Bonds Finally Says It, and I'm Glad

Sunday, February 19, 2006, 05:39 PM EST [Barry Bonds]

If you didn't hear the latest comments by Barry Bonds, here is link.

In a recent phone interview, Barry Bonds announces his plans to retire after the 2006 season.  He also voiced his frustrations by saying that he is "tired of all the crap going on".

And for once, I agree with Bonds 100%.

The media is already bringing up steroid questions across baseball, and especially in the San Francisco Giants camp.  Picture a back-up catcher for the Giants sitting in the locker room, and the media asks him this question:  "Do you think Barry Bonds is still using steroids?"

Call me crazy, but this is beyond ridiculous.  Unless he tests positive this season, nobody can ever prove that Barry Bonds used steroids.  I know that the speculation on this topic is endless, but there aren't any facts.  Period (yes, I realize the irony of using the actual word "period" to prove my point).

Bonds is one of the greatest players to ever step on the field, yet he will forever be the face attached to the "steroid era".  Which is truly sad considering the fact that Bonds has never tested positive for a banned substance.

I'm glad that Barry Bonds is speaking his mind and expressing his anger.  Consider for one moment that he is innocent.  If you were in his shoes, wouldn't you be angry?

I hope that this season will bring good things for Bonds' legacy, but I have no illusions of this actually happening.

Instead of focusing on this topic, I want to enjoy Bonds' farewell season.  It's our last chance to see the greatest hitter of all time.
