    Time to shine?

Tuesday, July 3, 2007, 08:02 PM EST [General]

Jimmie Johnson's been here before. He's had to race while his crew chief Chad Knaus has been sidelined by suspension.

So what did he do? He won some races.

What can you expect Johnson to do while Knaus serves his current suspension? You guessed it, win more races. The precendent is there, and so is the talent.

This week, because of the fact he's done so well even without Knaus calling the shots, Johnson is No. 4 in this week's Power Rankings.

What do you think? Can Johnson be as successful as he's been this season without Knaus in the pit box?

    Was it enough?

Many people expected Juan Pablo Montoya to do well on Sunday at Sonoma. After all, he has a road-course pedigree from his days as an open-wheel racer.

So not too many people were shocked to see JPM make it to Victory Lane for the first time in a Nextel Cup race when he took the checkered flag this past weekend.

So how should Montoya's win affect the Power Rankings? Montoya is now one of two drivers to win a race this season who would not make the Chase of the season ended today, with the other being Casey Mears. Does the 21st-place driver deserve a spot in the Power Rankings?

Let us know what you think.

    The Kid is all right

Things couldn't be any better for Jeff Gordon these days.

Not only does he lead the Nextel Cup Series standings by a comfortable margin, he and his wife also welcomed a baby daughter, Ella Sofia, on Wednesday, and, most importantly, he's No. 1 again in this week's Power Rankings (just kidding about the "most importantly" thing).

Does Gordon still deserve to be No. 1? Maybe Carl Edwards should be there after his victory in Michigan? What about the red-hot Martin Truex Jr., becoming the go-to guy for DEI?

Let us know what you think.

    What about Jimmie?

Tuesday, June 12, 2007, 09:33 PM EST [General]

Four times this season, Jimmie Johnson has won a race and gotten to do a burnout.

You'd think four wins in 14 races would carry some clout when it comes to ranking the top drivers on the Nextel Cup circuit. But this week, Johnson sits in 10th place in our Power Rankings.

Is that fair to Johnson? Should his four wins place him higher up in the rankings? Does the fact he hasn't won in a few weeks mean it's ok to move him down the list?

    What do you think?

    Martin in the Chase?

Tuesday, June 5, 2007, 10:07 PM EST [General]

For a part-timer, Mark Martin is making his presence felt on a full-time basis.

He may not be running the full Nextel Cup schedule this season, but Martin is pretty much on pace to make the Chase.

    Who'da thunk it?

This week, Martin is No. 2 in our Power Rankings. Do you think he deserves such a lofty position? Let us know what you think.
