Last night watching the Red Wings and Calgary Flames play the goaltending duel was like watching pitchers shut down hitter after hitter. There were two goals scored in regulatuion. One for Calgary scored by Dion Phaneuf on a delayed power play. One for Detroit Red Wings scored by Steve Yzerman, from the slot and beat Kiprusoff low. Steve Yzerman the captain, not finished yet.
Steve Yzerman has been the guy to rely on in the locker room for leadership and keeping the players focused during the intermissions, on the ice for passing and scoring, and on the golf course away from the Joe Louis Arena. When the playoffs start this year Steve Yzerman will be on scoring streak that has been going for 12 games. Steve Yzerman has 15 points in 12 games. He has been the player for years that everyone admires.
"Over the Hill", is a expression that cannot be tagged to the Captain, Steve Yzerman. Why? He is still on the top of the hill standing like the king of the hill looking at the rest of the NHL.
The rest of the NHL is wondering when Steve will come down from the top. I am not writing that I or anyone want him to come down from the eyrie; the eagles nest where the view is for miles. We want # 19 to continue wearing the "C" and play the game we and he love; Detroit Red WIngs Hockey. Steve Yzerman is not finished yet.
The Detroit Red Wings won last night in a shootout. Thanks to Pavel Datsyuk and Jason Williams beating Mikka Kiprusoff on the same type of move. The final score 2-1.
