Cowboys, Class, and Owens

[Dallas Cowboys]
I've been reading some sportswriters and bloggers (specifically Cowboys' fans) and thinking about what they have to say. I too am suspicious of this signing and am afraid of what the future holds. But I mean come on! Don't get me wrong. Owens doesn't have any class. And I hate him! I will never be a T.O. fan (but I'll always be a Cowboys fan regardless). But what class is there to lose?
So many are writing about how the Cowboys teams of the past had "class" and "dignity" and that T.O. will ruin that. First of all, class is subjective. When Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson said that Terry Bradshaw "couldn't spell cat if you spotted him the C and the T" that wasn't very classy (and completely irrelevant). When Cowboys players of the '70's would give each other highfives on the way to the endzone that wasn't very classy. When Michael Irvin would snort crack off of a hookers hipbone that wasn't classy either.
All this talk of the Cowboys losing their class is a lie. Players have class, or don't. Teams reflect that and it changes over time. So Owens insulted his teammates, that means the Cowboys lose class? Personally, I thought that would've been when half their team, including star wide receiver Michael Irvin, were occupying cell block D.
Many of the same fans who believe T.O. is classless and will ruin the Cowboys were eargerly defending Michael Irvin recently when his "friend's" pipe was found in his car. Why so quick to forgive Michael Irvin (who had multiple convictions of drug possession) while they condemn Owens? I think I know why. Michael Irvin caught touchdown passess for their TEAM; Michael Irvin has won Super Bowls for their TEAM.
So how will the "classless" Owens been recieved in Texas Stadium for the Home opener? Some will boo; hell, if I was going to be there I may well have been one of them. Some will stop clapping. Some will cheer more vigorously.
But let me guarantee you one thing. Those fans, no matter their initial reaction, will cheer when Owens scores his first touchdown. And as the touchdown passess and the wins rack up, maybe, just maybe those same fans who forgave criminals for the sake of their TEAM, will forgive Owens. And maybe I will too.
After all, winning cures everything...
