Gretzky, Lemieux, Messier in a Red Wings Jersey. Something fun to think about on the eve of Yzerman's decision.

Wednesday, May 17, 2006, 11:51 AM EST [Detroit Red Wings, Mario Lemie]

Ok NHL fans-- something fun to think about on the eve of Steve Yzerman and the press confrence to announce his decision.  It has long been stated in print  and on various blogs contained on this site that Yzerman will likely retire.  And that his friends; Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux will be on the Hall of Fame podium with him.  So what monumental occurrence would it take to have Captain Steve Yzerman return so that he can retire after lifting Lord Stanley's Cup?

Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Mark Messier in a jersey with the Winged Wheel.  That is the monumental happening.  What gives credence to this is that Wayne Gretzky said that he would come out of retirement and play for team Canada if Yzerman would in Torino, Italy for the 2006 Olympics.  Mario has never played for an Original Six team and what better time than now when his friend needs him, and I know that he has injuries so does Steve.  That is inspiratiion enough.  And Mark Messier, he is Wayne's bud.  If the "Moose"; Mark Messier had a call from Gretzky that would motivate Messier to make a decision.

And with the Penguins and Coyotes constraints it would not take much for Gretzky and Mario to come to the Motor City.  If some of  you think that the cap room for Detroit is a problem, money is of no concern to the likes of, Messier, Gretzky and Lemieux.

Salary demands among these friends of Steve Yzerman would be low.  Anything for their bud who wears number 19 to lift the Cup at the end of the 2006-07 season and lifting the Cup together would be the end of legendary careers for all of them; and their names would be iconically etched together on the same lines of the Stanley Cup.  When I originally dreamed of this miraclous happening I told friends that it was a funny idea.  A dream.  They all told me it was not so funny and said " Post this article letsgoredwings. Because it is very realistic, and friends will do anything for each other."

Friends are pals, and with Steve Yzerman, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Mark Messier their friendship runs deeper than the geyser "Old Faithful." I no longer consider this funny, but seriously folks and the "Dream Team" of the NHL is born, and Steve Yzerman is the Captain of this  band of Hall of Famers.
