As expected, the Jaguars and Bengals went defense with picks No. 8 and No. 9.
The Jaguars take Derrick Harvey from Florida - think they watched him a lot on Saturdays while in the office? Again, Harvey is 6-foot-4, 262 pounds, a player who can be a big-time player off of the edge. The Jaguars have shuffled a lot of pieces around on defense, so this makes perfect sense.
The Bengals took Keith Rivers from USC. They lost David Pollack, who will retire following a neck injury that has sidelined him. They get Odell Thurman back in the mix, so adding another piece is key. It was too early to take a wide receiver to address the loss of Chris Henry and the whole Ocho Cinco thing, but they'll circle back on that later.
I love the Patriots' selection of Jerod Mayo. The linebacking corps is strong, but aging. Now, you bring in a big-time player who excelled against top competition in the SEC to learn under them. Just phenomenal. Mayo will be a beast.
