Big Ten Predictions Week 7 (Updated)

Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 02:06 PM EST [General]

Week 7 is upon us. Amazing how the season is already half over. Last week I did an awesome write up but the FOXSports page gave me a major letdown. So I am trying this on notepad first to see how this goes. Wish me luck. I was 6-0 last week let's make it a two-fer. This brings my total to an amazing 42-9.

    Iowa @ Indiana

Iowa last week played their guts out once again in a close loss. This week they get an opponent that has been reeling the last 3 weeks. Iowa hasn't looked bad in their losses but they haven't exactly looked good either. I say put it on the coaches not the players. They are only doing what they are told. They execute the plays that are sent in no matter how dumb they are. Maybe sometime they should try calling their own shots. Nah, that would never happen.

Notable Quote: "You can't be sitting in the red zone with two opportunities to score and turn the ball over twice. Turnovers are definitely the thing. We've had a lot the last two weeks, and a lot of those go to me, which isn't good."-- QB Ricky Stanzi, on his five turnovers in two Big Ten starts. Hmm, maybe they should start someone else smart guy.

Indiana this is probably your best chance to win for the rest of the season except for maybe CMU. The defense is rated way below Iowa's but the offense is rated way above. This makes this call really difficult this week but I don't feel this team has the heart of last year's team. Once again Indiana will keep this one close but will inevitably fall short even though they are at home.

Notable Quote: "It was a tough loss. I thought our defense played hard, and they really played well against a good offensive team and gave us a chance. Unfortunately, we didn't do enough on the offensive side to give us the points that we needed."-- Head coach Bill Lynch why his team struggled vs. Minnesota. Really? 7 points isn't enough offensively?

    Iowa 14 Indiana 10      Actual Score : Iowa 45 Indiana 9

Wow!!! Iowa decided to show up and put a massive beatdown on Indiana. Where in the hell has this Iowa team been? Does this change things for both teams? Probably not. I am actually kind of speechless about this pummeling. I seriously want to know what was different this week for Iowa than the last couple weeks?

    Minnesota @ Illinois

Minnesota I give you guys no chance. Well, ok I shouldn't say no chance but a very slim one. Hey, we all know anything can happen on Saturday. Unfortunatly this isn't one of those Saturdays. Just remember though all you have to do is win one more for a shot at a bowl game. Wow, your schedule really doesn't favor that scenario either.

Notable Quote: "This is what we came here to do, what I came here to do. To play defense. This feels great." -- LB Lee Campbell, to the Star Tribune. That's great buddy. You are a linebacker you know? On defense.

Illinois looked a bit rusty to start against Michigan but once again was firing on all cylinders by the end of the game. Just based on the offensive side of the ball these guys should have little to no problems scoring against Minnesota. Michigan really made these guys look amazing in the last game. The Illinois offense will get it going early in this one. One thing that worries me is the Illinois defense just isn't that good. Illinois will win this one but not before allowing a lot of scores.

Notable Quote: "It's a great feeling. Anytime you beat a top program with a lot of tradition like Michigan, it's a great feeling. It's something that you'll never forget. We were able to bounce back after last week's loss up at Penn State. It was a loss that gave you a gut-sick feeling -- and we hated it." -- QB Juice Williams in the Daily Herald. Yep, nothing better than beating a traditional powerhouse in a DOWN year moron. Also Penn State is over from Illinois not up.

    Minnesota 21 Illinois 42       Actual Score : Minnesota 27 Illinois 20

Minnesota just keeps surprising everyone. After the beating they took against OSU I really thought they would curl up into the fetal position for the rest of the year. This Minnesota team is much different than last year's and this win puts them on the radar. Illinois still hasn't quite become that top tier team that they want to be. Welcome back to the middle of the Big Ten. Congratulations Minnesota you are now bowl eligible.

    Toledo @ Michigan

Michigan we keep going back and forth. Your good, your bad, your good, your really bad.
What's the deal are you good or bad? Well, at least you have Toledo heading your way.
Nothing like having a cupcake to munch on in the middle of the season. This will be like a nice practice. You will get to do whatever you want all day long. Unless Toledo decides to pull an Appy State on your ass.

Notable Quote: "Let's face it, we're going to be grinding for the rest of the year. That's where we're at right now. If I'm speaking to you three, four years from now and saying every game's a grind, then you'll see we didn't build the program the right way. But right now? This year? We may have to grind." -- first-year Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez. What the hell does that even mean? Grind? Like grinding for xp in an MMO?

Toledo has been way down this year. These guys were actually predicted to be one of the top teams in the MAC. This season is a total bust. Toledo has always been a decent school but lately has just been a joke. Well, jokes on you this week. Your going to Michigan.

Notable Quote: "We didn't rush the ball the way we wanted to. Part of our plan was to be able to run the ball to set up the rest of our offense and we didn't get that executed. I give them credit for playing very good defense, but our execution wasn't where it needed to be."-- UT coach Tom Amstutz on the Rockets netting just 14 yards rushing compared to 240 for the Cardinals. Boy, you got a knack for stating the obvious.

Toledo 10 Michigan 27         Actual Score: Toledo 13 Michigan 10

Michigan is officially on my shit list and every other craptastic list out there. I understand you have a new head coach and a new system but damn it's fucking Toledo. You know the little city just south of Michigan that you and Ohio almost went to war over? The one thing Rich did wrong was trying to implement his system all at once. I said it before he should have implemented about half of it and kept half of the old system that way they have something to fall back on when they need it. Instead he just chucked everything out the window and said fuck Michigan's tradition of always being good. I think all of Michigan is saying "There is always next year." It's a sad day in football when a Big Ten power gets beat by a MAC team. You can have a down season and not lose to teams like that. I need to stop now before I blow a blodd vessel.

    Michigan State @ Northwestern

Michigan State has played really well. Alot of people are still looking at their loss to Cal saying they aren't that good. Hey, it was the first game of the season. Wrinkles get ironed out and that is what Michigan State has done. This week is another big test. They are at Northwestern who is believing in themselves. All Michigan State has to do is keep it close.
Eventually Ringer will bring them home. If Ringer doesn't get going in this one though, its over. This one will be close until Ringer breaks a big one early in the fourth quarter. Then Michigan State's defense comes in and finishes things up.

Notable Quote: "I just know that there is something special about this football team.
We've been able to reach each other a little bit and play through some difficult times."-- MSU coach Mark Dantonio. Yeah, special. Special ED.

Northwestern has had a stellar season so far. This week it comes to an end. Fear not though you have Purdue and Indiana coming up after this one. This team really has been a surprise team so far this year and I still don't know a lot about them. What I do know is that they aren't as good as their record shows. Win this week and make me a believer Northwestern.

Notable Quote: "He earned this honor because of a great week of practice, solid focus and taking what the defense gave him." -- coach Pat Fitzgerald discussing QB C.J. Bacher's Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award. Really? There was no other offensive person who didn't play better than this guy? I call BS on this one. Oh, well throw them a bone they are 5-0.

Michigan State 30 Northwestern 24        Actual Score : Michigan State 37 Northwestern 20

Sort of a blow out but not really. A really good game to watch and both teams looked decent. Obviously MSU looked better becasue they won. At first I thought Northwestern was in serious truble when it was down by 17 after the first quarter but they tried to get back in the game. Northwestern never stopped playing but MSU was just too much for them.

    Purdue @ Ohio State

Purdue has gone ugly. The 2 wins they have are against less than admirable opponents.
This team is probably one of the biggest disappointments in the Big Ten. Toss in the fact that now they don't even know who they want in at QB. These guys are in disarray and now they have to play Ohio State in the 'Shoe. This one could get ugly unless Tressel keeps usig his playbook from the 60's.

Notable Quote: "It was a horrible throw, a horrible decision. There's no way to sugarcoat it. It was really, really ugly." -- Purdue coach Joe Tiller, on the interception that finally got Curtis Painter benched. You mean you wern't going to bench him until that happened? Pure genius.

Ohio State is back on track. Sort of. Well, the players are but the coaches aren't. This team is winning just based on it's talent level. Put them up against another opponent with the same amount of talent and they will lose. They will lose because the coaches lack vision and really don't seem to know how to use the talent they have. It's frustrating to see so much talent being used so inefficiently. Ohio State will continue to win based on talent but will eventually lose when facing an opponent with a superior game plan. Ala USC. Who had the talent and the gameplanning to waste OSU. The Buckeye offense has all the pieces to put up monster numbers but still only puts up enough to win. This is strictly a playcalling thing. When OSU gets the playcalling to match the talent the rest of the country better watch out. As of right now OSU really is only a paper tiger.

Notable Quote: "I told him this is a man's game, and he's taking a step into manhood,"
Beanie Wells, on freshman quarterback Terrelle Pryor. Damn, I really want to make fun of this quote but I can't think of anything off the top of my head. Now I look like a homer. Maybe someone else can come up with something.

Purdue 20 Ohio State 28     Actual Score : Purdue 3 Ohio State 16

I will just say for Purdue it looks to be a down year. Your coach is leaving and it's always tough to be competitive when that is looming. As for OSU I feel like we lost that game. After watching it I had the biggest headache ever. No offensive touchdown and the same grabastic offensive playcalling is getting OSU no where. I was really surprised to see OSU even moved up in the polls. They should have dropped at least 2 spots. The era of winning with defense only in bowl games is over and we are getting setup to be slaughtered in one. I know OSU was never in danger of losing this game but damn 3 field goals only? WTF. You have the talent but not the playcalling. I think I just gave myself another headache just revisiting this game.

    Penn State @ Wisconsin

Penn State with no doubt is the cream of the crop in the Big Ten as of right now. This game at Camp Randall will be a huge test just like it was for the Buckeyes. There is no reason to pick against Penn State but sometimes you just get that feeling. The one that says "Yep, this is the game they lose." Penn State has gone through their schedule and just dominated opponent after opponent. I think right now though the focus of the team is on the health of Joe Pa. They just won't be ready.

Notable Quote: "I've taken more pills in the past two months than I've taken in my life."--- Penn State coach Joe Paterno, who watched the Purdue game from the coaches' box to rest his injured right leg, which he takes pain medication for. I would never make fun of someone who is down on their luck when it comes to health. Good luck with being healthy Joe Pa and I hope your team wins this weekend.

Wisconsin has lost 2 close ones in a row. They just couldn't close the deal. With Penn State heading in they will refocus on knocking off the big dog and get it done this weekend.
The combination of losing 2 close ones, Joe Pa's health and an angry group of people at Camp Randall makes this one a win for the Badgers. Another reason they will win this one is so everyone can say the Big Ten is weak. Which just isn't true. If Wisconsin plays mistake free and keeps the crowd in this game it's all over for the Nittany Lions.

Notable Quote: "I just dropped back and didn't want to take a sack, so I was trying to check it down and just didn't see (Ohio State CB Malcolm) Jenkins. That's my job, and I have to see him, and they came and made a great pick. It's just frustrating." -- Wisconsin QB Allan Evridge describing his last-minute interception that sealed Ohio State's 20-17 win. Wow, you didn't see a 6'1" 201 lb. black guy right in front of the reciever you were trying to throw to?

Penn State 21 Wisconsin 23        Actual Score : Penn State 48 Wisconsin 7

Well, Wisconsin's chances of doing pretty much anything are over. Maybe you will make it to a minor bowl game but that is about it. All your left playing for this year is pride. As for Penn State, holy shit. You guys are way above everyone else in the Big Ten. Don't lose your focus and you will be in the NCG. You guys are in the driver seat. There really isn't a team left on the schedule that matches up well. After what I saw on Saturday night I can't say enough good things about this team. One word of advice. If you go to the NCG win the damn thing please.

Well, in closing I just want to say thanks to the guy that was giving away a 42" Plasma Screen T.V. He gave it away on Craigslist because it would only turn on every four tries.
I replaced the batteries in the remote. It turns on evertime now. Hooray for me! Also I hope everyone knows I am just teasing people with my comments about the notable quotes. I figured injecting some humor into the blog would be fun.

Not much of a wrap up so I will just say I am 45-12. So all the haters can suck it.

Big Ten Predictions Week 6 (UPDATED)

Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 01:31 PM EST [General]

Well, I spent an hour and a half writing this up when FOXSPORTS.COM fucked me with some server error. So here are the scores. Yeah, I'm fucking pissed.

Indiana 17 Minnesota 31            Actual Score: Indiana 7 Minnesota 16

I really though Minnesota was going to score alot more. It looks like Indiana is really going in the right direction with their defense. Minnesota's defense also set themselves up with a win by limiting Indiana to only a touchdown.

    Illinois 27 Michigan 13        Actual Score : Illinois 45 Michigan 20

Michigan really looked like they were on their way up in the first half of this game. Then Illinois decided it had enough of the Wolverines and buried them with 21 points in the fourth quarter. Michigan looked like they might be on track and come away with a win. Illinois showed Michigan what the spread offense can do when its working.

Iowa 10 Michigan State 39        Actual Score : Iowa 13 Michigan State 16

I got to give Iowa credit they have been in every game that they have lost down to the last second. Ferentz needs to be more colorful with his offense. The defense seems okay with a couple of errors here and there. If the offense could score more the defense would actually look better. Well, Michigan State wins another close one. This seems to be their M.O. this year which is better than last year's of losing the close ones.

Ohio State 20 Wisconsin 17 OT    Actual Score : Ohio State 20 Wisconsin 17

Damn, why did I have to throw in that OT? Oh well, calling a score on a game doesn't get much closer than this. We knew this would be a slug fest and it would come down to whoever's running back had the better night which was OSU. This one came sctriclty down to talent because the play calling in the Big Ten in general is FUCKING TERRIBLE. You have some of the greatest athletes on the field and the coaches are calling the lamest plays ever. Not only that but I listened to this game on the, well hold on I will save what I was going to say for my roundup. Wisconsin better put these two close losses behind them quickly because they got Penn State heading their way.

Penn State 44 Purdue 6     Actual Score : Penn State 20 Purdue 6

With a 20-6 score you would think this game was close but Penn State was never in danger of losing the whole way through. They just did what they wanted to do and did just enough to win convincingly. A bright spot for Purdue is they put in the backup QB and he looked pretty good.

My previous write up was awesome. I am just so dissappointed right now. Laters.

Well, what I was going to say about the Big Ten coaches is that they have some of the best athletes in the world and they call the lamest plays possible. I was listening to the OSU/Wiscy game on the radio and the announcer would say what down it was and how many yards to go and then would say what play was going to come up not just a couple of times but almost the whole night. I decided to get in on the action and started guessing the plays that would be called for all the games I watched in the Big Ten and I was right about 80% of the time. Hey, if a guy listening to the radio can guess what play is coming don't you think the other FUCKING team knows whats coming also!!!!!! FFS coaches pull your heads out of your asses and make some ballsy play calls and do stuff people don't think you are going to do. I challenge everyone that reads this to pick a game and keep track of how many plays you guessed they were going to run. I'm out.

Big Ten Predictions Week 5 (UPDATED)

Tuesday, September 23, 2008, 10:55 AM EST [Other]

Holy shit week five already. I don't feel like messing around with any BS so let's get straight into the predictions.

    Illinois @ Penn State

Illinois after getting beat by Missouri came back with 2 straight wins over less than stellar teams. One was a blow out and the other was a close one against Louisiana-Lafayette. I think Illinois is in trouble this week. Juice is still on the loose but without a dominate running back and only decent recievers the offense looks like it has regressed. I don't give Illinois much chance in this game except for the fact it is a conference game and teams always come to play for these games.

Penn State has utterly annihilated every team placed in front of them. Yes, these teams aren't very good but Penn State shows you that the teams they play aren't good by absolutely dismantling them on the field. Penn State will put up some good numbers this week but it will be less than what they had been putting up.

Illinois 23 Penn State 39        Actual Score : Illinois 24 Penn State 38

Wow, was I really that close to calling this one? Someone pinch my left testicle. Anyways this was a statement game for Penn State and they showed they have what it takes to be ranked at the top. As far as Illinois I really don't see any improvements to this team over last year's team. In fact after losing their star running back to the NFL I would say they are a bit less than what last year's team was.

    Michigan State @ Indiana

Michigan State easily beat the overhyped ND team and now travel to Indiana. Dantonio has his defense gearing up and Javon Ringer is running like a man with his hair on fire. Michigan State is on a roll and Indiana is in the way and will get steamed over.

Indiana had a tough loss last week and won't bounce back against a very tough Michigan State team. Sorry Indiana this one is another loss. Although you will keep it close in the first quarter after that things get out of hand.

Michigan State 31 Indiana 17       Actual Score : Michigan State 42 Indiana 29

I was really surprised by how many points Indiana was able to put up on a stout Michigan State defense. Indiana really has an uphill battle the rest of the year but seeing them score consistantly against a Dantonio led defense should make their fans feel a little better. They won't be shutout of any games. Michigan State really ramped up their scoring and they needed to. The only blemish on their record is a loss to Cal and they could find themselves in the Top 25 in no time if they keep winning like this. Each poll only has them behind one or two teams outside of the Top 25.

    Northwestern @ Iowa

Northwestern is hot right now. Although Iowa will be by far their toughest opponent so far this season. Northwestern needs to stay focused throughout this game and not get worried when they fall behind. Too bad becaue they will fall behind early and the Wildcats will try to force things to catch up quickly which will become turnovers.

Iowa lost a tough one last week to Pitt even though they should have wasted that shitty team. Oh, well get over it Hawkeyes. In comes Northwestern which you will handle nicely. This is a good win for the Hawkeyes and puts them back on track. Unless Ferentz comes up with some really lame playcalling.

    Northwestern 13 Iowa 21     Actual Score : Northwestern 22 Iowa 17

Iowa seems to be my last year's Northwestern team. Everytime I pick them to win the ones they should they lose. Watch. I will pick them to lose next weekend and they will probably win. That's what Northwestern did to me all last year. Iowa is a good team but based on what I have seen will probably end up somewhere in the middle of the Big Ten. Northwestern has crept up on my list of good teams in the Big Ten. Let's see if they can stay there. 5-0 is a great start for any program and they are playing tough. I have to say that I am confused why they are not ranked in the Top 25. Although, they are the first team left off of the list. Win next week and they will be on it.

    Wiconsin @ Michigan

Wisconsin is on the road to the Big Ten title with little Michigan in there way this week they should be fine. Wisconsin has handled there previous opponents quite well and Fresno State was on its way to be a BCS Buster until the Badgers changed those plans. Wisconin handles this game in the first half.

Michigan you guys just need to get used to losing this year. I don't think I have any positives for you to look at other than there is always next year. Wow, that's my shortest write-up for Michigan ever. You guys must really be terrible.

    Wisconsin 30 Michigan 7     Actual Score : Wisconsin 25 Michigan 27

Not sure what happened to Wisconsin but they had this game well in hand and just watched it slip away. Nothing against Michigan but if you can't beat them you really don't have much of a chance to be Big Ten champs this year. As for Michigan way to stay in this and fight all the way back for the win. I know your program is in transition but by the end of the year you guys might be ready to reach a bowl game after all. The only thing that kept Michigan in this one was there defense and that their offense decided to show up in the second half. I see Michigan taking baby steps towards being great once again.

    Ohio State @ Minnesota

Ohio State is moving forward with Pryor as the starting QB. This kid has so much talent he could almost beat Minnesota by himself. One thing though. He doesn't play defense and Minnesota puts up points. The key to this game won't be the offense it will be the defense. Which defense will show up? The "fluffy bunny we love you defense" or the "I am going to rip off your head and shit down our neck defense"? I hope it's the second one because I am going with Ohio State for the win.

Minnesota has accomplished 4 times as much this year than last year. They are only 2 wins away from a possible bowl game and 3 from almost being assured. It's been a cinderella run so far but it ends Saturday. Sorry Gophers you guys are much improved but no matter how bad Ohio State is they will still beat you. Such is life. I just checked the WhatIfSports prediction and they already changed it for Minnesota to lose. What a lame site.

Ohio State 43 Minnesota 27     Actual Score : Ohio State 34 Minnesota 21

This game wasn't even close. Yeah the score says it was but it wasn't. OSU could have easily kept this game a 34-6 win. Instead OSU put in second and third stringers and allowed Minnesota to go down for two quick scores at the end of the game. I noticed OSU didn't move up in the polls and alot of it has to do with style points. I hate the BCS system we have and it just makes coaches look like assholes even if they aren't. IE. Coaches must run up the scores to move up in the polls. How lame. Anyways Minnesota embrace your 4-0 start. Your program is almost back on track but it will be tough to pick you guys to win for the rest of the season. The Big Ten schedule your facing would be a meat grinder for any team.

    Purdue @ Notre Dame

Purdue will continue the Big Ten beatdown of Notre Dame. Look for massive points put up by the Boilermaker's offense. The defense will get in the mix also with at least 3 forced turnovers. This game will be fun for Purdue. Enjoy it.

Notre Dame you guys might as well join the Big Ten and give us a championship game. Oh, that's right you guys would be at the bottom of the Big Ten year round so you wouldn't want to do that. Get a clue, get rid of Jabba the Weiss and get back to being a good football team.

Purdue 38 Notre Dame 10     Actual Score : Purdue 21 Notre Dame 38

Are you kidding me? If you can't beat Notre Dame how can you beat anyone else in the Big Ten. Your team should have mopped up ND but instead just got wiped by ND. Now we have to hear how great ND is for another week. Purdue shouldn't look to me to get picked too much more for wins this year. Their schedule is also a very brutal one. ND you play the Big Ten and Pac Ten so much just pick a fucking conference already and join it you bitches. Anyways congratulations to ND you deserved this win.

Well that's it for this week. I love chatting with you guys in the comments and hopefully these picks are a bit more controversial. Maybe not. 33-6 so far I must have crystal balls or meth.

Damn, I just realized the 27th is my birthday. I will give you a hint to how old I am. I was born 2 weeks after the Japanese Red Army members seize the French Embassy in The Hague, Netherlands. They secure the release of member Yatuka Fumiya, $300,000 and a flight to Aden.

HAHA, tricked you bitches and did my update on a Sunday. Anyways I can't believe I was was only 3-3 this weekend. This puts me at a total of 36-9. Some teams are on my shit list and its going to be even harder to make picks next week. Happy birthday to me. I'm 34 since none of you lame asses answered the bottom question. Also any of you genius' could have looked at my profile and found the answer. This last paragragh was mostly written in jest because I love you all for coming to my page and yes I'm fucking wasted. What else are birthday weekends for?

Big Ten Predictions Week 4 (UPDATED)

Tuesday, September 16, 2008, 03:09 PM EST [General]

Well here it is week four and the big dawgs of the Big Ten have now been replaced. No longer is it OSU and Michigan at the top. In steps Penn State and Wisconsin to carry the conference's torch. So far I am 27 - 4 on my predictions so every stick with me. I noticed no one has been checking my blog after I update it on Mondays so I will discontinue that part unless people ask me to keep it. On to the predictions!

    Ball State @ Indiana

Indiana has been looking good so far this season. They really haven't been tested until this week though. I think Indiana has what it takes to beat these guys though.

Ball State has been looking really solid. This will be a knockdown drag out fight between two decent programs. I just don't see Ball State standing at the end.

Ball State 17 Indiana 21          Actual Score : Indiana 20 Ball State 42

Tough loss for Indiana they were really in this game until about 6 minutes left in the 4th. Keep your head up guys, you played until the end. What can you do? Ball State just played harder.

    Iowa @ Pitt

Iowa looks so hot right now how could I pick against them. You just can't.

Pitt on the other hand is just garbage so far this year. Yeah, they won last week. Woop dee doo. It was freaking Buffalo.

    Iowa 38 Pitt 6    Actual Score : Iowa 20 Pitt 21

This game shouldn't have even been close. It looked like Ferentz was taking the same crappy plays out of Tressel's book. Up the middle go nowhere. WTF happened to the team that was lighting up the scoreboard. They get into a close game and decide to play close to the vest. This team is good but they need to play full throttle till the end.

    Notre Dame @ Michigan State

Michigan State is no longer the little brother of Michigan. They are the real deal and will replace Michigan this year and next year and the big power in that state.

Notre Dame is going to use the win over Michigan to legitamize that they are good. Guess what. This game is going to put you back into reality. Michigan is crap this year. You are going down this weekend.

Notre Dame 9 Michigan State 30          Actual Score : Notre Dame 7 Michigan State 23

The Spartans played good ball but not great. Javon Ringer ran all over ND and looked like a Heisman Canidate. Notre Dame is bad but not as bad as last year. Michigan State though really should have stepped it up a bit more but emotions can keep other teams in the game.

    FAU @ Minnesota

Minnesota really is looking pretty good so far but they really haven't played a good team yet. FAU will be there toughest opponent to date. The explosive offense will step it up against FAU and ptut some serious points on the board.

FAU play close to Michigan State last week but I am not sure how much the weather affected them. They had a touchdown but it was called back and that really deflated them. Expect more of the same from them.

    FAU 17 Minnesota 43        Actual Score : FAU 3 Minnesota 37

Well, we still haven't learned much about the Gophers other than they can beat the teams they are supposed to beat. One good thing is they at least do it convincingly. Minnesota is head and shoulders above last year's team and that needed to be said. Looking good so far.

    Ohio @ Northwestern

Northwestern is moving right along in their schedule. Getting the wins they need and staying under the radar. This one will be a tough one though. Although they will prevail in the end.

Ohio really took it to OSU and lost a heartbreaker to CMU. Look for these guys to be fired up but to lose another close one.

    Ohio 26 Northwestern 29       Actual Score : Ohio 8 Northwestern 16

Normally, when you double another teams score it's a blowout. Not the case here. I knew this one would be close but didn't realize it would be this low scoring. Right now, Ohio has to be the best 4 loss team in the country. Northwestern struggled with Ohio but what people don't realize is Ohio is an excellent team for their level.

    Troy @ Ohio State

OSU will have their hands full this week. They need to block out last weeks loss and put everything they have into this game. Terrelle Pryor will split time with Boeckman probably 50/50. The offense will continue to struggle do to crappy play calling but when Pryor gets inserted watch the o-line get fired up to protect someone they believe in. Boeckman's days are numbered and Tressel by the end of the year will have started his first ever true freshman at QB.

Troy is one of those teams that play tough and schedule anybody. They run the same offense that destroyed OSU in the last two NCGs. Their offense will give the vanilla OSU defense fits and make the defensive coordinator cry. Troy's defense is based on speed and not size so look for them to be zooming everywhere.

    Troy 35 OSU 37        Actual Score : Troy 10 OSU 28

I'm not sure how I feel about this game. I finally got some recaps of it and saw that OSU was only up 14-10 going into the 4th quarter. On one hand Pryor played well. Not great but better than a freshman should. On the other hand Troy racked up some serious yardage against a veteran defense that was ranked in the top last year. I see the voters also noticed this and OSU slid another rank down to 14. I guess the Senior's just don't give a fuck about this season. OSU had more starting freshman on both sides of the ball since 1978. OSU fans just pray we get to a bowl game unless the Seniors decide to get their shit together.

    Temple @ Penn State

Penn State is just amazing. So far they have made all of their opponents look like clowns and will continue to do so against Temple. I can't say how impressed I am with Penn State they are just "WOW." I can't wait to see them play some tougher teams and see what they can do.

Temple well, welcome to the slaughter. This one will get real ugly real fast.

Temple 7 Penn State 41          Actual Score : Temple 3 Penn State 45

Um, yeah Penn State. Ok, how do I say this nicely. Play someone. The good thing is at least they are blowing away these loser ass no name shit teams. Penn State is easily the number 1 team in the Big Ten but we will have to see how they do against an opponent that is not on life support. Also it's really hard to know how good a team is when they have no chance of losing. We will see how Penn State reacts to being in a close one. So far though they are extremely impressive.

    CMU @ Purdue

Purdue had one hell of a heartbreaker last week. They will bounce back. They see that they have talent and know that they can play with other big teams. This confidence will carry over into this game in a good way.

CMU is a great team for their conference and they always play good ball. I just don't see them hanging with Purdue's offense.

    CMU 31 Purdue 33        Actual Score :  CMU 25 Purdue 32

CMU is another one of these teams that are really good but always seem to be on the losing end. Purdue was down and losing to these guys and showed they have what it takes to play comeback football. I like this win for them. It will build confidence when they go into another fourth quarter and are losing. They will know that they have been there before and came back to win it. Overall a good win for Purdue.

Well, that's it. Hope you guys have been enjoying the season so far. Good luck to all the teams I picked to win. Laters.

Having a hell of a time adding categories DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!

Of note the Big Ten has 4 teams in the top 25 and are easily the 3rd strongest conference based on the AP Top 25 Poll. Wisconsin and Penn State are easily the favorites(as of now)to win the Big Ten. Next week starts up conference play and it will be tough to pick winners this coming week. Laters all and thanks for checking in. OOPS. Almost forgot. I was 6-2 this wek putting my total to 33-6.

Big Ten Predictions Week 3 (Updated)

Tuesday, September 9, 2008, 02:18 PM EST [General]

Well, it's the third week in CFB and this one will undoubtedly be one of the harder weeks to predict. I totally kicked ass last week with 10 right 1 wrong which brings my total to 18 - 3, I think. I'll let someone else figure it out. Enough with the BS on to the predictions!

    Louisiana-Lafayette @ Illinois

Illinois will destroy this team. WTF I am not writing about playing LL.

    Louisiana-Lafayette, more like LoL.

    LL 14 Illinois 51        Actual Score : LL 17 Illinois 20

OK, WTF happened here Illinois. You guys are just damn lucky to have won.

Ball State 17 Indiana 21      Ok, so I fucked up again. I will copy and paste this to next week.

    Iowa State @ Iowa

Iowa has been beating the shit out of every opponent by a huge margin. That comes to an end this Saturday.  This instate rivalry has always been a close battle between both schools no matter what each school has done prior to this. Look to Iowa to take them down though.

Iowa State has been beating down similar opponents that Iowa has faced. It's tough to judge how good Iowa State really is. This game will be their first faltering step.

Iowa State 25 Iowa 37     Actual Score : Iowa State 5 Iowa 17

Thought this one was going to be higher scoring but you never know what kind of game your going to get between these two teams.

    Michigan @ Notre Dame

Michigan just doesn't look good at all this year. Both these teams have been really craptastic as of late and I really don't know who to pick. If they can get RR's spread going ND is done. If not it's going to get ugly. Michigan still has a better defence than Notre Dame so I am going to give them the edge in this one.

Notre Dame just sucks. They looked terrible against SD State who was beat by Cal-Poly. The coach of SD State couldn't even say which team he thought was better between Cal-Poly and Notre Dame. That speaks volumes. Jimmy is going to lose some more hair in this one. Anyone else notice how thin his hair is? He will be bald by 21. I don't even want to get started on Jabba the Weiss. Offensive genius? I don't think so. He is just offensive to look at.

Michigan 28 Notre Dame 10     Actual Score : Michigan 17 Notre Dame 35

Michigan you guys just suck this year. If you can't beat Notre Dame don't expect to beat to many other teams. Everyone knows you are in a down year and are going to take advantage of you.

    Florida Atlantic @ Michigan State

Michigan State picked up the pieces after losing to Cal and are going to continue moving on. Look for them to pour on the scores against FAU.

Florida Atlantic just can't match MSU. Their defense is going to be blown apart by Ringer and this one is going to go badly. They will keep it sort of close though but not really. Watch FAU score one at the end to make it look closer than it was.

Florida Atlantic 23 Michigan State 33    Actual Score : FAU 0 Michigan State 17

The weather came into this one and really changed each teams offense. That advantage goes to MSU with Ringer and it showed.

    Montana State @ Minnesota

Minnesota has surprised everyone by doubling their amount of wins over last season. This week they will triple it. The Gophers are going to score early and often in this one. Nothing like padding the stats baby!

    Montana State who?

Montana State 10 Minnesota 49      Actual Score : Montana State 23 Minnesota 35

Well, Minnesota you now have three times the wins as last year. It is Montana State though.

    Southern Illinois @ Northwestern

Northwestern should be just fine against Southern Illinois. Northwestern is going to really enjoy this one. Lots of defense and lots of offense only for the Wildcats though.

Southern Illinois really doesn't stand much of a chance in this one. I even could have used my "Who?" comment from earlier if I wanted.

Southern Illinois 3 Northwestern 56      Actual Score : Southern Illinois 7 Northwestern 33

Chalk another one up for Northwestern. Looking pretty good so far. Although it was a directional school.

    Ohio State @ USC

Ohio State really looked bad in their last outing. We all know every team is different from week to week but seeing that game just gave me a sinking feeling. I really hope tOSU can step it up and I am sure they will but I just don't think they have enough. There seems to be something in the back of their heads saying they just aren't that good. I hope to fuck I am wrong.

USC totally dominated Virginia from whistle to whistle. USC looked totally amazing in their opener. They have also had an extra week to prepare. Perfect scheduling if you ask me. Also they are at home. They are like 39 out of 40 in the Colliseum. Hopefully they watched the OU/tOSU game are are overly confident. I don't think so. USC always rises up to the big games but like clock work will fall to an under the radar opponent later in the year.

    Ohio State 17 USC 33      Actual Score : OSU 3 tUSC 35

Well, OSU I have removed your T from your name and given it to tUSC because you played, looked, and did pretty much everything like shit. I knew you guys were going to lose but damn couldn't you have kept it close? I still love you guys but you are missing heart, soul and a killer swagger. Most of you Seniors are playing just good enough to get drafted and that's it. Tressel, get with the times dude. Right now OSU is playing not to lose. Damn it, you need to play to win!

    Penn State @ Syracuse

Penn State has been absolutely dominating. This won't change this week against a really terrible Syracuse. Penn State might even put 70 up on the board.

Syracuse WTF happened to this program. Maybe you guys should just drop down to the FCS?

Penn State 69 Syracuse 9    Actual Score : Penn State 55 Syracuse 13

Yeah, pretty much what I expected. Penn State looks scary good. Easily the favorite along with Wisconsin to win the Big Ten.

    Oregon @ Purdue

Purdue has looked really good again early on this season. Is this the loss they take that sends them spiralling down out of control? Simply put no. They will lose but they will recover. This loss is actually a good loss. It will keep them focused for the rest of the season. They will hang with Oregon and keep it very close but in the end just won't have what it takes to win.

Oregon has looked great so far this season. Then again Washington and Utah State aren't really known for their football programs anymore. I believe Oregon will out last Purdue by scoring first and scoring last.

    Oregon 38 Purdue 34     Actual Score : Oregon 32 Purdue 26

Damn, tough loss Purdue. You really stuck with this team and gave it your all. I was really pulling for you but like I predicted you just wouldn't have enough to handle Oregon.

    Wisconsin @ Fresno State

Wisconsin really seems to start off slowly and then just wear there opponents down. They won't be able to do that against Fresno State. If they want to win this one they need to be the ones starting off with quick scores. That being said Wisconin are big, tough corn bred mother fuckers and will be ready for this one. It's going to be strength, stamina and size vs. scrappyness and speed. Going to give the edge to Wisconsin for stamina. These boys like to wear you down and take it to you when your tired.

Fresno State has looked good. I mean really good. The one thing that will help them stay in this game is that they are at home. They have a great chance of beating the Badgers if they can score enough points in the first half to out last the second half run Wisconsin likes to do. I think from the first play off the line of scrimmage though that Wisconsin is going to hit them in the mouth and Fresno State will be surprised how tough and big these Badgers are. Sorry Fresno State it's just not happening this week.

Wisconsin 45 Fresno State 31          Actual Score : Wisconsin 13 Fresno State 10

What an awesome game to watch. Not a lot of scoring but it was great to watch two teams slug it out. I guess Fresno State is for real when they say anyone, anywhere. Great win for the Badgers one of the other favorites to win the Big Ten.

Well, thats it for this week. Hope everyone enjoyed the read. Also, I respond to all comments but I have noticed that even if you subscribe to a thread you don't always get notified of a new post. So check back often I am sure this week will be a shit load of talk about Oregon/Purdue, OSU/USC, Wisconsin/Fresno State.

On a personal note I love my Buckeyes and had to pick against them due to trying to be un-biased. Hopefully I did come off un-biased. Now for my "homer" prediction OSU 33 USC 30. Woot!!! Go Big Ten do your best this week.

Alright, this BS is updated. Big Ten took quite a beating but hey at least we are not the Pac 1. I was 9-1 (leave it to Michigan to fuck up a perfect weekend for me) for this weekend and that puts my total to 27-4 for my picks. Son of a bitch I am on a roll.
