Big Ten Predictions Week 9 (UPDATED)

Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 02:13 PM EST [Boston College]

Well, well, well. Here we are again. It's week 9 and all hell is breaking loose in college football. First I would like to welcome back all the readers and hope you enjoy this week's picks.

Once again, the BCS is causing controversy just like every year since it has been inducted. My main suggestion about the BCS standings would be to remain calm, hope your team wins, and just know that everything will usually turn out the way it should.

Now its time to choose my bonus picks. Surprisingly there are no SEC games this week in my bonus picks. Yeah, I know Georgia and Florida are playing and it will be a good game. Other than that nothing really exciting in the SEC. The real surprise for me though was I have an ACC and two Pac 10 matchups that I am going with as my exciting bonus picks.

    #2 Boston College @ #8 Virginia Tech

#2 Boston College, I have to admit, really snuck up on me. It made me curious as to how they flew under my all knowing radar (jk) so I did some digging. This is what I found. BC's hardest competition so far this year was Wake Forest. Which came at the beginning of the year. Their second hardest test was Georgia Tech. GT is not a bad team but not a good team either. As I look at BC's schedule I see a good team here but not a great team. If Boston College wins against Virginia Tech and end up running the table I see them still finishing the season in second or third based on their SOS.

#8 Virginia Tech, also snuck up on me. Maybe I need to pay some extra attention to the ACC. Then again with Florida State and Miami having the poor teams they have been having lately I bet most people weren't watching the ACC. After checking up on VT I see that they have the same exact schedule as BC. With one HUGE exception. VT took on LSU and lost in a big way. I really thought this was going to be an easy choice between these two teams but now I am not so sure. Once again if VT can beat BC and win out there is no reason they shouldn't be ranked somewhere around #3.

This is a really tough choice but I am going to have to give the nod to Virginia Tech, due to home field advantage.

    #2 Boston College 27 - #8 Virginia Tech 28 Actual Score : #2 BC 14 - #8 VT - 10

Well, I had this one pegged pretty good with it being close. One exception though was BC decideded to start playing with 4:11 left in the game and took this win away from VT.

    #9 USC @ #5 Oregon

#9 USC, do you guys have all your starters back for this game? If not it is going to be a long day on the field for you guys. One thing I can't believe is USC went from #14 to #9 for beating Notre Dame. Wierd. USC has to be one of the most talented yet under-achieving team in CFB today. Yeah, I am still on you guys for losing to Stanford but more than that you just have to many injuries for me to feel good about your team. USC barely beat Nebraska, squeeked by Washington, lost to Stanford, and another close one against Arizona. Your fans should be scared right now but instead they are beating there chests. "Look at us we beat NOTRE DAME!!!" Sorry USC your luck runs out this weekend. Before anyone thinks I hate USC, I don't. I don't hate any teams out there. Facts are facts. You have a shitload of injuries on your team. Also your schedule doesn't get any easier after Oregon. Look for 1 to 2 more losses.

#5 Oregon, one of the best teams in CFB today. They have outstanding wins and keep dominating their opponents with one exception, California. The bad thing about Oregon is that the teams they have beaten aren't exactly stellar. The biggest win they have is Michigan, who at the beginning of the season just isn't the same team as they are now. One huge difference between Oregon and USC is that Oregon has beaten the teams they were supposed to beat. Not only did they beat them, they sent them home crying to their mommas. The only thing that worries me and makes this a tougher descision than it should be is Oregon allows a lot of points to be scored against them.

Another game that I thought would be an easy choice but it isn't so cut and dry between these two teams. I choose Oregon to win in a shootout due to playing at home and USC starters having injuries.

    #9 USC 37 - #5 Oregon 41 Actual Score : #9 USC 17 - #5 Oregon 24

Saw this one coming. Oregon is that good and USC just isn't that good. Short and sweet.

    #18 California @ #7 Arizona State

#18 California, was looking really strong at the beginning of the season but with two straight losses is starting to look quite mediocre. You have to wonder how much these losses are going to mess with the Cal players heads. Personally, I think Cal wants to find redemption in beating an undefeated opponent. California is starting to play a lot like UCLA, as in you never know who is going to show up. This game will boil down to how bad they want it.

#7 Arizona State, has quietly moved into the #7 position in the BCS rankings. This is as high as they go. AZ State you had a nice run but it comes to an end this weekend. Actually it comes to an end this weekend, next weekend and the weekend after that. After AZ State loses this game look for them to lose two more for a total of a three game losing skid. Sorry, guys.

This one is a bit easier of a pick than the first two games. California wins this one nicely.

    #18 California 48 - #7 Arizona State 29 Actual Score : #18 California 20 - ASU - 31

I was expecting Cal to do a lot better bur ASU had other plans. Great game for ASU. They showed the natian that they are for real.

Well, with the bonus picks out of the way. I now turn my attention to the Big Ten games. Just wanted to say congratulations to Ohio State for staying on top at #1. I would also like to say nice job to Michigan for moving up to #19. Finally, I would like to welcome Penn State into the top 25. They are now ranked #24. Before anyone jumps the gun, yes there is a discrepancy in the rankings between the BCS and what FOX puts beside the teams. I assure you that if you go to the top 25 scores page, the numbers match up and thats what I used.

    Ball State @ Illinois

Ball St., you guys have some nice wins under your belt. You almost beat Nebraska which would have been pretty wild. You guys don't have much of a chance at Illinois.

Illinois, tough loss last week at home. Don't worry you will bounce back with an easy win over Ball State. Its not going to be that easy of a win but it will be easy. If it wasn't for the dropped punt you guys probably would have taken down Michigan.

Easy choice here is Illinois at home over Ball State.

    Ball State 13 - Illinois 38 Actual Score : Ball St. 17 - Illinois 28

Nice win for Illinois over a good Ball St. team.

    Indiana @ Wisconsin

Indiana, with a big loss to Michigan State and a close loss to Penn State. Is this the downward spiral everyone was expecting? Hopefully it isn't but things just don't look good for Indiana. The biggest disadvantage for Indiana this weekend will be that they are playing Wisconsin at home. Indiana has proven they can win away games but has also proven they can lose at them.

Wisconsin, after two straight losses picked up a nice easy win over Northern Illinois. Is this where they pick up the pieces and put everything back together? The Badgers are tough as nails when it comes to playing on their home turf. The win over Northern Illinois came at the perfect time and they will be ready for Indiana.

Going with a gut feeling here and also the home team.

    Indiana 18 - Wisconsin 35 Actual Score : Indiana 3 - Wisconsin 33

Huge win for Wisconsin. Indiana welcome to homecoming weekend. I never liked playing against teams on homecoming. They seemed to be so much more focused on winning.

    Michigan State @ Iowa

Michigan State, was completely shut down last week. Their #1 Big Ten offense could only put 3 points on the board. The game was only close because the defense brought some really good pressure to Ohio State's offense. If it wasn't for Michigan State's defense this game would have been a blowout. Fear not Michigan State fans your offense will not get shutdown this weekend. The Spartan offense after being bottled up last week is like a shaken bottle of coke with a Mentos dropped in it. It will explode all over Iowa.

Iowa, it has been pretty much bad news for you guys all year. Wait, I do have good news though. No, its not a lame Geico commercial. This game here will be your last loss of the season. Well, maybe. I will put it this way. It SHOULD be your last loss of the season. Okay, Okay, your second to last loss of the season.

If Michigan State plays to their potential, this game is a no brainer.

    Michigan State 44 - Iowa 14 Actual Score : Michigan St. 27 - Iowa 34

It seems with Michigan St. and Iowa you just never know what your going to get.

    Northwestern @ Purdue

Northwestern, has been quite a surprise team this year. Beating teams it shouldn't but then turning around and losing to teams it shouldn't. Northwestern's up and down schedule is a perfect representation of the CFB season so far. Will they be a spoiler team for Purdue? Nope.

Purdue, had one of the best offenses in the Big Ten. Then it ran head on into Ohio State and Michigan. To have both those teams on your schedule is hard enough. Then to lose them in poor fashion is even worse. It was nice to see that Pudue took those two losses put it behind them and went right back to work beating Iowa with ease. That takes a lot of character to not get down on yourself and comeback with a win. Purdue will put up good numbers on Northwestern.

It won't be a close game but then again it won't be a blowout either. Purdue.

    Northwestern 23 - Purdue 39 Actual Score : Northwestern 17 - Purdue 35

With this pick I don't think I could get much closer without picking the exact score.

    Minnesota @ #19 Michigan

Minnesota, good Lord. I am at a loss for words. No offense, no defense, lost to a Div. II school. I think I am just going to stop right there. I really like Kalbrecht 17 and he doesn't need to be punished more by what I would like to say about Minnesota. His team losing all these games is punishment enough.

#19 Michigan, many people wrote this team off after they lost to App. St. and were destroyed by Oregon. Me, I was just wondering what the hell was going on up there in Michigan. Today, there is no wondering what is going on. Michigan has won all of its games since then. Many of those wins were ugly but a win is a win. This one is going to be ugly also. Not for Michigan though. They might even sit Mike Hart out for this game too. I would at least get him dressed just in case lightning strikes twice.

Michigan blows the doors off Minnesota in this one.

    Minnesota 10 - #19 Michigan 55 Actual Score : Minnesota 10 - #19 Michigan 34

Just another game with a foregone conclusion. Although when Minnesota was up 10 to nothing I was a bit surprised.

    #1 Ohio State @ #24 Penn State

#1 Ohio State, had a bit of a scare against Michigan State. Was it enough of a scare for them to really focus on Penn State? I think so. Everyone talks about Ohio State as being worthless and the big bully that beats up on smaller schools. The players are reminded everyday of the 41-14 loss in the NC game last year. This team is so focused on each individual team that its not possible for them to get ahead of themselves. One thing this year's team has that last year's team didn't have is humility. They know they're not that good. So they look to improve each week. The defense said that they were pissed that they gave up 3 points last week. Its that kind of mentality that will see them through this game at Penn State.

#24 Penn State, looks like an exact copy of Ohio State. A strong solid defense but with an offense that is unsure of itself sometimes. Penn State is really looking forward to this game. They know at home they are one of the strongest and toughest opponents in the country. One other thing on their side is the whole world will be hoping and cheering for them to beat Ohio State. Will it be enough? This year they are 100% in wins at home.

The chances of Ohio State winning at Penn State don't look good. But then again Penn State's chances of winning against Ohio State don't look good either. I have to go with Ohio State in a nailbiter.

    #1 Ohio State 34 - #24 Penn State 33 Actual Score #1 Ohio State 37 - #24 Penn State 17

Hmm, maybe my scores here weren't so far off after all.

Most people are going to say I am just an Ohio State homer but I do try to be as objective as possible. I do love Ohio State but I always wish every Big Ten school does good. This in turn makes us all look good. Well, I now turn this over to the readers and their comments. I enjoy and respond to most comments left.

Sorry this week's wrapups were so short. I had a family emergency that kept me away from th computer. Now I am off to to next weeks predictions. By the way my record is now 21 - 10. Woot, go BIG TEN!

Big Ten Predictions Week 8 (UPDATED)

Tuesday, October 16, 2007, 02:02 PM EST [Rutgers]

Well, the BCS polls came out and the Kleenex company is making a shitload of money. Damn, why didn't I invest some money in them before this. I have never seen so many people crying at one time. My advice for people who don't agree with the BCS standing is make sure your team doesn't lose. Then there is no problem. Personally I am happy to see a Big Ten team in the top spot again. I am escpecially happy its Ohio St. That being said though I don't think they should be. I would put them at #2 and see what happens from there but obviously I am just a blogger that has no true power.

I would like to thank everyone who comes in here and reads/leaves comments. No matter how positive or negative they are.

It seems like doing the bonus picks first is making everyone happy so I have picked 3 games again that I feel will be the most exciting and then move on to my BIG TEN picks.

    #2 South Florida @ Rutgers

#2 South Florida looks like the real deal. I really think they should be at #1 with the big wins over Auburn and West Virginia. With no love from the polls will they come out and smash Rutgers or will SF's clock strike midnight and the glass slipper comes off? I haven't been able to watch a lot of South Florida's games but I have seen some amazing highlights. This team is so fast they move like lighting.

Rutgers Cinderella story from last year is over. They look like they are running in quicksand. They have yet to beat anyone good and the teams they played that are good beat them. Wait, is Maryland actually any good? Let me check. Ok, they are a decent team. Anyways, I just don't see Rutgers matching up very well to South Florida. South Florida just looks better at every position. One thing though, Rutgers is at home. This should help them at least keep the game close.

    #2 South Florida 24 - Rutgers 19 Actual Score : #2 South Florida 27 - Rutgers 30

Wow, this game really lived up to the hype. If you didn't watch this one, you really missed out on a terrific football game. Looks like Rutgers really showed up and just seemed to want it more. The pressure of being #2 was just too much to handle and USF cracked. One thing I was dissappointed in was how many late hits and penalties the Bulls had on them. They looked very unsportsmanlike and juvenile. Well, looks like the computers had them ranked wrong and the humans actually had voted correctly. Wonder how far they will fall in the rankings?

    #18 Auburn @ #5 LSU

#18 Auburn has really jumbled and messed up a lot of things in the SEC. They knocked Florida off their pedestal and continue to surprise and amaze people with the wins they are getting this year. I have to be honest. The SEC is probably the toughest conference out there right now. Don't get a big head though SEC fans. These things come in cycles. You guys are really on an amazing upswing.

#5 LSU with their tragic loss to Kentucky looks for redemption against the Tigers. Personally even with the close loss I have them at #2 or #3. I think the poor play calling at the end of the game killed them. Watching them run it up the middle 4 straight times was like watching a predictable and boring NFL game and the outcome of a loss was the price. LSU won't make that same mistake again. The loss to Kentucky was a wake up call. LSU had been getting by with some close wins and let Kentucky get back into the game. Les Miles looked to be insanely pissed at himself for the play calling. Watch for some razzle dazzle from LSU.

    #18 Auburn 23 - #5 LSU 27 Actual Score : #18 Auburn 24 - #5 LSU 30

This game boiled down to one play. No not that play the other play. Auburn with a 1 point lead and 2 1/2 minutes left decide to squib kick to LSU. WTF. Are you serious? You must be joking right? No, I am not kidding. LSU gets the ball on their 45 yard line with plenty of time on the clock. Oh, did I mention the refs gave LSU a most favorable spot which gave LSU a first down? I didn't? Well, LSU was at least a foot short of a first down but the refs gave them a first down spot. Well, in my final words. LSU did not win this game. Auburn and the refs handed it right to them.

    #14 Florida @ #8 Kentucky

#14 Florida has had 2 straight heart-breaking losses. I just can't see this team losing 3 in a row. I know Kentucky looks good and even beat LSU but I just don't see Florida losing. Florida has a great offense and their defense is also top notch and I think this will be the difference for them. Florida's defense is going to show up big time so watch out Kentucky.

#8 Kentucky this isn't basketball season. What do you guys think your doing? Anyways congratulations on an outstanding survival win over LSU. That being said you won't beat Florida. You have a great offense but your defense is what will cost you this game. You might think your defense is what helped you win against LSU but it wasn't. It was lame NFL style, run up the middle football that allowed you to win. I am not saying this to piss you off. I am just calling it as I see it. If Les Miles went with the plays he was calling earlier in the game instead of "up the gut go nowhere football" LSU would have won.

    #14 Florida 33 - #8 Kentucky 23 Actual Score : #14 Florida 45 - #8 Kentucky 37

Well another exciting game out of the SEC. You guys really know how to put on a good show. This game was just amazing to watch each team run up and down the field. Back and forth it went until the final gun. My only problem is either these offenses are really that awesome or the defenses are average. We know both these teams can shut down other team's offenses but sometimes its like they would rather not. A lot of blown coverages and a lot of missed tackles on both sides. This score really was way higher than I expected but the overall final outcome was exactly like I thought.

Well thats it for the bonus picks. Major props to the SEC and their conference. I think every week since I started the bonus picks you guys have been at least one of them. Now this week with your conference being so strong you are 2 out of 3 for my bonus picks. Congratulations. On to my BIG TEN picks.

    #24 Michigan @ Illinois

#24 Michigan finally looks like the team they should have been at the beginning of the season. Nice job on digging your way back into the top 25. This week will be a true test of wills between 2 very good teams. I know Michigan's offense is up to the task but I am not sure about the defense. The defense did look really good last week but they still seem to allow a lot of points. I am having a hard time choosing between these 2 teams because they are so similar in play styles.

Illinois is a really strong team and they play really well at home. Not sure what happened last week at Iowa but if it wasn't for a penalty that cancelled a touchdown Illinois wins. I think that is going to bug the shit out of the Zookster and he will be looking to take it out on a redeemed Michigan team. Zook likes to run a spread/option offense and being at home that might give the edge to Illinois.  Once again though its really too close to call but its my job to choose someone.

    #24 Michigan 23 - Illinois 24 Actual Score : #24 Michigan 27 - Illinois 17

Illinois started off strong and was looking good all around until a little ways into the 2nd quarter. With everything going wrong for Michigan in more ways than one, a win didn't look possible. Mike Hart sat out this game, Henne was beat up and knocked out of the game for a bit and even Manningham had to go and get checked out in the locker room. Somehow, someway Michigan comes away with another win. I watched the whole game and just saw guys trying to make plays on both sides of the ball. Too bad Illinois decided it wanted to try and get as many penalties as possible. Blatant late hits were the norm tonight for the Illini and it cost them. The play that really turned the game against Illinois was the miffed fair catch that was recovered by Michigan which turned into only 3 points but I feel it put extra pressure on Illinois to try and catch up.

    Penn St. @ Indiana

Penn St. came away with a dominating win over Wisconsin last week. Penn St. though was at home. Penn St. does look like a very good football team but their on the road record makes me nervous. Will the Penn St. that played Michigan and Ilinois show up or will it be the team that played so well against Wisconsin? I think this game comes down to the defenses and Penn St. looks to be pretty solid. This will be a tough choice.

Indiana looks to be pretty solid with the exception of last week. The defense for the Hoosiers seems to give up a lot of points even when they win. The good news is they are at home and so far Penn St. hasn't won on the road. The loss wasn't just a loss last week to Michigan St., Indiana was destroyed. How much of that will be in the back of their minds or will they forget about it and move on?

    Penn St. 31 - Indiana 27 Actual Score : Penn St. 36 - Indiana 31

An absolutely fun and exciting game that went right down to the wire. Penn St. scored with a big first half and Indiana tried to play catch up the rest of the game. Indiana was in this right until the end. The final deciding factor was defense as the game was over once Penn St. intercepted the ball and was able to run out the clock afterwards. Indiana you just can't have 4 second half turnovers and expect to win.

    Iowa @ Purdue

Iowa showed that they have what it takes to play with the big boys last week. With the exception of that penalty though they actually lost last week. Sorry Iowa, not trying to come down on you guys but I just can't see you beating Purdue, escpecially AT Purdue. Last week was just a lucky win.

Purdue thought it was the big boy on the block but Ohio State and Michigan showed them its just not their time yet. Purdue is a great team but 2 straight losses can really get into your head. I think playing Iowa at home though is the perfect cure for 2 losses. Look for Purdue's offense to get right back into action and to be juiced up and ready to play.

    Iowa 21 - Purdue 38 Actual Score : Iowa 6 - Purdue 31

This was pretty much the expected outcome of this game. Purdue really stepped up after the 2 straight losses. Their offense really looks to be back on track. As far as Iowa it just seems to be a down year for them.

Michigan St. @ #1 Ohio St.

Michigan St. came out to play last week. I really thought they were going into free-fall mode. Their offense has really put up some big numbers even in the losses they have. However, not much of a defense going on here at Michigan St. Another problem they face is playing in the Horseshoe of Ohio St. I see the Michigan St. offense trying hard to score but just not getting the job done. Also I see their defense blowing coverages and getting down on themselves. This team though could finally show how good or bad Ohio St. really is.

#1 Ohio St. is looking good. Yeah, yeah, everyone complaining they played Kent St. Here in the Big Ten we know that was supposed to be a bye week so whatever. I see people just hating on Ohio St. because their teams have all lost. This week though its not Ohio St. vs. Michigan St. Its actually Ohio St. vs. The World because everyone except Ohio St. fans will be cheering for Michigan St. so that their teams can move up. The Buckeyes' defense is amazing and will shut down the Spartans like they did Purdue. Well, maybe not that well but they will be ready. Also Mr. Sweatervest seems to like to score early and often this season so look for the offense to put up some good numbers and they are at home. That is a deadly combination for any team trying to upset Ohio St.

    Michigan St. 17 - #1 Ohio St. 31 Actual Score : Michigan St. 17 - #1 Ohio St. 24

This game shouldn't have been this close. The Ohio St. offense is what really worries me. They gave up 2 touchdowns to the Spartan defense. The Buckeye defense once again didn't allow a touchdown in the "Shoe" and only allowed a field goal towards the end of the game. The Spartan defense saw that their offense wasn't scoring so they took matters into their own hands and scored twice. They almost had a third touchdown but Ohio St. was able to recover another forced fumble. After all that with about 5 minutes left to play the Buckeye offense decided to lock the game down by just running straight ahead over and over as the clock ticked down. Overall a great game and the score was as expected. With the exception that I thought it would be the Spartan offense scoring most of the points not their defense.

    North Dakota St. @ Minnesota

North Dakota St. doesn't even have a team page here. WTF. How am I supposed to find out about these guys? Holy Shit. I just looked up these guys on their web page and they are ranked #1 with no losses. I don't know much else about them but thats good enough for me to pick them over the Golden Dildoes.

Minnesota well guys I wish you were better so I wouldn't have to make fun of you. You guys look terrible. I think you guys really need to do something but I don't even know what that would be. Until you guys change your reputation I will refer to you as the Golden Dildoes. Hey, at least Goldy Gopher has a chance to win the Capital One Mascot Bowl. Get your asses out there and vote Minnesota fans. I will pray for you guys to win but I don't think even God himself could help.

    North Dakota St. 54 - Minnesota 47 Actual Score : North Dakota St. 27 - Minnesota 21

Well, what can I say. Minnesota is just looking really bad this year. I don't want to say anything too mean to my fellow Big Ten brothers but come on Gophers. This really makes the Big Ten look bad because we now have 2 teams that have lost to Div. 2 schools. Let's look at the bright side though. You guys are tied with Notre Dame in wins.

    Northwestern @ Eastern Michigan

Northwestern came away last week with another hard fought, close victory. You guys are showing improvements in some places but in other places you seem to be going backwards. That being said you should be able to handle Eastern Michigan.

Eastern Michigan has some tough losses this year. The last 2 games they played they seem to have improved a lot as an overall team. These guys always come to play and they play hard against everybody.

    Northwestern 39 - Eastern Michigan 33 Actual Score : Northwestern 26 - E. Michigan 14

This was a nice solid win for Northwestern. They showed that they can play defense when they need to. They also showed that they can come up with big plays on offense and also make sustaining drives. Eastern Michigan also looked pretty decent but they were just over-matched again. Eastern Michigan plays with a lot more heart than most big college teams and I have to give props to them. They might not always win, but they always come to play hard.

    Northern Illinois @ Wisconsin

Northern Illinois what is there to say about you? 1 win and the rest losses and those losses aren't even to good teams. Good Luck this week. NOT.

Wisconsin playing Northern Illinois is just what the doctor ordered for you guys to get out of this 2 loss slump. Hey, at least you lost to 2 good teams. Now its time to refocus and destroy a little school and bring the fun back into your program. After this team you have 3 of the toughest teams in the Big Ten so you better get your shit together in this game.

    Northern Illinois 10 - Wisconsin 43 Actual Score : Northern Illinois 3 - Wisconsin 44

This game was exactly what Wisconsin needed. They went in and just obliterated NI. I would talk more about this game but as you can see it was just a bit of an overmatch here. Hopefully this boosts Wisconsin's confidence and they can work their way back into the top 25.

To all the cry baby whiners complaining they want a playoff system. If we had a playoff system you bitches would still piss and moan and cry that its not fair. Now have a warm glass of SHUT THE HELL UP! Go BIG TEN! Go College Football! So much more exciting than the NFL!

Well, this was a very good weekend for me. 6 right and 1 wrong in Big Ten action and 2 out of 3 in the bonus picks. I am a little disappointed in the reffing calls in a few of the games but that's life and football. Thanks to everyone for sharing comments and thoughts on the page. Hopefully more and more people will driop in for discussions about the games I pick.

Big Ten Predictions Week 7 (UPDATED)

Monday, October 8, 2007, 03:18 PM EST [NCAA FB]

Lets start this off a little different this week. Wow, Stanford beats USC and puts Ohio St. in the running for a National Championship shot. This has been the year of the upsets, up and down the boards and no one is safe. The teams this year in the National Championship game will be the ones who avoid the hidden landmines in their schedule. Everyone continue to watch for shocking upsets this week in College Football. College Football is so much more exciting than the NFL(NO FUN LEAGUE).

This week I am going to start off with my bonus predictions first and then I will cover the Big Ten predictions. There is actually only two matchups this week outside of the Big Ten worth mentioning.

    LSU @ Kentucky

LSU proved last week that it has what it takes to be number 1. Let's see how long they can hold onto that number 1 ranking as it seems to be a curse to be ranked in the top 10. With that being said LSU should beat Kentucky quite handily.

Kentucky showed that its not ready to play the big games. This week against LSU look for their mediocrity to really show through. Let's be honest here though. It doesn't look like any team has what it takes to beat LSU. Then again this is the year of the upset.

    LSU 38 - Kentucky 13 Actual Score : LSU 37 - Kentucky 43

All I can really say about this game is that LSU beat itself. Kentucky did not win they just didn't lose. Poor play calling at the end of the game did LSU in. I shouldn't take to much away from the Wildcats because they did play their hearts out. Good job Big Blue.

    Missouri @ Oklahoma

Missouri looks to be a real contender this year and could quite possibly make a run for the National Championship game if they win out. Although its probably not going to happen. Missouri is notorious for blowing the big game at the worst time.

Oklahoma is trying to stake its claim as a National Championship contender even with its one loss. After a close win against Texas, which Oklahoma team is going to show up? Is it going to be the team that lost to the Buffs or will it be the team that prevailed over Texas? This one is too close to call.

    Missouri 27 - Oklahoma 30 Actual Score : Missouri 31 - Oklahoma 41

This was actually pretty one sided for Oklahoma. The score makes it look closer than it was. Looks like Missouri was brought back to earth for the moment. Oklahoma still has its shot at the National Championship. By the way, the Missouri touchdown at the end of the game was complete bullshit. He was not even close to getting in and they didn't take time to review it because it wasn't going to change the course of the game. The score should have been Missouri 24 - Oklahoma 41.

Ok, time to move on to the BiG TEN. Last week I was 4 and 2 (bringing my total to 8 and 4) and missed my upset pick for Northwestern by 1 week. I knew eventually they would knock someone off just wasn't sure who or when it would be.

    Illinois @ Iowa

Illinois looks very strong so far in the season. They have a good shot at being the Big Ten champions this year. That's how good they look. With a close loss to an undeafeted Missouri team they should be ranked higher. This game against Iowa would be a cakewalk for Illinois but this is the most unpredictable season ever in college football.

Iowa wtf is going on with you guys? You need to light a fire under your ass and start making plays. This team looks like a bunch of slack-jawed losers and deserve the beating they are going to get from Illinois.

    Illinois 31 - Iowa 3 Actual Score : Illinois 6 - Iowa 10

Wow, what a crazy game. Came right down to the end. I didn't like the flag that was thrown though that cost Illinois the game. Overall though a very exciting game to watch. Congrats Iowa.

    Indiana @ Michigan St.

Indiana looks like another surprisingly strong team this year. With only one loss to a very good Illinois team that also only has one loss. Indiana looks to be bowl bound. With Indiana riding high on a winning season and Michigan St. once again in free fall mode look for a tough but good win for Indiana.

Michigan St. has now lost two in a row. One was a heartbreaker to Wisconsin and the other a loss to Northwestern which shouldn't have happened. Watch Michigan St. curl up into the fetal position and play dead against the Hoosiers.

    Indiana 17 - Michigan St. 13 Actual Score : Indiana 27 - Michigan St. 52

So much for Michigan St. going into the fetal position. Looks like they had something to prove after two straight losses. Nice win for Michigan St.

    Purdue @ Michigan

Purdue was comletely man-handled by Ohio St. The offense was completely shut down and taken right out of the game. This game against Michigan, we will see what the Boilermakers are made of. Will Purdue fall apart at the seams after their first loss or will they bounce back and win over the Wolverines?

Michigan has been winning but simply put, they look like shit. What happened to this offense? The only thing good on this team right now is Mike Hart but he can't win alone. I know you Wolverine fans won't like this but I see Purdue getting an early lead and Michigan playing catch up the rest of the game and not quite getting it done. Also this season playing in the Bighouse is more like playing in the Outhouse. Your fans need to scream and yell all day long even if your losing. This Michigan team needs all the help it can get.

    Purdue 23 - Michigan 21 Actual Score : Purdue 21 - Michigan 48

Well Michigan jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Michigan looked like the Michigan everyone expected to see at the begining of the season. The question still remains though. Which Michigan team will stick around week in and week out. Also this should bump Michigan back into the top 25.

    Minnesota @ Northwestern

Minnesota doesn't even deserve to have anything wrote about it other than they just plain stink.

Northwestern is coming off of a huge upset win over Michigan St. Are they going to be hung over this Saturday or are they going to focus on this game?

    Minnesota 44 - Northwestern 47 Actual Score : Minnesota 48 - Northwestern 49

This was a true shootout. Not much more to say since both teams really don't have a chance of going anywhere this year. Or do they?

    Kent St. @ Ohio St.

Kent St. as long as the National Guard doesn't show up the football team should be ok. What I mean is they will at least be alive after this weeks slaughter. Although one thing that is in their favor is that coach Tressel doesn't like to run his scores up.

Ohio St. is easily the best Big Ten team right now and pretty much gets the weekend off but as said before numerous times this is a strange season. The good news for the Buckeyes is that coach Tressel is so focused on each individual game that Ohio St. will be fine. They probably won't even win by that much. The senator doesn't even like offense and has been known to say he would like to win every game 3 to 0.

    Kent St. 7 - Ohio St. 26 Actual Score : Kent St. 3 - Ohio St. 48

I like how everyone in the world is complaining about Ohio St. playing Kent St. What they don't realize this was a last minute addition to the schedule because the Big Ten doesn't have "bye weeks". It was a perfect tune-up game for OSU who now has to run the gauntlet of conference opponents to finish out the season. Will they be able to avoid the land mines that have plagued all no. 1 ranked teams this year? Congrats OSU you are now probably going to be ranked NUMBER 1.

    Wisconsin @ Penn St.

Wisconsin is coming off of a disturbingly close loss to Illinois. The Badgers will be ready against Penn St. Hopefully Wisconsin has a bad memory and will have forgotten about the loss to Illinois already and will be looking forward to beating up on an over-rated(hate using that word but in this case its true) Penn St.

Penn St. I know you don't want to hear this but your just not that good. You will be outclassed at home against a way better Wisconsin team. Tough luck for the Lions and I wish you better luck next year.

    Wisconsin 33 - Penn St. 13 Actual Score : Wisconsin 7 - Penn St. 38

This really shouldn't have happened but it did. Wisconsin and Penn St. seem to be like bi-polar juveniles. Winning and losing you just can't seem to pick which or when they will do it. Oh well, congrats on a big win Penn St.

Not sure how to end this since nothing interesting has happened this week other than my kid decided to piss in the cat's water bowl. Then he proceeded to tell me that the cat did it. Maybe I shouldn't have been such a mischievious little shit to my parents because I feel like I am paying for it three-fold now.

Wow, with the way the weekend went I really got hosed on those picks. That now puts me at 10 and 8. I don't feel to bad though because this season in college football has been so topsy turvy its only going to get harder to predict each week.

Big Ten Predictions Week 6 (UPDATED)

Thursday, October 4, 2007, 12:08 AM EST [General]

    Wisconsin @ Illinois

Wisconsin looked weak on defense last week but the offense looked like it was cranking on all cylinders. Watch for the Badgers to get back to hard nose Big Ten football against Illinois.

Illinois had a nice win against Penn St. last week. Although Penn St. just never seems to be as strong as people expect. Illinois just doesn't have what it takes to match up against Wisconsin.

    Wisconsin 34 - Illinois 17 Actual Score : Wisconsin 26 - Illinois 31

    Minnesota @ Indiana

Minnesota is not as bad as they look. They do have a halfway decent offense but their defense is atrocious. This game could get ugly for the Gophers.

Indiana wow. They have not looked this good in a long time. The Hoosiers need to take Minnesota seriously otherwise they will get zapped in the butt by them. I don't see Indiana not taking every game seriously though so look for them to put on a good show.

    Minnesota 23 - Indiana 33 Actual Score : Minnesota 20 - Indiana 40

    Iowa @ Penn St.

Iowa just looks sad and beat up this year. Don't look for them to look good in this game either.

Penn St. nice little two game free fall there. I saw that coming from 3 miles out. Nothing like beating up on a very weak inter-conference opponent this week to get your confidence back.

    Iowa 13 - Penn St. 37 Actual Score : Iowa 7 - Penn St. 27

    Eastern Michigan @ Michigan

Eastern Michigan is another one of these teams that I know nothing about because they never end up anywhere near the top. One good thing about Eastern Michigan is they always bring their "A" game when they play Michigan.

Michigan just doesn't look good but they seem to keep winning. The wins against Penn St. and Northwestern were just flat out ugly. Watching Michigan play in those games is like watching your parents have sex. I am just wondering how long Michigan can flounder along and keep getting wins. Playing Eastern Michigan should be like having a bye week for the Wolverines but then again there is the whole App St. thing that happened.

    Eastern Michigan 13 - Michigan 27 Actual Score : Eastern Michigan 22 - Michigan 33

    Northwestern @ Michigan St.

Northwestern almost provided me with my upset pick last week but just couldn't hold on. Nice try guys and keep up the hard work. Look to next year or even the year after, when this game is over. This game will be another brutal loss.

Michigan St. had a tough loss last week to Wisconsin but they will bounce back this week. The Spartans knew they had a chance against Wisconsin and put it all on the line and left everything they had on the field. Too bad it just wasn't enough.

    Northwestern 15 - Michigan St. 41 Actual Score : Northwestern 48 - Michigan St. 41

    Ohio St. @ Purdue

Ohio St. beat Minnesota quite easily last week with little to no effort involved. Watch for Ohio St. to ramp it up against a team they know they have to beat. The Buckeyes always shine during these moments and watch them drop some huge numbers on Purdue.

Purdue is having one of their best seasons ever. The Boilermakers are able to put up awesome offensive numbers. The defense on the other hand allowed Notre Dame to score the most points ever so far this year and we know how good Notre Dame is. It's to bad Purdue has to face Ohio St because this will be their first L of the season.

    Ohio St. 45 - Purdue 26 Actual Score : Ohio St. 23 - Purdue 7

Well I would have wrote more about each team but it was late and I was getting tired. Also my kids spilled orange juice on the old keyboard and I had to go buy a new one so I wasn't to happy while writing this. For all you moms and dads out there I salute you. Time to go spank mine with a board just like my parents did to me.

Oh I almost forgot my bonus predictions. I am not going to talk about the teams but just put the scores out there for you.

    Kentucky 30 @ South Carolina 10 Actual Score : Kentucky 23 @ South Carolina 38

Bleh, who could have predicted Kentucky turning the ball over that many times and 2 of them for touchdowns. Nice job South Carolina. Also this should pretty much end the talk about Woodson being a Heisman candidate.

    Oklahoma 39 @ Texas 16 Actual Score : Oklahoma 28 @ Texas 21

I have to admit Texas played surprisingly tough against a much better Oklahoma team that should have rolled over Texas. It was a very exciting game to watch to the very end.

    Florida 41 @ LSU 38 Actual Score : Florida 24 @ LSU 28

What a great game to watch. I really thought my prediction was going to come true but Florida failed to close the deal. I also thought both teams would score a few more points but both defenses really proved how strong they are. LSU definately solidified their No. 1 ranking and I honestly don't think Florida should be ranked outside the top 10, they are a good team.

Big Ten Predictions Week 5 (UPDATED)

Tuesday, September 25, 2007, 01:34 PM EST [Big Ten]

    Penn St. @ Illinois

Penn St. is coming off a heartbreaker loss to Michigan. Penn St. looked very disorganized and didn't even look like a top ten team. The Lions offense really needs to show up against Illinois. Same goes for their defense.

Illinois is looking like a very solid team but then again they have played some very mediocre teams. Illinois shows that they can put up some points on the board. Although their defense is somewhat lacking.

    Penn St. 27 - Illinois 34  Actual Score: Penn St. 20 - Illinois 27

    Indiana @ Iowa

Indiana has been a real shocker lately. With the exception of last week's loss to Illinois. This week vs. Iowa will be another real challenge to see if Indiana can step up or needs to shut up.

Iowa normally a perrenial powerhouse in the Big Ten looks to be having another mediocre season. With close losses to Iowa St. and Wisconsin look for Iowa to step up their game this week.

    Indiana 17 - Iowa 45  Actual Score: Indiana 38 - Iowa 20

    Michigan @ Northwestern

Michigan looked to be the laughing stock of the Big Ten and all of college football but bounced back with two straight wins. Although the wins were against a completey shitty and laughable Notre Dame and what I considered to be a mediocre Penn St. Michigan is riding high right now but look for them to have a hangover weekend against a very pissed off Northwestern.

Northwestern was completey dismantled and recycled by the Buckeyes look for them to have an astonishing bounce back weekend at home.

    Michigan 6 - Northwestern 17  Actual Score: Michigan 28 - Northwestern 16

    Michigan St. @ Wisconsin

Michigan St. is 4-0 which is no small feat but again has faced no real teams. Their toughest opponent this year was Pittsburgh. Who the hell is that?

Wisconsin has been playing way below their potential. Look for them to get fired up knowing they are playing a good team.

    Michigan St. 3 - Wisconsin 37  Actual Score: Michigan St. 34 - Wisconsin 37

    Ohio St. @ Minnesota

Ohio St. looks great on defense and last week just showed that their offense is alive. Look for Ohio St. to annihilate Minnesota.

Minnesota is supposed to be called the Golden Gophers but look more like a bunch of Golden Dildoes. Watch for them to be drummed into the ground.

    Ohio St. 52 - Minnesota 0  Actual Score: Ohio St. 30 - Minnesota 7

    Notre Dame @ Purdue

Notre Dame looks more like Notre Shame and thats a nickname that will stick with this years team for years to come. When you get excited over making your first touchdown and its the 4th game of the season that means YOU REALLY SUCK. I wish Purdue wasn't playing Notre Dame because I am tired of hearing about Notre Dame. I wish I had a fan that would blow them away like a bad smelling fart.

Purdue seems to really be one of the top contenders in the Big Ten but once again they have played some of the worst teams in college football. One of the teams they played (Eastern Illinois) doesn't even have a team page on Fox Sports. The other three teams are a combined 3-9. Anyways the good thing is they are playing Notre Dame who is just a punching bag or a minor bump in the road to be beat on or be driven over towards a championship. Huge blowout here.

    Notre Dame 6 - Purdue 89  Actual Score: Notre Dame 19 - Purdue 33

Guess thats it for Big Ten action. To bad I don't get the Big Ten network since my cable company is ran by a bunch of Kansas City faggots. Oh well at least Notre Dame signed that t.v. contract and I get to watch them lose every week this year.
