a GM Cashman is for making things work when they need to get done. It was a win win for both parties.
In light of this signing, there is no way that Theo and the Sox wont react appropriatly. I predict that they make a legitmate move to sign Teixeira and possibly add another big name free agent to try and counter the Yankees move. Possibly a pat Burell or Bobby Abreu. But, I see Tex signing with the Angles in light of their cutting ties with K-Rod and showing doubts durring the offseason as the the future of Torii Hunter.
I see the Yankees breaking the bank this offseason and pulling in two more major players in this years off season. The first name that comes to mind is Manny Ramirez. Hank has stated openly today that he "wants Ramizer in pinstripes" and in light of the lack of intrest from the rest of league, as well as Manny's outspokenn desires to join the Bombers, I see that happening. And let me clear the air on one issue: I hate Manny. He is a classless superstar who is too good for himself and would not like him to be on the team, but for the sake of his proven prouction, I would without a moments hesitation, sign him and root for him. I would not like him however. Just clearing the air on that issue.
As for pitching, Burnett's agent says he wont sign this week but with the number of teams interested in him, I see him going elsewhere, but Sheets (their new pitching target) loooks promising. Derek Lowe is also an option but his age and salary might come into play.
