A couple of solid deals that have already gone through and more and more will continue to happen leading up to the trade deadline.
-The Phoenix Coyotes traded Left Wing Ladislav Nagy to the Dallas Stars for Left Wing Mathias Tjarnqvist and a first-round draft pick.
This was a great move for the Coyotes as Nagy was going to leave via free agency after this year any way. Nagy is one of those players that has a tremendous amount of talent and is a great player when he wants to be. I think going to a Stanley Cup contender will help his work ethic and if that happens, the Stars got a great rental player. If Dallas can't resign him, they paid a hefty price with that first round pick for a rental player. All in all though, it was a solid move by both sides.
-The Calgary Flames acquired Defensemen Brad Stuart and Forward Wayne Primeau from the Boston Bruins in exchange for Defensemen Andrew Ference, Forward Chuck Kobasew and a Conditional Draft Pick.
The Joe Thornton trade has officially gone down in my book as one of the worst trades ever made for the Boston Bruins. The Bruins earned themselves two players that they have just traded away in Stuart and Primeau and once Marco Sturm gets traded, the Bruins will have gotten nothing long term that they can plug into the massive hole at center that was left by Joe Thornton. In the mean time, the San Jose Sharks are a playoff contender and should be laughing about this trade by now if they weren't from the beginning. Stuart lives in the province of Alberta and will get to go play for the team he grew up watching. He should provide a great presence on the blue line for the Flames come playoff season. Primeau is a very good third line center and will provide depth at that position for the Flames playoff run. Boston gets two serviceable players in Ference and Kobasew and a draft pick that could move up if either player resigns with Calgary. The Bruins will need to continue to build through the draft in order to solve their problems in goal and on defense.
