Eli, Call Your Bro for Advise...Please!

Friday, November 16, 2007, 09:30 PM EST [General]

I still burn about the game last Sunday between the G-man and those Cowboys.  Of course as a Giant fan, it was hard to watch Dallas come to the Meadowlands and make Big Blue look like a NCAA division III team.  But, if the Giants are looking to improve look no further than Eli.

I hope big brother gets a call and to get some advise on managing the play clock and the offense. .  It was very frustrating to watch a 4th year QB manages the offense so poorly that at times I felt we should have let him go to San Diego.  First of, if he can't see those big digital clocks behind the end zones and snap the g damn ball before they run out, he need to be benched.  And as if it wasn't bad enough, he threw on third down to receivers behind the 1st down markers.  Stadium sharing QB looks more appealing to watch right now.  And, I know Pennington would love to play behind that offensive line Eli has in front of him.  He made such immature and absurd mistakes that I turned the Knicks on...the Knicks!

If he is too proud to call Payton, I hope he at least reaches out to senior.  However, time is running out and even though the Giants are 6-3 they have a couple of very tough games left in their schedule.  And, a must win game against an undefeated Patriots team will be virtually impossible.

And one last thing...I can't take his dumb looking face of disguise after a bonehead play ANYMORE!!!

Eli, please call your brother and watch some film together, bring pen and paper and take tons of notes...Thanks a bunch.

Thoughts on Taking joy in the Yankees' misery

Tuesday, October 10, 2006, 02:27 PM EST [General]

A response to Taking joy in the Yankees' misery

Here is a thought, whether the Yankees made it to World Series or not it is still a good year considering all the injuries they endured this past season.  Joe Torre again does a great job with limited resources during a long stretch while trying to keep up with the Red Sox.  A-Rod is a topic for another day but, I will only say this. he need to go!

What I find absurd is the amount of pleasure writers such as yourself find in criticizing the Yankees.  Or, making fun of what a $200 million got them.  You should use your resources and efforts to praise the Tigers for a great series.  They found a way to disarm a potent line up with superior pitching and by taking advantage of the momentum they had after winning game 2 at Yankee Stadium.  Your publication is full of stats but lacks in substance.  I could have looked at all these stats in the web and not have to deal with the idiosyncrasy of your inferior analysis made into an article, wasting a useful informative and captivating tool.  The most ironic factor is that I'm not even a Yankee fan.  I'm just sick of reports that lack imagination and are concerned only with controversy and useless news.  I just wish that for once one of you people with the power to entertain and inform will do just that instead of wasting the opportunity.  Give your audience a little more credit, we know all about the stats.   Be creative, tell me what the Tigers pitching have in common with other greats, or what kind of impact winning this series did for the city of Detroit, or how great was it to finally be considered a contender in a city that Basketball and Hockey are most popular.  I guess in your eyes it is much easier to negatively criticize the Yankees and point out the obvious by loading your article with stats.  How ingenious of you but, most depressing how common.

Super Bowl - Who has the EDGE!

Friday, February 3, 2006, 10:53 AM EST [General]

    QBs

Matt Hasselbeck (8) vs Ben Roethlisberger (7)
I prefer the short to midrange passing Hasselbeck has developed of recent.  Big Ben has employed the throw first run second scheme which, he does very well.  He starts with aggressive but sure throws to open up the run game.  They both rate high in career rating for active QBs, Roesthlisberger 2nd and Hasselbeck 3rd.  Roesthlisberger is usually quiet in the second half, which raises questions about coming from behind. Edge = Even

    RBs

Shaun Alexander (37) vs Willie Parker (39)
Alexander waits for his openings and then makes his move, he is great at reading the line.  And he is the MVP.  Parker will be getting the calls if the choose to run early in the game, if not Bettis will be coming in for the short yardage plays.   Parker as the starter has gained less yardage than Bettis.  Too many ifs for Pittsburg on this match up.  Edge = Seattle

    WRs

Darrell Jackson (82) Bobby Engram (84) vs Hines Ward (86) Antwaan Randle El (82)
Jackson came back strong after a knee injury with a nine-catch, 143-yard performance against the Redskins and with a smooth 28-yard catch.  Engram the better possession guy but will drop balls at times. Ward has a 14.1-yard average and could be the spark needed to get the passing game on a good start Randle El is the deep ball threat and a very complete receiver.  Edge = Pittsburg

    TEs

Jerramy Stevens (86) vs Heath Miller (83)
Stevens is a Jeremy Shockey  type TE and could be a huge difference.  Hopefully his game backs his talk off the field.  Miller mature beyond his years for a rookie, he could be featured early in the middle of the field looking to find openings behind the linebackers.  Edge = Pittsburg

    FBs

Mack Strong (38) vs Dan Kreider (35)
Strong is the most complete of the two.  He could block, run & catch.  He was never polished enough otherwise he could have become talented back just like a Marshall Faulk.  Kreider not much of a threat, he only plays during the 2 TE formations, he can not run well at all, this is an easy pick.  Edge = Seattle

    LT

Walter Jones (71) vs Marvel Smith (77)
Jones could be regarded as the best pass-blocking tackle. does a great job steering his opponent and might be facing Porter most of the game.  Smith he is a very sound player and light on his feet that could recover well.  He did a decent job against Dwight Freeney of the Colts and Trevor Pryce of the Broncos.   Edge = Seattle

    LG

Steve Hutchinson (76) vs Alan Faneca (66)
Hutchinson is going to the Pro-Bowl. He has the best techniques when it comes to run blocking.  He will rely on his superior mental game when facing his opponent.   Faneca can cover well and recover better than most.  However he has looked shaky at time.  Even though Hutchinson is a Pro Bowler I think there is no overwhelming edge here.  Edge = Even

    Centers

Robbie Tobeck (61) vs Jeff Hartings (64)
Tobeck is another Pro Bowler who is extremely intelligent and knows his opponents weaknesses through studying game tape.  Hartings is a great blocker and has a ton of skills.  He is surely a critical part of the running game, and should have most of the plays go in his direction.   Edge = Pittsburg

    RG

Chris Gray (62) vs Kendall Simmons (73)
Gray is playing like a young talented guard rather than a 35 year old has been.  He knows his limitations and tries to adhere to the game plan to better his team's chances.  Simmons recovered well after surgery in the off season.  He uses his size to block and help the run game.  Edge = Pittsburg

    RT

Sean Locklear (75) vs Max Starks (78)
Locklear has done a great job all season long.  He has matched up against the best in the league, he always rises to the occasion.  Starks he is mammoth.  A very big guy who used his size advantage well.  He will make a huge difference in the running game but, most of all is the short yardage game.  Edge = Seattle

    Totals = Even 4-4-2

I would like to think that the game will be exciting based on the match ups mentioned above.  Previous Super Bowl experience from Holmgrem and Cohwer will allow for poise and execution in their game plan...we hope.  This is where the QBs become a  decisive factor, allowing the coaching experience dictate what happens on the field .  I believe this is the most evenly matched teams of all the playoff teams this year  (my opinion).  I, somewhat, look forward to the game, and anxiously await the kickoff.  May the best team WIN.

    Super Bowl or Super Blow?

Thursday, January 26, 2006, 11:08 AM EST [General]

I've seen many interesting blogs from different individuals trying to convince us that this Super Bowl will be great, the best ever, and one for the ages.  Doing so, trying to justify how good Seattle and Pittsburg are.  I agree that they are good solid teams that could give us a thrilling Super Bowl.  But, I caution you.  The history of past Super Bowls support the theory that many teams that make it...are not worth it of such recognition.

The only certainty about this Super Bowl is that one team will win.  But, nothing about either team convinces me that it would rank high in Super Bowl history.  I'm not implying that I want to see New England and Green Bay in the Super Bowl every year either.  I just won't count my eggs before they hatch.  I've already seen writers call this a great Super Bowl. According to those media clowns, its supposed to be the best possible match up between all the teams that made the playoffs this year.  But, I know they would have said the same thing if it was the Giants against the Broncos.  They would have called a great rematch of Super Bowl XXI.  And, same would have been said about the Patriots against the Bears.

I, unlike most people, won't be persuaded.  I will weigh in the facts about each contender and take for what it is.  Seattle didn't impress me because they play in what is known as the weakest division in football.  The game against Washington could have gone either way if a couple of plays would have gone in favor of the Redskinds.  And against Carolina, Delhomme played horribly.  He forgot that Ricky Proehl was on his team.  Forced passes into double coverage to Smith totally undermining Seattle's game plan.

The Steelers, a bit better all around.  They were a game away last year from the big dance so, I would regard them as favorites.  However, no one knows how the game would have ended if Carson Palmer didn't get injured from the start.  At Indy, they almost blew a comfortable lead.  Big Ben might be remembered by that tackle more so than his performance in Denver.  I won't even talk about the AFC Championship game... cause no one was surprised about Jake Plummer's performance.

This could be a huge disappointment to many of us impartial fans whose team isn't in it.  Remember Super Bowls I & II when Green Bay embarrassed KC and Oakland. How about Super Bowl VI when Dallas walked all over Miami.  But Miami redeemed themselves 2 years later when they beat Minnesota.  And who could forget how awful Collins was when the Ravens destroyed the Giants in Super Bowl XXXV.

What I truly hope to see is a match up that is worth the hype.  Similar to Super Bowl V where Jim O'Brien kicked a 32 yd field goal to win it for Baltimore with on five seconds left in the game.  Or Super Bowl XIII where a Steelers lead vanished in a blink of an eye...one more onside kick and who knows!!!  And, who could forget the most famous of all, the thriller of them all, Super Bowl XXV.  I'm not a fan of low scoring games but, I didn't mind this time around.  Two really good teams, The Bills were a high power offense, and the Giants a solid defense with great clock management on offense.

So, I do wish to see a great game, but I have doubts.  I know the Steelers and Seahawks' fans will disagree and understandably so, as you are bias.  However, those of us who could care less who wins, don't what 4 hours of mediocre performance.  I'll even take a low scoring game if it is a fight to the end.  I just hope we don't have a winner by halftime.

Are the Knicks' fans getting what the GM paid for?

Wednesday, January 25, 2006, 10:21 AM EST [General]

The Knicks are suffering the consequences of the NBA's chronic problem with the long list of over paid, unproven talent.  How could Isiah Thomas justify the money spent to bring a player like Marbury, James, Richardson, Crawford or even Curry?  What have they done so far?  The Knicks, on paper, are a solid Eastern Conference contender.  However, with a 13-26 record half way through the season, they are 13th in the conference and 5 full games the eighth and last spot in the playoffs.

What a mess?  How could you fix it?  There are a couple of scenarios that may save the Knicks and take them out of life support.

1- Get KG: Marbury needs a real go to guy.  They've played together in Sota and they like each other...yes they do!  I'll gladly give the any combination of Jerome James, Qyntel Richardson, Malik Rose and Maurice Taylor.  Even if they want all of them, take them.  But, keep Eddie Curry so that he could learn from KG and develops into a dominant center.  This will bring back some excitement back to the Garden, may be even a playoff berth.

2- Trade away: Get ride of players that haven't proven to be worth the cash.  I would start with Anfernee Hardaway and Jamal Crawford.  When was the last time Hardaway played more than 20 games in a season?  Poor Jamal!  Now that Larry Brown has completely removed any ounce of confidence he ever had, he isn't worth the mula he is getting paid anymore.   I know there are more of those players but, it's too hard for me and I don't want to cry.

3- New GM: Thomas had his chance but, he hasn't delivered.  His formula for success has the Knicks in such financial hart ship that it makes my back account look good.  I don't know what's easier to handle, the National deficit or the Knicks salary expenditures.  Who is spending more with nothing to show for? Isiah Thomas in NY or George Bush in Iraq?

I truly miss the Patrick Ewing years.  Times where success and excitement ruled the "Mecca" of basketball.  Now all you hear is "boos" echoing in the Garden...even Spike Lee is booing the Knicks.  I long for a day where I see the Knicks competing with Detroit, Miami or Indiana for supremacy in the Eastern Conference.  I just hope it happens before I get tired of waiting and jump ship.  Western Conference teams need love too, you know!
