    Remembering Vinnie Johnson- "The Microwave"

Friday, May 12, 2006, 08:30 AM EST [NBA Playoffs, Vinnie Johnson, ]

A Microwave oven- warms up our snacks for the big playoff game that we are watching with our friends. It heats our buttered popcorn to crunchy perfection.  A microwave is a parents best friend for getting dinner ready for the kids and the family when you need food quickly.  The microwave-- lets face it is the best invention after the light bulb.

Vinnie Johnson- was given the nickname "The Microwave", by guard Danny Ainge, because he could quickly heat up for the Pistons off the bench.  He was traded to Detroit by Seattle in exchange for Greg Kelser.  His regular season play helped the Pistons to reach the playoffs and win back to back Larry O' Brien trophies.  His playoff stats are remembered by his opponents and Detroit Sports fans everywhere.  Below are playoff statistics from 1989 and 1990 championships:

    1989- Games 17, FG% .455, FT% .758, R 45, PTS 239, AVG 14.1

    1990- Games 20, FG% 462, FT% 791, R 56, PTS 206, AVG 10.3

The shot of Vinnie Johnson's career in Detroit was made in 1990 playoff finals against the Portland Blazers; with 0:07 on the game clock he made the game winning shot and the Pistons went on to win the game 92-90.

His Pistons number 15, is retired and he now is a business owner in Detroit.
