I am going to start off by admitting that I have never liked Jay Cutler. Ever since he was entering the draft and those comparisons to Brett Farve started he just rubbed me the wrong way. Now I've found out that he is like Farve in the way he carries himself. The problem is unlike Farve he has no resume to back him up. What has this guy accomplished on the football field? Well let me break it down for you, he amassed an incredible sum of 11 wins over the course of his 4 years as a starter at Vanderbilt. Now some people will counter with the fact that Vanderbilt has a terrible football program which is true. Next he moved into the NFL as a high draft pick signing a 48 million dollar contract. After sitting behind the immortal Jake Plummer for 11 games he took over a 7-4 Broncos team which had gone to the AFC Championship the year before. He led the Broncos to a 9-7 overall record and the Broncos missed the playoffs entirely. The next season he led them to a 7-9 record, and last year piloted them to 8-8. So where does this QB rank with his 17-20 career record and his 1.46 TD-Int ratio? According to Jay Cutler somewhere between Tom Brady and Joe Montana.
Where does this man get the nerve to demand a trade. With all of the longtime stars who have been cut this offseason like Derrick Brooks, Marvin Harrison, Torry Holt, and Orlando Pace who all have Superbowl rings Jay Cutler feels like he was betrayed because his new bosses whom he has proven nothing to felt they could get a better QB. Maybe if Josh McDaniels hadn't see you get wrecked by the Patiots in October to the tune of 47-7 he would have more faith in you. Or maybe had you won one of those final 3 games that would have taken you to the playoffs. Or if your greatest clutch win wasn't a result of a blown call by the referee.
People say that Denver's defense was terrible and that is true. However, the great QB's don't need excuses. Peyton Manning could lead the Colts consistently to 12-4 with a defense that was just as bad as Denver's. Tom Brady led the Patriots to the AFC title game with a group of #4 wide receivers. Hell, even Matt Ryan led BC to the ACC championship game without a receiver who could run a 4.6 40 time. The fact of the matter is the only people who are untradable are legends with superbowl rings at the top of their games, and Jay Cutler is not one of them. Frankly, throughout his whole career the Broncos have shown faith in him. Since he hasn't repaid them you would think the least he could do would be to act like a professional, but no he had to act like this.
So the Broncos seem to be backed into a corner, and McDaniels may be a lame duck coach before he even coaches in a game. I hope that Cutler gets what he deserves, and is traded to a team like San Francisco or Detroit where he can't sit behind one of the leagues best lines. I hope he is exposed as the gutless hack that he really is. Or better yet the Broncos let him sit out and hand the job to Chris Simms. Hopefully, Simms can take the Broncos to the playoffs and Cutler's career in the NFL can rot away unless he learns to just play football.
