"Once in a blue moon." That basically means "rarely." Or "probably never."

So this Saturday, as we begin week three of college football, there are some things that we may see or hear we aren't expecting- things that happen once in a blue moon.

I'm not counting on these things to happen, but then again, Mine That Bird, Appalachian State, Caster Semenya, Juan Martin Del Porto, Kanye West and yes, even that Virginia Cavalier mascot (google it on Youtube.com) give me hope that some things don't need a blue moon for them to happen.

Maybe these will happen? Nah.

We all know Urban Meyer isn't a fun guy- he's a drill sergeant in blue and orange. So color us a bit stunned when this picture of Meyer appeared on Sports Illustrated's August 9th cover.

Apparently, we are not the only ones shocked.

"That has to be the most ridiculous cover photo ever,"  Tim Tebow told the Gainesville Sun. "How'd they convince him to do that?"

We don't know Tim. It's up to your Superman powers to figure this one out, but your coach, of course, blamed the photographer.

"The guy took like 20 pictures, and at the end, he said, 'Hey, just one time, can you take a picture with your glasses?'" Meyer said with a smile. "I said, 'No, I'm not doing it.' He said, 'C'mon, it's just for me.' 'OK, one picture.'"

"And that's the one they used."

Suuuuuuuuure, coach.

Now don't

This is a series focusing on must-see games to watch early in the college football season. One of the first must-see games is Virginia Tech v Alabama @Atlanta on September 5th.

The spread isn't out yet, but it will probably have the Crimson Tide favored by 3-5 points, which is strange in itself because I'm betting the Hokies are ranked higher preseason than the Tide. Go figure.

So OK, here we go with the deconstruction of the game.

Offense

The Tide lost its all-time passing leader in John Parker Wilson -- 57.9%, 10-8 ratio LY -- but his leadership abilities and familiarity of the offense/team mates are causes for concern more than anything else. Greg McElroy appears to be the starter for the Tide, and although he had a great spring and summer, throwing spirals at moving targets

There comes a time in the year when rules must be posted. Just as it is customary to send out wedding invitations six weeks prior to the event (and thank you Kevin Paul, I got yours in the mail on time!), it is also customary to set forth rules in a household that watches football.

Children need to re-trained and re-brainwashed when it comes to the do's and don'ts of allowable activities around a high-definition big screen. Grandpa's chair needs to be moved back to the corner, and all snack trays must be checked to see if they are in working order.

It's 56 days until the first college football (FBS) game on Thursday, September 3rd. A bloody circle around the date should be the first hint to your family as to what looms ahead. The Mommy checklist gives you less than two months to enforce-
