An Ohio State Fan's Thoughts on Bo Schembechler's Death....

Friday, November 17, 2006, 12:30 PM EST [NCAA FB]

Although I will always be a dyed in the wool Buckeye fan, after having spent every home Sunday in the 'Shoe during football season from my toddler days until we moved to California in my sophomore year in high school, I was saddened to hear of Bo's death this morning, and equally saddened that he will not be around to see the outcome of tomorrow's rivalry game between Michigan and the OSU.

Though I still rag on people when they say "Go Blue" in my presence and usually immediately retort with a strong "Go Bucs", I can hardly deny the impact that Bo and his mentor, OSU's former great head coach Woody Hayes, had on Big 10 football for many a year. Woody, of course, has been gone for a long time, and I know that U of M fans everywhere will miss Bo as much as OSU fans and alum miss Woody.

Though they were great friends and colleagues at OSU before Bo went to that school up north to coach, they used to "spout fiery rhetoric" before each year's gridiron showdown. I'm sorry, but I don't think Carr and Tressel have anything like what those two used to have--they're far too civilized, if you know what I mean.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Schembechler family today, and may the Lord make sure that "Bo knows" the outcome of the game tomorrow.
