Welcome to the first annual FOX bloggers NFL draft. Each team is represented by a blogger and in most cases a fan picking for their franchise. The quotes are excerpts from the blogger(s) who has selected that player. There were no trades and we basically made it through 3 rounds.
#1 Houston (chosen by Northsider): With the first pick in the 2006 NFL draft the Texans select ... Reggie Bush, Running Back from the University of Southern California. "I'm forced to take Reggie Bush with the intent on trading him for offensive line talent or ... putting him out as a receiver and run a three receiver set."
#2 New Orleans (chosen by TTBoy2000): D'Brickashaw "Brick" Ferguson, Offensive Tackle from the University of Virginia. "We need help at tackle ... having traded Gandy."
#3 Tennessee (chosen by Pipsy): Matthew Leinart, Quarterback from the University of Southern California. "He is the best fit reunited with Norm Chow."
#4 NY Jets (chosen by Thumper15): "Super" Mario Williams, Defensive End from North Carolina State University. "The loss of Abraham and Mangini's defensive background would have them take an impact player (and phenomenal athlete) on defense... Williams is the guy."
#5 Green Bay (chosen by cuziffer): A.J. Hawk, Linebacker from Ohio State University. "[the Packers] need help at linebacker, and he should step in from day 1 to provide stability along with Nick Barnett at the position."
#6 San Francisco (chosen by MrNFL): DeMeco Ryans, Linebacker from the University of Alabama. "The 49ers have no linebackers without Julian Peterson and Jamie Winborn...Ulbrich and that is it. They need a linebacker to build a D, and Ryans is it."
#7 Oakland (chosen by DJ_BoTaks): Vince "VY" Young, Quarterback from the University of Texas. "With the nightmarish PSL season ticket situation in the rear view mirror this is the pick most likely to put butts back into the Coliseum seats."
#8 Buffalo (chosen by patmoran2006): Vernon Davis, Tight End from the University of Maryland. "He's TOO good to pass up. I'm going to ... utilize multiple TEs. Davis is big and he's faster than most WRs... I can also split him out wide."
#9 Detroit (chosen by lionsman57): Michael Huff, Defensive Back from the University of Texas. "This kid can play both S and CB spots where the Lions need some help at and he's going to bring his 'A' game to Detroit."
#10 Arizona (chosen by tkesaint521): Winston Justice, Offensive Tackle from the University of Southern California. "The Cards have more than enough weapons offensively. Warner may only have a limited time left at QB, but his time can be significantly lengthened with more protection than he has had."
#11 St. Louis (chosen by JRStocker): Jimmy Williams, Defensive Back from Virginia Tech. "I wanted a DB that could play both CB and S. This is that guy ... he can step in and make a difference this year."
#12 Cleveland (chosen by justrandy): Haloti Ngata, Defensive Tackle from the University of Oregon. "This 2 gap plugger may never generate much pass rush... however, he is adept at controlling the run... he will get his fair share of snaps in a rotation."
#13 Baltimore (chosen by hillhubbo30): DeAngelo Williams, Running Back from the University of Memphis. "Although the Ravens signed Mike Anderson and ... Jamal ... both backs have way too many similarities. Since Chester Taylor left ... that doesn't leave us with a smooth, swift runner... Adding Williams means some more speed instead of power."
#14 Philadelphia (chosen by ShooterB): Chad Greenway, Linebacker from the University of Iowa. "Won't be quite the impact linebacker that Hawk will be, but he's solid."
#15 Denver (chosen by broncogirl): Marcus McNeill, Offensive Tackle from the University of Auburn. "Helped Auburn to an undefeated season in 2004 and helped pave the way for Ronnie Brown and Carnell 'Cadillac' Williams."
#16 Miami (chosen by dolfansonline): Donte Whitner, Safety from Ohio State University. "The Dolphins need at safety is ... critical ... at this point, and with no 2nd round pick this is a case where ... need surpasses picking the best player available."
#17 Minnesota (chosen by Wisconsin_Viking & Johhnystorm): Ernie Sims, Linebacker from Florida State University. "A great cover 2 linebacker [in] the mold of Derrick Brooks... an instant playmaker [on] defense."
#18 Dallas (chosen by DatStar & Dudski): Jay Cutler, Quarterback from Vanderbilt University. "There is no way [to] pass on a quarterback of the future. He has a great arm, toughness, intelligence and will become the next great Cowboys quarterback."
#19 San Diego (chosen by tzirn): Chad Jackson, Wide Receiver from the University of Florida. "He is the best WR in the draft. Great hands, good speed and size."
#20 Kansas City (chosen by NeoAC): Ashton Youboty, Cornerback from Ohio State University. "It's time ... to get some young blood in the secondary to go with Julian Battle. Youbouty will fit the bill nicely."
#21 New England (chosen by The_Dan): Tye Hill, Cornerback from Clemson University. "The Patriots need to solidify depth in the backfield and Hill can provide that."
#22 Denver (chosen by broncogirl): LenDale White, Running back from the University of Southern California. "Need to find a RB to replace Mike Anderson... and I know LenDale White personally."
#23 Tampa Bay (chosen by CaptainFourEyes): Santonio Holmes, Wide Receiver from Ohio State University. "Joey Galloway [isn't] getting any younger and Michael Clayton struggled last season."
#24 Cincinnati (chosen by cuziffer because there are no Bungle blogger fans): Leonard Pope, Tight End from the University of Georgia. "Provides another offensive weapon for the passing game, particularly over the middle, as well as another big body to provide extra protection for Carson Palmer."
#25 NY Giants (chosen JRStocker via his G-Men fan brother-in-law): Bobby Carpenter, Linebacker from Ohio State University. "Too good a player to pass up ... this is one of the last linebackers on the baord that could make a big impact. The Giants need one and this ... fills the need."
#26 Chicago (chosen by MustardMan): Marcedes Lewis, Tight End from the University of California-Los Angeles. "This ... will be a welcome addition to the anemic passing game by opening up patterns in the middle ... He has deceptive speed."
#27 Carolina (chosen by tzirn with blessing of runwithscissors): Laurence Maroney, Running Back from Minnesota. "With Davis gone and Foster unable to stay healthy for an extended period of time, Maroney was the guy ... none of the TEs left are worthy of a 1st round pick."
#28 Jacksonville (chosen by spartansrock!!!!!!!): Eric Winston, Offensive Tackle from the University of Miami-Florida.
#29 NY Jets (chosen by Norcalfella, subbing for Thumper15): Nick Mangold, Center from Ohio State University. "Stepping into their owner's shoes the choices were many. Any number of corners would help after Law ended his 1 year stay, and while OLB is another need I think this is the most pressing 'can't wait' pick."
#30 Indianapolis (chosen by Philliez01): Joseph Addai, Running Back from Louisiana State University. "The triple threat they lost in Edgerrin James ... strong pass-protection blocking, receiving and cutback ability ... best back the Colts can take. He may lack the hoome run threat, but that was one of the criticisms of James when he came out in 1999."
#31 Seattle (chosen by sleeplessinseattle): Mathias "Kiwi" Kiwanuka, Defensive End from Boston College.
#32 Pittsburgh (chosen by tm85): Darnell Bing, Safety from the University of Southern California. "Chris Hope is gone ... could come in and start right now. He's a winner, played on a successful team and knows exactly what it means to perform in the big games."
ROUND 2
#33 Houston (chosen by bweldon): Jonathan Joseph, Cornerback from the University of South Carolina. "[The Texans] need a third corner since it looks at this time that Buchanon is a flop ... it also gives us some solid depth at the position."
#34 New Orleans (chosen by TTBoy2000): Abdul Hodge, Linebacker from Iowa.
#35 NY Jets (chosen by Thumper15): Kelly Jennings, Cornerback from the University of Miami, Florida. "... thrilled to find him still on the board ... small, but has 48 games under his belt with a good team. His man to man skills and experience stood out at the Senior Bowl."
#36 Green Bay (chosen by cuziffer): Max Jean-Gilles, Offensive Guard from the University of Georgia. "Another probable rookie starter ... should help the interior of the offensive line ... considering the lousy play of that group last year and the loss of Mike Flanagan to free agency."
#37 San Francisco (chosen by MrNFL): Sinorice Moss, Wide Receiver from the University of Miami, Florida. "The 49ers have no receiving corps after getting rid of Lloyd ... no offensive weapons to speak of."
#38 Oakland (chosen by Norcalfella): Broderick Bunkley, Defensive Tackle from Florida State University. "Great value here as Bunkley has recently risen up draft boards ... fills a big need ... and should line up next to Warren Sapp in Week 1. Biggest steal since the Louisiana Purchase."
#39 Tennessee (chosen by Pipsy): Maurice Stovall, Wide Receiver from Notre Dame. "The Titans did sign David Givens, but Tyrone 'stone hands' Calico is probably in his last year ... and how could they pass up a 6'5" receiver? They need more depth ... and his size adds flexibility in the red zone where they struggled last year."
#40 Detroit (chosen by lionsman57): Antonio Cromartie, Cornerback from Florida State University.
#41 Arizona (chosen by tkesaint521): Anthony Fasano, Tight End from the University of Notre Dame.
#42 Buffalo (chosen by Norcalfella & DatStar on behalf of patmoran2006): Manny Lawson, Defensive End from North Carolina State University. "Getting into the mind of Pat and his Bills, it would be easy to take a corner if fewer were off the board or an offensive lineman. However, this is a better long term option because the value is there. Another ACC addition to help them rebuild."
#43 Cleveland (chosen by justrandy): D'Quell Jackson, Linebacker from Maryland University. "Drafting for need ... gives the Browns a fiery, complementary player to Andra Davis with room to grow."
#44 Baltimore (chosen by DrCrab): Derek Hagan, Wide Receiver from Arizona State University. "Has the size, skill and polish to immediately complement Derrick Mason (and they have the same first name ... sort of)."
#45 Philadelphia (chosen by ShooterB): Daryn Colledge, Offensive Tackle from Boise State University.
#46 St. Louis (chosen by JRStocker): Davin Joseph, Offensive Guard from Oklahoma. "The Rams have had a variety of interior linemen in the past few years. Timmerman is getting old ... you can't have a good offense without a solid o-line. The Rams have one of the best offensive tackles in the game today in Pace, now it's time to get some guys on the interior."
#47 Atlanta Falcons (chosen by dolfansonline and NeoAC): Andrew Whitworth, Offensive Tackle from Louisiana State University. "They lost both Kevin Shaffer and Barry Stokes in free agency, and although they did get Wayne Gandy from the Saints, he's going to be 36 when the season starts."
#48 Minnesota (chosen by JohhnyStorm): Ryan O'Callaghan, Offensive Tackle from the University of California at Berkeley. "I think he'll complement McKinnie on the O-line ... awesome size and can dominate game. The Vikes need a right tackle ... guys they have like Rosenthal aren't going to get it done."
#49 Dallas (chosen DatStar): Jason Allen, Safety from the University of Tennessee. "He is a prototype free safety: a good tackler, great ball skills and a great competitor."
#50 San Diego (chosen by tzirn): Gabriel Watson, Defensive Tackle from the University of Michigan. "The Chargers need some big help on the (interior) defensive line, the ends played fairly well. With Watson clogging up the middle, this defense just got a whole lot stronger."
#51 Minnesota (chosen by Wisconsin_Viking): Ko Simpson, Safety from the University of South Carolina. "With Offord's DWI situation, the Vikings are better off moving in another direction to provide competion for free agent acquisition Tank Williams." #52 New England (chosen by The_Dan): Pat Watkins, Safety from Florida State University. "At 6-4 and 4.4 speed, I now have the heir apparent to Rodney Harrison who will groom this athletic kid to become a lethal force in the backfield. He will also do some special teams as well as potentially some wide receiver ... coach Belichick loves to play around with creative ideas." #53 Washington (chosen by DrCrab): Richard Marshall, Cornerback from Fresno State University. "I actually saw a Fresno State game this year (no it wasn't v. USC) and Marshall looked pretty good... the Redskins need help in the secondary now that they released Walt Harris ... #25 on Mel's 'Big Board'. Good enough for me." #54 Kansas City (chosen by Philliez01 with NeoAC's blessing): Tamba Hali, Defensive End from Penn State University. "They need a 1-2 punch alongside Jared Allen and Hali is the best D-line prospect at this point." #55 Cincinnati (chosen by cuziffer): Roger McIntosh, Linebacker from the University of Miami-Florida. "Adding depth to the linebacking corps." #56 NY Giants (chosen by JRStocker): Cedric Griffin, Cornerback from the University of Texas. "With the departure of Allen they need another corner. Plus he has the size to be a safety ... had 86 tackles last season." #57 Chicago (chosen by Norcalfella with blessing of MustardMan): Danieal Manning, Cornerback from Abilene Christian. "In a corner rich draft he brings size to the table and a bit of intimidation to the table, which suits this defense. As a small school guy he also has experience on special teams and can make an immediate impact there." #58 Carolina (chosen by tzirn): Joe Klopfenstein, Tight End from Colorado. "Great hands and plenty of speed to complement Steve Smith." #59 Tampa Bay (chosen by NeoAC): Daniel Bullocks, Safety from the University of Nebraska. "If you look through their [roster] options ... none of those names really stand out ... Phillips is the most likely starter ... a free safety would be a welcome addition ... listed as a strong safety, but is a very good athlete. His twin has thrived in New Orleans after being drafted last year." #60 Jacksonville (chosen by spartansrock!!!!!!!): Thomas Howard, Linebacker from the University of Texas-El Paso. #61 Denver (chosen by broncogirl): Devin Aromashodu, Wide Receiver from the University of Auburn. #62 Indianapolis (chosen by Philliez01): Terna Nande, Linebacker from the University of Miami-Ohio. #63 Seattle (chosen by sleeplessinseattle): Kamerion Wimbley, Defensive End from Florida State. #64 Pittsburgh (chosen by RJPitt): Martin Nance, Wide Receiver from the University of Miami-Ohio. "The Steelers have a hole to fill at WR and Nance is a physical presence (will need to block) with good hands. Plus, he was Ben's favorite target in 2003 at Miami-Ohio." Round 3 #65 Houston (chosen by bweldon): Tatsui Lutui, Offensive Guard from the University of Southern California. "Can play either guard spot and could possibly slide to right tackle." #66 Houston (chosen by bweldon): Jeremy Trueblood, Offensive Tackle from Boston College. "This takes care of 3/5ths of their line for the future with Drew Hodgdon at center from last year's draft ... Trueblood is projected as a possible left tackle." #67 Green Bay (chosen by cuziffer): Jonathan Orr, Wide Receiver from Wisconsin. "He has good size for the NFL, ran a 4.44 ... and has good hands. The Packers, even though they need o-line help and more defense, also need WR help with the unknown future of Javon Walker, the uncertainty of [tight end] Bubba Franks after an injury riddled '05 season, and the release of Terrence Murphy after failing a physical (neck injury)." #68 San Francisco (chosen by MrNFL): Brian Calhoun, Running Back from the University of Wisconsin. "Kevan Barlow is terrible, Maurice Hicks is inconsistent, and who knows if Frank Gore will amount to anything." #69 Oakland (chosen by DJ_BoTaks): Roderick Wright, Defensive Tackle from the University of Texas. "VY can feel right at home in practice with his college teammate trying to rip his head off. Even with Bunkley on board in round 2, this would give the team two pieces to the defensive line that has been a weakness in year's past and just lost both Washington and Jasper." #70 Buffalo (chosen by patmoran2006): Claude Wroten, DefensiveTackle from Louisiana State University. #71 NY Jets (chosen by Thumper15): Maurice Drew, Running Back from the University of California-Los Angeles. "With Curtis Martin aging and Blaylock looking very normal in relief last season, the Jets choose to address the RB of the future. Drew is a dangerous runner in the open field and has the ability to make big plays when he gets the ball out in space. Will be used as a punt returner while being groomed." #72 Arizona (chosen by tkesaint521): Marcus Vick, Quarterback from Virginia Tech. "Everyone wanted Cutler... here's a ... better value and probably more potential as well. If he doesn't work out there is always next year's draft." #73 Buffalo (chosen by patmoran2006): Rob Sims, Offensive Guard from Ohio State University. #74 Detroit (chosen by lionsman57): Jonathan Scott, Offensive Tackle from the University of Texas. #75 New England (chosen by The_Dan): Leon Williams, Linebacker from the University of Miami-Florida. "Pats would like depth at LB plus you cannot go wrong with the NFL minor leagues." #76 Philadelphia (chosen by ShooterB): Jonathan Lewis, Defensive Tackle from Virginia Tech. "[The Eagles] need a DT." #77 St. Louis (chosen by JRStocker): Mark Anderson, Defensive End from the University of Alabama. "Little is an incredible player, but he isn't getting any younger ... Hargrove just doesn't look like he can handle the load by himself ... Maybe in a few years [Anderson] develops enough to be a replacement for Little ... and he should get all the good mentoring he needs to be a solid player." #78 Cleveland (chosen by justrandy): Charles Spencer, Offensive Guard from the University of Pittsburgh. "First round talent ... would fit in nicely with with Phil Savage is trying to do and that's build and groom an eventual replacement to Andruzzi or Coleman." #79 Atlanta (chosen by dolfansonline): Demetrius Williams, Wide Receiver from the University of Oregon. "Another WR for Vick ... this is the BPA at the position at this point." #80 Dallas (chosen by DatStar): Gerris Wilkinson, Linebacker from the Georgia Tech University. NOTE: Ahmad Brooks is in the supplemental draft and that was his original choice. #81 San Diego (chosen by tzirn): Will Blackmon, Cornerback from Boston College University. "Good size and good speed, best corner there plus has the ability to return kicks. Should be able to possibly compete for a starting position." #82 Miami (borrowing a pick from patmoran2006's draft, analysis from Norcalfella): Greg Jennings, Wide Receiver from Western Michigan University. "His stock is rising as we speak and he provides them with an instant special teams performer." #83 Minnesota (chosen by Johhnystorm): Demetrius Summers, Running Back from the University of South Carolina. "Fast and should add some depth to the Vikings' backfield which was thinned out by the departures of Onterrio Smith and Michael Bennett." #84 San Francisco (chosen by MrNFL): Brandon Williams, Wide Receiver from the University of Wisconsin. #85 Kansas City (chosen by NeoAC): Brodie Croyle, Quarterback from the University of Alabama. "Trent Green is an excellent QB, but he is going to be 36 at the start of this season ... behind him they have ... Huard, a career backup ... Kilian, a 7th round pick ... Printers an ex-CFL star ... Croyle had a great year ... He's got a cannon for an arm ... should excel in a couple of years." #86 New England (chosen by The_Dan): Gerald Riggs Jr., Running Back from the University of Tennessee. "It's time to take a RB ... the Pats need a guy who can help out Dillon. If he's better than dad, he'll be A-ok." #87 NY Giants (chosen by Norcalfella based on fan opinion): John McCargo, Defensive Tackle from North Carolina State University. "The third domino of the Wolfpack D-line drops. Playing between two quality ends was familiar to him in college and he gets the same luxury on the G-Men." #88 Carolina (chosen by tzirn): Jon Alston, Linebacker from Stanford University. #89 Carolina (chosen by tzirn): Todd Watkins, Wide Receiver from Brigham Young University. "Doesn't have excellent hands, but can blow by most defenders... good route runner." #90 Tampa Bay (chosen by CaptainFourEyes): Omar Jacobs, Quarterback from Bowling Green University. "Insurance for Simms and MAC quarterbacks succeed in the NFL ... in his second year he threw 41 touchdown passes and only 4 interceptions in Division 1-A. That's impressive." #91 Cincinnati (chosen by Norcalfella's Bengal connection in Canada): Darryl Tapp, Defensive End/Tackle from Florida State University. "With plenty of talent behind them at linebacker, they need a solid addition to the front line. He is a great value here." #92 Jacksonville (chosen by Norcalfella based on guru draft and need): Dominique Byrd, Tight End from the University of Southern California. "Last year they decided against a strict tight end, instead opting for combine freak Matt Jones. This time they add another target to Leftwich's arsenal that is sorely needed." #93 Denver (chosen by tzirn for broncogirl): Bernard Pollard, Safety from Purdue University. #94 Indianapolis (chosen by Philliez01): Kevin Boothe, Offensive Guard from Cornell. #95 Seattle (chosen by Norcalfella for sleeplessinseattle): Spencer Havner, Linebacker from the University of California-Los Angeles. "Quite simply, too much value to pass on." #96 Pittsburgh (chosen by Norcalfella): Greg Eslinger, Center from the University of Minnesota. "They love to stock up on blockers." #97 NY Jets (chosen by Norcalfella): Charlie Whitehurst, Quarterback from Clemson University. "A better value option for them."
Again, this was a look at what bloggers would have liked to see happen for various teams. After this weekend we will see how many teams agreed with the bloggers. Down the line we can take a look back and compare NFL GM vs. FOX blogger.
