    Inter-League Play: What's Your Take?

Monday, May 14, 2007, 12:37 PM EST [MLB, Major League Baseball, Br]

Inter-league play rears its head again this weekend.  This annual event (along with the inclusion of the DH) is one of the most hotly debated topics in the game.

I personally enjoy seeing the hitter-pitcher matchups that won't appear in the post-season anytime soon (trades and free agency excepted, of course). This weekend, we'll get to watch strikeout king James Shields of the Devil Rays take on the "swing from the heels" Marlins. The Rangers take their big bats to Houston. Doesn't the thought of Roy Oswalt going after Mark Teixeira, Sammy Sosa and company intrigue you? Or perhaps seeing the Royals visit Colorado to jumpstart Alex Gordon's bat?

I do agree with Chipper Jones's comments from the weekend, as there is something that needs to be done with the scheduling. The true rivalry matchups make for great drama and television coverage (Chicago, Los Angeles and New York), as do some of the others (the Braves-Red Sox series, in particular). But some of the other matchups are forced and create a competitive imbalance. While the Mets, Braves and Phillies (Blue Jays) take on more imposing opponents, the Devil Rays take on the Marlins and the Orioles play the woeful Nationals.

Should we go division against division and pair up the remaining teams with a rotation process? How would you fix it?
