Now for the most attractive, desired teams in the world or at least in La Liga. No one expect Athletico or Sevilla to go any further thne the quarters to be fair, all hope is strongly placed on the shoulders on Real Madrid and Barca. La Liga has once again become a 2 league team with 18 other teams that have secondary goals. So lets start off with the current European Champions....BARCELONA!
FCB: The Nou Camp was last years biggest stage, by far. Barca went on to win the Primera Division as if they were playing in Englands Championship. Barcelona are stock piled with a great offensive artillery all starting with the midfield. Xavi and Iniesta are the two great Spainish Matadors that can conquer any defense in the world. Last year they were the most impressive duo in the world. A foward line with Messi, Henry(who is getting old), and Eto'o(who might be on his way out) provides constant pressure and pain for any defense in the world. But like all great teams Barca has a back line that is so over looked. Danny Alves is considered to be one of the top 2 RB's in the world. Carlos Puyol, Marquez, Pique and Abidal are all names that could play on any team in Europe. Goaltender Victor Valdes was the hero on many occasions last European term(remember the save against Drogba at the Nou Camp.) Coach Pep... well he inherited a team similar to Jose Mourinho with great winners, and found a way to make things work. Rumors have been spread that this will be his last year managing Barca, because he is unhappy with upper management and the Serie A may be his next destination.
Confidence Level: 4.2. Furthest: winners
Real Madrid: The Santiago Bernabau will host the 2009-2010 UCL final. How special would it be for Real to reach the final and win(over Barca!) Real Madrid have a team that is capable of every major honor, but...I am not sold on their defense. Pepe is to weak a CB for me to win the UCL, Albiol is moving into a new team, Heinze and Ramos are good but not amoung the elite of the UCL teams. This will be why Real dont win the UCL. They dont have the D equal to Inter, Barca, MUFC, CFC or Pool. They will have to outscore teams and in football, your defense is everything. But that offense really is explosive being led by midfielder and player of the year Ronaldo, last years player of the year Kaka, Diarra, Robben, Gago, Snjneider..so much depth. The strikers Raul and Benzema overshadow Higuain who scored 23 goals and only 1 from a penalty last year. Real have Manuel Pelligrini leading the charge and he will not deal with nonscence in the camp, be sure to see a focused Real Madrid almost every game. BTW: 52 goals conceded in La Liga last year!!!
Confidence Level: 5.1! Furthest: winners
Sevilla: Sevilla are a team capable of reaching the quarters but not a team capable of winning the UCL. Sevilla HAVE A WEAK OFFENSE only SCORING 54 GOALS IN LA LIGA LAST YEAR! Not enough to win the UCL. They are led by Kanoute and Fabiano(who will be at Milan), which is to weak an offense to win. A midfield with Romaric, Coriera,Dusher and Navas are ultimately second or third rate names in this ELITE European Competition. As I said the D was impressive led by Squillaci and Escude. Coach Jimenez did a good job leading them to 3rd last year in La Liga, but they are no better then AC Milan or or Bayern.
Confidence Level: 6 Furthest: quarters
Athletico: The complete opposite of Sevilla!!! They have conceded the most amount of any goals of the La Liga teams entering the UCL. Finishing 4h they are the weak link of the Spainsh Primera teams and have almost no shot at winning the UCL. There 80 goals scored is impressive, but as highly unimpressive ast he 57 conceded. They are led by young Serigo Aguero and superstar Diego Forlan. Two players that can be deadly with any mistake made. A midfield led by wingers Maxi Rodriguez and Simao, Athletic will score goals. But... like I said they will give up more. Ufalushi is the only solid back they have and he is 32. Enough said!!! Coach Resino is looking at a very eary exit.
Confidence Level: 6.5 furthest: quarters( need a great draw)
