    Just A Thought…BE THE OWNER! In sports whenever a team has a losing atmosphere for consecutive seasons the OWNER tends to make changes. Whether the problem is the coach of the team or the players that play, the owner must evaluate the situation as a whole and then break things down into various parts to locate the issue(s). Whether its life or sports if a team stays at the bottom the problem is usually at the top! So be a great owner of your team and when things around you don’t change…then change the things around you!

    NBA Season Preview: Last week we dissected the order for the South East Division (Magic, Hawks, Wizards, Heat, and Bobcats) as well as the South West Division (Spurs, Mavericks, Hornets, Rockets, Grizzles). Now, we’ll take a look at the two divisions that are home to the last two NBA Champions: Atlantic (Celtics) & Pacific (Lakers) Divisions. 

    EAST: Atlantic (predicted order of finish)

    CELTICS- Last season the Celtics were on a crash course for a rematch with the Lakers in the NBA Finals. Then “it” happened, Kevin Garnett went down with a knee injury. Boston managed to maintain their success during the regular season but when the playoffs came around the Bulls gave them all they could handle before the Champs would eventually be eliminated by the Magic. This season Boston signed up for some insurance by signing F/C Rasheed Wallace and G/F Marquis Daniels. Not only are the C’s primed to make another run into June but Rasheed is predicting the team will make a run at the Bulls 72-10 record! I’m not sure they will win that many games but if KG is healthy Boston will definitely be the Beast of the East. Then again if he’s not healthy Boston will simply look down the bench at their All State Policy (Rasheed Wallace) and they’ll be in good hands! Prediction: 64-18

    RAPTORS: Toronto’s starting 5 is talented and eccentric! Each player (Calderon, Belinelli, Turkoglu, Bosh and Bargnani) has there own unique way of scoring and speaking (since they are all from different countries). I’m not sure if there signals ever get lost in translation but one thing's for sure they will be explosive on the offensive end. Their bench is strong in the backcourt (Jack, DeRozan & Wright) but it lacks depth in the front-court. Hedo Turkoglu provides the versatility to run the offense or play off the ball. Turkoglu will also be able to give Toronto the outside option in the clutch (matched with Bosh’s ability to score in the paint). This team is not among the best in the East but they will definitely compete with the rest. Prediction: 43-39

    76ERS: PF Elton Brand will return from his season ending shoulder surgery but exiting is PG Andre Miller (Portland) via free-agency. The big question is who will run the team? Lou Williams is a shoot first guard and rookie Jrue Holiday needs to be brought along slowly before he can be handed the keys to a NBA Team. This team is solid on paper but has too many questions to answer in a preview. If Brand returns to his 20-10 form things will open up for guys around the perimeter but will they knock down shots consistently? See what I mean, question after question. If you ask me today are they a playoff team my answer is “No.” Stay tuned it seems as if the Sixers needs to make a deal or two this season to produce a more competitive roster. Prediction: 38-44

    NETS: This summer the Nets finally parted ways with the final piece of their finals roster when they traded Vince Carter to the Magic for Courtney Lee, Rafer Alston and Tony Battie. At the point Devin Harris is definitely the future of the Nets and the addition of Courtney Lee showcasing a promising backcourt tandem. In the middle Brook Lopez has a lot of upside to combine with the guards but that’s where the majority of their talent ends. Bobby Simmons and Yi Jianlian are too soft to be their cogs at forward. As for the acquisition of Alston he’s in the final year of his deal and may be soon shipped out of town to rebuild and prepare for a possible move to Brooklyn (and of course the summer of 2010). Prediction: 36-46

    KNICKS: The Yankees seemed to be destined for another World Series appearance, the Giants are undefeated and looking like the best team in football, the Jets have a bright future with Mark Sanchez and Braylon Edwards and then there are the Knicks. Mike D’Antoni will enter his second season as the Knicks coach (thinking what did I get myself into) attempting to turning New York’s rotten apple team into a winner. Unfortunately, the Knicks roster does not feature one player that gives the city and its fans hope for even a 30-win season. Many fans are holding their collective breaths that LeBron James (or some big 2010 Free-Agent) will sign with New York next summer, until then they’ll just cheer on the Yanks, Giants and Jets and act as if the Knicks do not exist! Prediction: 28-54

    WEST: Pacific

    LAKERS- When a team wins the NBA Title it’s hard to expose their weakness but when it comes to the Lakers its no secret that they lacked toughness. But that was then, now the Lakers have one of the toughest on ball defenders in the L, in F Ron Artest. Despite Lamar Odom’s abrupt marriage prior to training camp the team should be just fine (barring injury). Kobe trained with Hakeem Olajuwon in the off-season to enhance his post game. This is key since the Lakers operate out of the triangle offense where Kobe is often featured with his back to the basket. Not to mention Bryant didn’t have any Olympic commitments to tend to or injuries to nurse. KB24 is rested, healthy and ready to accept a new challenge: battling Artest in practice on a daily basis. This may be Phil Jackson’s last run at a title so please believe Ron Artest will do whatever it takes to get his first. This team will be representing the West in the Finals for a third consecutive season. Prediction: 67-15

    SUNS- Last season the Suns fired a coach, lost Amar’e Stoudemire to a season ending eye injury and missed the playoffs despite finishing the season 10 games over .500. So what does that mean for a team once among the NBA elite? They have a lot of holes to fill. Nash and Hill are getting older, Stoudemire seems to be motivated yet Robin Lopez will start the season injured. So now Channing Frye is expected to step up at the Power Forward position and Amar’e must play center once again. Phoenix will look to get back to their run-n-gun style but the aging veterans mixed with the youth and inexperience will expose various holes on defense and a lot of high scoring battles. The Suns will compete with the mediocre teams but they will serve as doormats to the elite. Prediction: 44-38

    CLIPPERS- The Clippers are excited about the arrival of #1 pick Blake Griffin. As Griffin teams with the likes of Al Thornton and Eric Gordon they definitely have a bright future. But the point of this blog is what can they do now! Baron Davis, Marcus Camby and Chris Kaman will have the frustrating task of pursuing the playoffs will playing through the growing pains of their younger players. Surprisingly this team is deep enough to challenge for the 8th spot in the playoffs. Just like any team the key is health, especially among the veteran players. If their vets can stay healthy and bring the young players along smoothly they can compete and look to win 40+ games. How fast the team gels will be the difference in whether or not they will clinch a spot in the postseason. Prediction: 40-42

    WARRIORS- The moment training camp opened in Oakland their season came to a screeching hault. “Captain” Stephen Jackson enters camp demanding a trade and PG Monta Ellis seems to still be holding a grudge with the management and quietly wants a change of scenery as well. Nevertheless this team is stacked with talent in Anthony Randolph, Anthony Morrow and Stephen Curry. However, the distractions of their unhappy veterans may stunt their growth. Hopefully the Warriors can move Jackson early with hopes of releasing the tension out of Warriors camp. If not the teams season is headed directly over the Golden Gate Bridge. Prediction: 37-45

    KINGS- This team has D League written all over it! The only bright spot on the roster is rookie G Tyreke Evans. Kevin Martin’s numbers will fall without the services of a true PG not to mention Francisco Garcia will start the season in street clothes after breaking his forearm while working out with an exercise ball that exploded. The Kings are a long way away from the Chris Webber glory days and they won’t give fans in Sacramento any reason to bring the cow bells to the arena this season. Prediction: 22-60

    NFL News & Notes

    *Braylon’s Debut! Just days after disgruntled wideout Braylon Edwards stepped on to the Monday Night scene and gave Jets fans a reason to smile. Edwards hauled in 5 catches for 64 yards and a 1 TD (actually he was robbed of a 2nd by Refs). Braylon looks like he will be the big target downfield the Sanchez needs to succeed. I’m not jumping on the Jets bandwagon or anything but this is definitely a team to watch and a player to snag up in your Fantasy leagues! 

    *NFL Trade Deadline: The NFL Trade deadline is Tuesday Oct. 20th. Unlike the NBA most teams don’t look to make deadline moves that will help teams make a playoff push or stock piling picks for the draft. In my opinion a lot of teams that are struggling (Bills, Browns, Panthers and Raiders) all have at least one player they could trade with hopes of building a better roster whereas a contender may be able to relinquish some picks for an opportunity of playing for a Super Bowl in February. While the majority of these players won’t be moved by Tuesday many teams could definitely use their services. Here’s a look at a few possible commodities on the market. 

    1. DE Shawne Merriman: Merriman has yet to return to his Lights Out form which means the Chargers aren’t likely to offer him a new deal at seasons end. We all know defense wins championships and a team like the Saints who has a potent offense and an average defense, could use the services of a LB like Merriman with his sights set on getting a new contract. Likely Destination: Saints, Falcons, Bears, Patriots

    2. QB Brady Quinn: At one point Brady Quinn was viewed as the Browns’ savior but now he’s been benched for the second time by his hometown team! With that said it seems like the Browns could fix this leak by trading Quinn to a team like the Rams who doesn’t seem to have a clue what their future holds at the QB position. Besides Quinn still has potential to produce in my eyes he just needs a fresh lease on life and a chance to get out of the hometown spotlight. Likely Destination: St. Louis, Washington, Seattle

    3. QB Michael Vick: The Eagles proved to have the biggest spaldings of all NFL teams by signing the dynamic QB. But with Donovan McNabb back to his All-Pro form and Kevin Kolb proving to be a worthy backup the Eagles should look into enhancing their safety position (along with a draft pick) to make a run at the Gaints in their division and of course a deep run in the playoffs. The Eagles will probably hold on to Vick and allow his stock to rise into the off-season but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a team make the move with hopes of building a rapport with Mike prior to next season. Likely Destination: Carolina, Seattle, San Francisco

    4. WR Terrell Owens: Owens seems like the most likely trade piece in the NFL. He only has a one year deal (so Buffalo won’t get anything for him next summer), Buffalo can’t score on Madden ’10 and a few teams need a veteran threat at wideout. Rumors have flown around about the Bears looking into the services of T.O. but they don’t have a history of doing anything close to the nature of acquiring a player like Owens who comes with baggage. Many teams are predicated on running the ball and if they could acquire a talent like Owens to take a safety out the box their chances of making the playoffs will only enhance. Likely Destination: Bears, Chargers, Dolphins 

    *40/40 Club: The Patriots recently signed 40-year-old LB Junior Seau. By signing to New England Seau becomes only the second (current non-kicker/punter) to play at the age of 40. The other being QB Brett Favre (I’m sure you’ve heard of him)

    NFL: PICK 6! WEEK 6 Predictions: (Bye Week: Cowboys, Colts, Dolphins, 49ers)

    1. (2-2) CARDINALS @ (2-3) SEAHAWKS- The Cards visit Seattle after winning a shootout against the Texans. As for the Seahawks they look to get back to .500 now that they have Matt Hasselbeck back under center. So what will give, the explosive Cardinals offense or the roaring 12th man at Qwest Field? Both teams are chasing the ‘Niners in the NFC West but a good way to catch up is by gaining a W against a division opponent. This game will come down to which team can stop the run because the balanced attack will prevail. Look for the Cardinals to clean things up along the defensive line while their offense will continue moving chains. This may be another shootout involving the Cardinals and I’m not sure the ‘Hawks have enough firepower to compete for 4 quarters.  Prediction: CARDINALS by 4

    2. (2-3) TEXANS @ (4-1) BENGALS- For those who continue to believe the Bengals are not for real seriously needs to order the Sunday Ticket and start watching more of there games. I’m not saying this team is primed for a Super Bowl run but they currently sit atop the AFC North defeating three straight divisional opponents. Now they will host the Texans who haven’t had a problem putting up points yet they’ve struggled to stop the opposition. Something tells me that the Bengals may come down to earth this week but I wouldn’t take that bet to Vegas! Prediction: TEXANS by 3

    3. (3-2) RAVENS @ (5-0) VIKINGS- The Vikings offense will finally be tested by a top rated defense when the Ravens visit the Metrodome on Sunday. Ray Lewis and company will do all that it can to shut down Adrian Peterson on the ground. They won’t just put 8 players in the box but they will have various blitz schemes designed to funnel the offense in one direction. This game will be a true clash but the difference may actually be the two offensive lines. Both teams have good running games but the team who can prevent their QB from lying on his back means the chains will be moving down the field. This game will be entertaining and described simply as a slugfest! Prediction: RAVENS by 5

    4. (5-0) BRONCOS @ (2-2) CHARGERS: Are the Broncos seriously undefeated? That’s what their record says! And their play on the field has backed it up. Now Denver will showcase their “Wild Horses” formation on Monday Night when they take on their AFC West division foe San Diego Chargers. Like most seasons, San Diego has started out slowly boasting the 2-2 record and in fear of falling 3 games behind Denver in the lost column. The Chargers absolutely HAVE to get Tomlinson/Sproles going on the ground if this team wants to challenge Denver for the Division. As for the Chargers defense they need their front 7 to step up and pressure Kyle Orton if they look to come out of the game with a W. For some reason I think the Chargers slow start to the season has ended and they will pick things up in front of a National audience. At least Norv Turner hopes so. Prediction: CHARGERS by 2

    5. (3-1) BEARS @ (3-1) FALCONS: This game is obviously a difficult one for me to call. I’m an unapologetic CHICAGO BEARS fan! I probably know more about the Bears than I do about my third cousin! But due to the fact that I reside in Atlanta my knowledge of the Matty Ice version of the Dirty Birds makes this breakdown that much more difficult but I will give it a try! The Bears are fresh off a much needed bye week used to get their walking wounded healthy. Everyone should be back in uniform (not named Brian Urlacher) poised to seek revenge on the last second defeat they suffered in the Georgia Dome last fall. As for the Falcons they are coming off a huge win by the Bay against a surging 49ers squad (who was without Frank Gore). Ryan and Roddy White seem to mold into the highly anticipated 1-2 punch that Falcons’ fans hoped would develop. Not to mention Michael Turner got in the groove by scoring 3 TDs. So what will be the difference in the game, DEFENSE of course! The Bears are currently in the midst of a three-game winning streak because of their ability to pressure opposing QBs. This disrupts the timing of an offense and eventually leads to turnovers .Something that is hard for teams to overcome when the opposition has a balanced attack. The Falcons defense has struggled to pressure QBs (which is how they lost to the Patriots) and that puts pressure on the secondary. This game is definitely worth the price of admission (which is why I will be in attendance) as for the outcome, it may again come down to a field goal but this time on the toes of Robbie “Good As” Gould! Prediction: BEARS by 1

    6. (5-0) GIANTS @ (4-0) SAINTS: Prediction: If the Bears-Falcons game is a featured presentation the Giants-Saints is the ENCORE! These two NFC heavyweights will collide in the Bayou. Both teams have excellent passing games but one will be surprised to see how big of a gap there is between the #1 team in the Conference and the #2 team. One team has a tenacious defense the other is emerging. One team has an undeniable run game the other is non-existent. One team has Super Bowl experience and the other one….well has Super Bowl aspirations. While I do like Brees and his gaudy fantasy numbers his Saints squad is clearly the second best team in the conference and both will have an opportunity to settle things once and for all come Sunday. To conclude things the Giants run game will truly be the difference because it will keep Brees & Co. on the sideline setting things up for the hungry front four rush of the Giants. Prediction: GIANTS by 7

    Just A Thought…

    BE A GOOD SPORT…The NBA Season is just a few weeks away from Tip-Off but one of the lasting images in fans’ mind from the ’09 postseason was the sight of LeBron James walking off the court without shaking the hands of the Orlando Magic. Many would characterize his actions as being a “sore loser” or “poor sport” without realizing in life we too are guilty of the same poor actions. When you’re in traffic and someone is trying to get in front of you, have you let them over with a smile? Or stared straight ahead as if you never saw them? When you’re on an elevator at work, will you hold it for a fellow employee trying to catch it? Or will you slam the button? There are a million and one ways to be a good sport but there are just as many when it comes to being a sore loser. Some think they’re “competitive nature” is their reason for their actions while others like Derek Jeter, Steve Nash and Peyton Manning can congratulate others in their defeat because they understand the meaning of sportsmanship. So whether you’re an athlete or an administrator remember this: “people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did but people will never forget how you made them feel.”—Maya Angelou

    NBA News & Notes:

    Back to the Hardwood!!! Last week we dissected the order for the Central Division (Cavs, Bulls, Pistons, Pacers and Bucks) as well as the Northwest Division (Nuggets, Blazers, Jazz, Thunder and Wolves). Now, we’ll head down south to take a look at the Southeast Division (home of the defending East Champs, Magic) as well as the South West Division (home of a proven Champ, Spurs)….

    EAST: South East (predicted order of finish)

    •  
      1. MAGIC- Other than the Lakers edition of Ron Artest this offseason, I really liked the upgrades Orlando made. Sure they lost Hedo and Courtney Lee but they added Vince Carter, Brandon B**** (a true PF), retained Marcin Gortat and they’ll have a healthy Jameer Nelson back to man the offense. The first 10 games of the season will be played without Rashard Lewis, who’s serving a 10-game suspension for a banned substance, but luckily for the Magic it’s a cupcake schedule that only features a game against the Cavs. The Magic should easily come out of that stretch with an 8-2 record. Orlando will get tougher this year and that means a tougher task in the paint for their opponents. Question is has Dwight developed a post move to use against Shaq and K.G?  Prediction: 58-24
      2. HAWKS- The Hawks have quietly improved their record over the last 4 seasons. 2 seasons ago they snuck into the playoffs and this past season they actually one a playoff series. This summer they’ve added Jamal Crawford to the guard rotation and the veteran presence of Joe Smith in the front court. So does this mean they’re ready to contend for a title? Not quite. The Hawks will be a more explosive team and should win a few more close games down the stretch with options such as Joe Johnson and Jamal Crawford but their true task will be to get wins on the road this season so that they can make the leap to true contenders this season. Nevertheless they won 47 games last year and I wouldn’t be shocked to see them hit the big 5-0 this season. Prediction: 50-32
      3. WIZARDS- Offensive guru Flip Saunders will take over coaching duties with hopes that a healthy Gilbert Arenas could get Washington back to respectability. Many “experts” feel this team could possibly make a run at the 4th or 5th seed in the East, I myself would rather see that sermon than hear it. There are a few health and chemistry concerns (additions of Mike Miller & Randy Foye) that worries me but I still believe this team should be playoff bound….if they stay healthy. Prediction: 42-40
      4. HEAT- Question can one man do it all? Well Dwyane Wade will definitely do his best to be that man because Miami made absolutely NO upgrades this offseason (no disrespect to Quentin Richardson) but other thank being a fellow Chicagoan, he and Wade have nothing else in common skill wise to make a move up the East standings. Not to mention, Michael Beasley had a tumultuous off-season needing to check into a drug rehab. Pat Riley never signed a solid PG to add to Mario Chalmers and no one in South Florida believes Jermaine O’Neal will play 62 games let along 82! In the end D. Wade still gives Miami fans hope for the upcoming year that is until he test free-agency next summer.  Prediction: 40-42
      5. BOBCATS- This Larry Brown/Michael Jordan constructed team is going to play hard and be one of those scrappy teams that you can never pull away from but Tyson Chandler will miss CP3’s lobs, Raymond Felton will miss a lot of shots and once again Charlotte will miss the playoffs. Prediction: 38-44

    WEST: South West

    •  
      1. SPURS- San Antonio made some quiet yet major moves this off-season. Trading for swingman Richard Jefferson (for a guy who retired and another utility player. This allows the Spurs to have some insurance on Manu (in case he doesn’t return to form) or simply makes them that more explosive. The Spurs also added Antonio McDyess (&Theo Ratliff) to their front court. As usual Popovich will preach defense, Tony Parker & Duncan will run the offense and the Spurs will once again be featuring their “boring” offense & defense come the postseason.  Prediction: 55-27
      2. MAVERICKS- For some reason the Mavs always seem like a player away after losing in the Finals in 2006. They retained Jason Kidd and added Shawn Marion and Drew Gooden but it seems as if Josh Howard is dealing with a few injuries and will more than likely set the Mavs back. Unless Mark Cuban can pull off a big move this year they may be bounced from the postseason pretty early, except this time it won’t be a surprise. Prediction: 51-31
      3. HORNETS- So let me get something straight, the Hornets traded away an athletic big that ran the break to perfection along side Chris Paul for a undersized center that plays BELOW the rim? And you wonder why they’re third in the division? This team is definitely digressing and it seems as if they will struggle this year and return to the Hornets of old. There will be a lot of pressure on Paul’s shoulder to carry the team, watch the health of Paul who may possibly break down over the course of the 82-game schedule. Prediction: 49-33
      4. ROCKETS- No Ming. No Artest. No T-Mac (for most of the year) No playoffs for the Rockets!! The addition of Trevor Ariza is nothing to tweet about, last year this team was tough, fought hard on every possession and was never easy to pull away from. But when you lose the firepower, toughness and leadership that they’ve lost going into the season it’s easy to understand why the Rockets will never launch in Houston this season. Prediction: 44-38
      5. GRIZZLES- Let me first begin by saying I AM an Allen Iverson fan. Now, let me move on by saying this team has NO chance whatsoever to play deep into May. The team is full of youth (along with Iverson & Zach Randolph) but none have a true concept of team basketball (meaning on both ends of the court) and they all succeed with the ball in their hands. A recipe for disaster. I must admit Memphis has more to cheer about (and watch) on Beale Street but it will be short lived. Prediction: 34-48

    NFL News & Notes

    *Braylon to Big Apple! After losing yet another game with the Cleveland Browns and stealing on a friend of LeBron James, Braylon Edwards was traded to the New York Jets for 2 players and 2 draft picks. While many joke that LeBron James had something to do with the move, I ****ure you it was in the works prior to Braylon’s impersonation of Kimbo Slice. Fantasy owners should rejoice because not only his starting immediately but he will be playing with a QB that is not afraid to let the ball fly down the field.

    *Crabtree Finally Signs: It only took 10 months and MC Hammer (yes MC Hammer) to get a deal done between rookie wideout Michael Crabtree and the San Francisco 49ers. No, Hammer is not Crabtree’s agent but apparently he had a hand in convincing Michael to do whatever it took to get the deal done. I never thought Crabtree’s helmet was snapped too tight but now that I now he needed a guy who mastered the art of blowing money giving him financial advice, I know MC Crabtree has finally lost all the mind that he has left. Good Luck rookie and welcome to the NFL.

    NFL: PICK 6! WEEK 5 Predictions:  (Bye Week: Bears, Packers, Saints, Chargers)

    1.(3-1) BENGALS @ (3-1) RAVENS- After the Bengals fell to the hands of the Broncos and their “Hail Mary” in week one many football enthusiasts thought the Bengals were doomed for another disaster season. But after the first quarter of the year has come to a close Palmer & OchoCinco seems to be on one accord and their defense is flying to the ball. This week however will be their toughest test yet as they travel to Baltimore for an AFC North clashing! The Ravens are still upset about the way they lost to the Pats in week 4 and they’ll look to bounce back against Cincy. Look for their defense to set the tone early and Flacco to finish things late as the Ravens prove that they are for real. Now don’t get me wrong the Bengals will play them tough (as they always do) but their Offensive line isn’t quite tough enough to withstand the wrath of the Ravens. Prediction: RAVENS by 6

    2. (2-1) FALCONS @ (3-1) 49ERS- After a week to off the Falcons should be both healthy and prepared for the Niners. But in San Fran their defense has been one of the better units around in the first quarter this season. While its true that all of their wins have been against NFC West opponents this team is still legit. As for the Falcons their great equalizer has been a young Matt Ryan. His ability to stand tall and dissect defenses has been the key to the Falcons success since he took over last season. Atlanta may come out a bit rusty but with a banged up Frank Gore on the Niners sideline the nod has to go to the dirty birds. Prediction: FALCONS by 3

     3. (2-2) TEXANS @ (1-2) CARDINALS- If nothing else this game will be a shootout! The Texans have been inconsistent when it comes to finishing games but they haven’t had a problem with putting points on the board. As for the Cards it seems as if they are suffering from a bit of Super Bowl “losers” hangover. If Arizona wants to salvage this season and have a chance to compete with the Niners for their division the time to start is this week at home! Beanie Wells has shown flashes in the backfield but Kurt Warner and his wideouts have struggled. The Texans inconsistency will most likely continue on the road, as the Cards will look to improve to .500. Prediction: CARDINALS by 4

    4. (3-1) PATRIOTS @ (4-0) BRONCOS: This game will feature the Teacher vs. the Pupil. Bill Belichick has taught Josh McDaniels all that he knows including how to rip the sleeves off of his hoodie. But one thing Josh doesn’t have that Bill does is Tom Brady (&Randy Moss). This game will be close since Josh knows Brady’s strengths and weaknesses. But like my old high school coach told me, your opponent can know what play is coming, but they still have to be able to stop it! Prediction: PATRIOTS by 10

    5. (4-0) COLTS @ (0-4) TITANS: Normally this game is a toss up but so far the guys from Remember The Titans could probably do a better job of playing football than the real Titans! I’m not sure exactly what their problem is. They’ve lost close games and they’ve been blown out. Either way fresh off a 13-3 season a 0-4 start is unacceptable. As for Manning & Co. preparation and perfection is just something that they mastered in Indy and something they will look to continue this Sunday. The Colts p****ing attack will be too much for a struggling Titans offense to rival. If Tennessee’s running game can’t get going early this game will be over even earlier! Prediction: Colts by 8

    6. (3-1) JETS @ (1-3) DOLPHINS: This Monday Night snoozer just got interesting with the recent acquisition of WR Braylon Edwards. Although he is expected to start I wouldn’t expect for him to make that big of a splash in his first game due to lack of timing with his rookie QB in Mark Sanchez. As for Miami, they will attempt to use their wildcat offense to offset the various schemes drawn up by Rex Ryan and his defense. Without Chad Pennington under center the Dolphins don’t pose much of a threat through the air. Look for the Jets to fly high this week regardless of Braylon’s play. Prediction: JETS by 7

    Just A Thought…

    THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WINS & LOSSES…Every great athlete has a mentor. Larry Fitzgerald leans on Chris Carter, and all Carter did was catch TDs.. Devin Hester’s mentor is Deion Sanders, so it’s no surprise how exciting Hester is when he touches the ball. On the hardwood, Deron Williams mentor is John Stockton, explaining Deron’s effortless execution of the pick-n-roll. And we all know Kobe mirrors Michael Jordan hence his clutch playing and champion pedigree. Before any of the current athletes become the best (and leaders) at what they do, they find the best individual to follow. The mentor is there to coach one through adversity, they’re the bridge between failure and success. In sports, athletes often watch “game film” of their opponents to discover mistakes teams made when facing the opponent as well as finding ways to defeat them. Remember, in life and in sports the difference between a winner and a loser is: a loser learns from HIS mistake and a winner learns after YOURS

    NBA News & Notes:

    As advertised NBA camps opened this week! The Lakers set to defend their title, while Artest defends his image and Odom defends his marriage! The Celtics simply want KG healthy for a chance to regain the title. The Magic added Vince Carter, Brandon Bass and even Jason “White Chocolate” Williams, to defend their Eastern Conference title. As for the Nuggets well they didn’t add much however J.R. Smith will assume the starting 2-guard position (after he serves a 7-game suspension). As for the Spurs, all they did was add Richard Jefferson and Antonio McDyess to a team that’s always among the elite. In Dallas, they’re prepping to host the 2010 All-Star by adding a former all-star in Shawn Marion. Each team has a story line but the final story written will be decided by their play on the court. Let’s tip things off with a breakdown of a division from each conference.

    EAST: Central (predicted order of finish)

    1. CAVALIERS- With the addition of Shaquille O’Neal the Cavs’ should be penciled in to capture the Central division title, however their goal is to win a NBA title. That will depend on a few things. 1. How focused is Delone West? After battling depression last season he arguably was the best player in the playoffs for the Cavs (not named LeBron). 2. How has LeBron’s jump shot developed? This point is key because Shaq will eventually clog up a lane that LeBron is use to having open to attack the basket. With Shaq’s presence on the court he will demand attention and demand touches! The two will work inside out, but the out isn’t effective if LeBron’s jumper hasn’t improved. Prediction: 62-20
    2. BULLS- Many of you know my love affair with the Bulls is higher than the Sears Tower. But realistically they have no chance of dethroning the Cavs in the central so they will be playing for second. After the lost of their leading scorer for the past four seasons (Ben Gordon) it’s going to be up to Derrick Rose (and Luol Deng) to step up and shoulder the scoring load. We saw what Rose could do in the postseasons. But questions still linger around the health of Luol Deng, and the growth and development of young bigs Tyrus Thomas and Joakim Noah. There seems to be more questions then definite answers around the Bulls but after their first round defeat to the Celtics one would believe that they would take that experience and use it as a launch pad for the upcoming season. Prediction: 44-38
    3. PISTONS- The Pistons had an interesting off-season. After being swept in the playoffs they officially cut ties with G Allen Iverson and signed G Ben Gordon away from their rivals across the Lake in the Bulls. They lost one of their staple pieces in F Rasheed Wallace and replaced him with F Charlie Villanueva (from another division rival in the Bucks). They will rely heavily on a three-guard rotation (Stuckey, Hamilton, Gordon) often playing alongside one another, Kwame Brown (stop laughing) as their center and yes Ben Wallace as their backup…(no really stop laughing). Needless to say the Pistons are in rebuilding mode but they do have enough scoring power to fight off the Bucks & Pacers. Problem is there’s only 1 ball for the 3 guards. Prediction: 40-42
    4. PACERS- I like this young Pacers team however a big issue will be their youth. This is a scrappy team that will feature: T.J. Ford, Dahntay Jones, Danny Granger along with Brandon Rush, Roy Hibbert and Tyler Hansbrough. All are good at what they do solid defensively and Granger is a budding star. Only problem is no one truly draws a double team on the squad so while Granger has the ability to drop 30 on a giving night it will often be in a losing effort. Prediction: 38-44
    5. BUCKS- Milwaukee always seems to be in “rebuilding” mode, with an aging Michael Redd and an injury prone Andrew Bogut coupled with the loss of Ramon Sessions, the Bucks are destined to self-destruct. Scott Skiles will have this team playing hard but the question is for how long? Prediction: 35-47

    WEST: NorthWest

    1. NUGGETS- Last season the Nuggets to the L by storm with their 2nd place finish out west and their fight in the Conference finals with the eventual Finals. This season they’ll have an opportunity to enter camp with Chauncey Billups and pick up where they left off in the ’09 playoffs. But one thing will be different this season. 3-point sensation J.R. Smith will be a starter this season (after the departure of defensive specialist Dahntay Jones). This will give the team a different look without Smith’s dynamic play off the bench. Instead that role will now be reserved for former UCLA Bruin, Arron Afflalo. I myself have concerns about this teams lack of depth but my biggest issue is J.R. in a starting role. Regardless they should have enough firepower to win the NorthWest, but is it enough to conquer the entire West? Prediction: 57-25
    2. BLAZERS- Two years ago the Blazers showed the L they were on the verge of being a playoff team. Last season Greg Oden did his best to contribute and the young Blazers made the playoffs. This season they’ve added veteran PG Andre Miller in hopes of making the playoffs and actually winning a series. Interesting enough Miller himself has never won a series in his career. Its evident this team has a great mixture of talent but their lack of experience is hard to overcome in the competitive West. This team will be tougher this season but if they have to face the Lakers, Nuggets or Spurs in round 1 they still won’t know what it feels like to win a series. Prediction: 51-31
    3. JAZZ- All summer long Carlos Boozer expressed his interest to play for a team NOT located in Utah. But as the Jazz enter training camp Boozer is still on the team. So before one can even imagine the Jazz being a formidable force in the West, the question that must first be answered is will Boozer remain a member of the Jazz? Some may think it doesn’t matter since he was injured most of the season but when you have the ability to post 20+ pts & 20+ reb against the Lakers in the playoffs, its still a big piece to Utah’s puzzle. Assuming he will remain (and play for a new contract) the Jazz will still play hard, run pick-n-rolls and backdoor plays as long as Coach Sloan is on the sideline. So regardless as to what one may think the Jazz opponents better walk into Salt Lake City with their lunch pails. Prediction: 48-34
    4. THUNDER- The Thunder is in a catch 22, they are a good, solid, young team however that only means something if you’re in the East. This team has a great future behind Kevin Durant but to me many of their other pieces are not worthy of building into a contender. Then again neither was Scottie Pippen when he was initially drafted and he’ll be in the Hall of Fame next year. While I’m not ready to crown any of these players as future HOFers, I am saying that this team will be exciting to watch and will lose a lot of close games. Prediction: 30-52
    5. WOLVES- I won’t waste your time (or better yet my time typing) Prediction: 22-60

    *VICK is Just Do-ing IT! Not quite on the field but definitely in the boardrooms. After being indicted 2 years ago, one of the first sponsors to bail on the star was shoe monopoly NIKE. But after his triumph return, the Eagles are no longer the only organization to step up and show that they believe in second chances. For many MV7 fans this is a great day for a man that has paid his debt to society and do all that he can to regain much of what he lost. To the Vick haters well this is just another log on their fire. Let It Burn my friends!

    NFL: PICK 6! WEEK 4 Predictions:  (Bye Week: Falcons, Eagles, Cardinals and Panthers)

    1. (2-1) CHARGERS @ (1-2) STEELERS- The Chargers are a sloppy 2-1 and yet the Steelers lack of finishing games in the 4th quarter have them looking like a well-deserved 1-2 team (despite their Champion label). So with no L.T. for the Chargers and no Polamalu for the Steelers, what will be the difference? Phillip Rivers! Rivers will have to attack the gaping hole left by Troy Polamalu in the secondary. The Steelers are currently experiencing a Super Bowl hangover and the Chargers will not be the aspirin they need to get over it. Prediction: Chargers by 3

    2. (2-1) COWBOYS @ (3-0) BRONCOS- This game will be interesting the Cowboys have looked like three different teams in their first 3 games. As for the Broncos, luck is seemingly on their side as their unblemished record shows. After two straight games in Jerry’s World the ‘Boys will take their show to the Mile High City and make an attempt to hand Denver their first loss of the season. With an injured Felix Jones and a questionable Marion Barber, Dallas’ success will depend solely on the arm of Tony Romo. If you have Jason Witten in fantasy football please start him because he may have 10 catches this week. I digress, something tells me that Denver’s 3-0 starts is a fraud and they will soon be exposed. Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate Orton but I don’t believe in him either. Prediction: Cowboys by 7

    3. (2-1) BENGALS @ (0-3) BROWNS- Please pay attention this game has LET DOWN FACTOR written all over it. Cincy is coming off the huge win over the Steelers heading into the battle of Ohio. Meanwhile the Browns have nothing to lose and will enter Sunday’s game with QB Derek Anderson taking over for Brady Quinn. All strategy will be thrown out the window, the gloves will be taken off and these guys won’t be fighting fair. The Browns would love to get a win and the Bengals may get caught up still relishing in their victory of the Steelers. This game will be entertaining and one that may be settle by a field goal. Prediction: Browns by 3

    4. (3-0) JETS @ (3-0) SAINTS: This game will serve as the ultimate clash between a dynamic Offense and a great Defense. The difference is normally in two phases. 1. QB play. I know many NFL fans have fallen in love with Mark Sanchize but we all know that Drew Brees strikes fear in secondary and throws 400+ yards in his sleep. As for Mark he’s still learning on the job so it’s up to his defense to put him in short field situations giving him a better chance to win. The other key phase involved is location. This game will be played in New Orleans and their dome will be rocking. This game will be exciting if you pick up your phone to send a tweet you may miss the play of the game! Prediction: Saints by 4

    5. (3-0) RAVENS @ (2-1) PATRIOTS: The Ravens have actually been winning more because of their offense as opposed to their defense (okay Ray Lewis did single handedly win a game in week 2) but Joe Flacco threw for 300+ yards in week 1 & 3. That stat is not characteristic for the Ravens and its something they shouldn’t make a habit out of. The Patriots love being involved in shootouts because they have a guy named Brady and a guy named Moss. Those two are salivating at a chance to explode and a match up of this magnitude provides the perfect stage. The Pats have struggled offensively but with Wes Welker back in the lineup look for Brady & Moss to finally arrive in the ’09 season. Prediction: Patriots by 5

    6. (2-1) PACKERS @ (3-0) VIKINGS: As a proud fan of the NFC North I will definitely have my popcorn ready on Monday Night. Two teams that I love to hate will have another reason to destroy one another: Brett Favre. The Packers are sick and tired of playing in his shadow and the Vikings want to prove he’s the missing link to their championship puzzle. So what will give you ask? Adrian Peterson and the home crowd. There are no Xs and Os when it comes to this match up, just emotions and solid play. These two will probably find themselves in a aerial battle with Favre doing his best to teach his ex-student in Aaron Rodgers one more lesson. If you have a prior commitment, then cancel it this game will be worth the 3 hours. Prediction: Vikings by 1

    Just A Thought…

    CRITIQUE or COMPLIMENT…which would you prefer? Everyone loves to be told nice things about themselves, even if they already know/heard these things. But what about something you never knew about yourself (or something you’ve ignored). The thing is no one in life is perfect so WE can all use being critiqued from time to time. In fact a person who seeks critiquing is the one that will ultimately be complimented on their hard work and results. No ball player perfected a jump shot, learned the perfect form tackle and caught up to hitting the toughest curve balls because they were complimented there whole life. In fact, none of those things would have ever been accomplished without a critique. Whether you’re on the job or simply practicing on your passion or craft never shy away from a critique. After all, one can learn more from a critique than they ever could from a compliment.

    NBA News & Notes:

    Where Will Amazing Happen This Year: With NBA Training Camps beginning as early as Saturday, the start of the NBA season is right around the corner. Players have been U-Streaming (Starbury), writing books (Chris Paul), releasing movies (LeBron James) and yes getting hitched (Lamar Odom, still can’t believe this one). Starting next week I will begin to break down teams (division –by-division) in an attempt to predict the order of finish, individual accolades and eventual NBA Champions. Stay tuned.

    *7TH HEAVEN? After being away from the game of football for 2 years, Michael Vick and his spectacular antics will return to the field this Sunday. When Vick was approached about this opportunity he stated that, “this is a dream come true to me.” It’s funny hearing a guy who was once the highest paid player in the NFL make this statement, but one can understand where he’s coming from. With McNabb still nursing a fractured rib it’s likely he won’t play. Vick will not be starting in his place but one can assume he will be used in “Wildcat” formation. “I was the Wildcat originator,” Vick said. “So it’s not foreign territory to me.” And that is what fans cannot wait to see out of Vick. Now I must say its been a minutes since he’s played with the “Varsity” players so it may take a few weeks for the spectacular plays to return, in fact Vick submitted us all a warning. “I understand Superman may not be ready to return.” He said smiling. “But he will in the future.” Oh Thank Heaven for #7!

    STAT OF WEEK: Since 1990, 160 teams began the season 0-2. Only 22 of the teams reached the playoffs. With that said, the Lions, Rams, Bucs, Panthers, Chiefs, Browns, Dolphins, Jaguars and Titans. Of these teams the only one I can see making the playoffs is the Titans, because of their tough defense and run game. As for everyone else get ready for the 2010 draft.

    FANTASY FOOTBALL INJURY REPORT:

    *QB MATT HASSELBECK (Seahawks)- Hasselbeck is suffering from a broken rib (like McNabb) and while its unlikely that he will play this Sunday (vs. Bears) he is “doing all he can” to return this Sunday. If you were trying to figure out what to do my advice would be to bench him this week. Even if Matt does play the chances of the Bears “D” aggravating that broken rib or forcing him into turnovers is very likely. Besides the Seahawks have so many injured players they can’t afford to lose their leader for a long period of time so one week seems likely.

    *QB DONOVAN McNABB (Eagles)- After missing the last game with a fractured rib, McNabb sat out of practice Wednesday. With Michael Vick being activated to the roster this gives Andy Reid and the Eagles another weapon to at least use in the Wildcat formation. McNabb wants to play (like every other NFL player) but all signs point to No. Stay away from Mc5 this week, as he’s likely to sit out against the 0-2 Chiefs.

    *RB ADRIAN PETERSON: The NFL leading rusher was limited in practice due to a sore back. A.P. did take a nice shot in the back against the Lions that’s probably got him pretty sore. But something tells me when the Vikings visit the 49ers he’ll magically be 100% again and running wild. Until you see A.P. listed as OUT on the injury report you’ve got to start him!

    *WR WES WELKER: Tom Brady’s “easy” button in Welker missed last Sunday’s game with a knee injury. As a result, the Patriots never reached the end zone. Welker is expected to play this Sunday vs. the Falcons so look for Brady to lean on Welker to open things up for Moss down the field. I know Brady struggled last week but one has to expect him to get things going this week at home and Welker will be a big reason for the passing game’s success. He’s a must start!

    NFL: PICK 6! WEEK 3 Predictions: Week 2 was a bit rough. I went 3-3 in my Pick 6 predictions, however my upset special (Bears OVER Steelers) was correct and kept my head above mediocre waters. Here’s a look into week 3 of the NFL.

    1. (2-0) FALCONS @ (1-1) PATRIOTS- One of the NFC’s most balanced teams in the Falcons will travel East to face the Pats. Atlanta coming off two convincing home wins will face a Patriots team that has holes on defense and timing still seems to be off on “O”. Look for New England to be more polished at every facet of the game after nearly beginning the season 0-2. Their first two games were against division foes so one has to expect the outings to be tough. As for the Falcons they run the ball to open up passing lanes for Matty Ice. However, against a Belichick scheme things will have to be mixed up. Thing is I’m sure the Falcons will be leaning on Michael Turner and Tony Gonzalez to keep Brady & Co. off the field. If the Falcons can when the Time of Possession game they have a chance to get the W. As for the Patriots they’ve got to convert more 3rd Downs to put pressure on the young Matt Ryan to make plays with his arm. This should be a very good game. Prediction: Patriots by 4

    2. (0-2) PANTHERS @ (1-1) COWBOYS- Last season the Panthers had the best record in the NFC and now they can’t seem to win a game. As for the Cowboys more attention has been set on the jumbotron in “Jerry’s World” than it has been on the potential for the Cowboys to reach the Super Bowl. Tony Romo looked great against the Bucs’ then went back to Tony “Oh-No” against the Giants and their tough front 7. Many critics (including Cowboys great Tony Dorsett) have called Romo out so I expect for him to bounce back on Monday Night against Carolina. As for the Panthers Jake Delhomme has thrown 10 interceptions in his last 3 games (dating back to the playoffs) and the Panthers running game has not been as effective as it once was. If Carolina can get Stewart & Williams going on the ground things may become a bit easier for Delhomme in the air. As for the Cowboys they rushed for over 200 yards against the Giants but could not overcome Romo’s three INT’s. So which QB can make fewer mistakes under the bright lights? My guess is Tony Romo, but that’s assuming his team wins the rushing game. Prediction: Cowboys by 3

    3. (2-0) COLTS @ (1-1) CARDINALS- If you love an aerial attack you should be glued to the television on Sunday night. The Peyton Manning’s will travel to Arizona to take on a Cardinals team that lives and dies by their aerial attack. Two former Super Bowl MVP’s will face off in the desert. Now that the table has been set let’s make on thing clear, no one and I mean NO ONE can orchestrate a passing attack like the great Peyton “Cannon” Manning!!! I know Warner has two great wideouts in Fitzgerald & Boldin but Kurt is the x-factor due to his fight against father time! This game will be very entertaining and while I admit this is a trap game for the Colts after facing the ball controlling wildcat Dolphins Monday night and now will be faced with stopping the Cards’ passing attack in the desert but as many saw on Monday all Manning need is a quarter to win a game. So why should things be different this time around? Prediction: Colts by 6

    4. (1-1) STEELERS @ (1-1) BENGALS: The AFC North will feature a battle between the hard-hitting Steelers and the never know what you’re gonna get Bengals. Pittsburgh is coming off a lost against the Bears (in Chicago) whereas the Bengals are fresh off a victory against the Packers (in Green Bay) so how will things play out this week (in Cincinnati)? Pittsburgh’s biggest problem is that they can’t run the ball. Due to their inability to rely on their running game leads to more time for their defense (minus Polamalu) to remain on the field. If the Steelers can’t control the clock this will allow Palmer & Co. to attack the Steelers secondary. As for the Bengals, they showed how effective their running game could be on the shoulders of RB Cedric Benson. Benson seems to be motivated as a rusher and he’s showing why the Bears drafted him so high. If the Bengals can continue to move the ball on the ground Chad OchoCinco will be doing his best to make Steelers corners “kiss the baby.” This game will be entertaining but if things stay close the overall better team will come out with the W. Prediction: Steelers by 5

    5. (0-2) TITANS @ (2-0) JETS: I don’t know what’s more surprising to me. The fact that the Titans are winless or the Jets are undefeated. Granted it’s only week 3 of the season but last year the Titans didn’t lose a game until week 12 and the Jets seem seasoned despite the fact that a rookie is running the offense. But this is when adjustments are made. The Jets will be facing the L.D.F. better known as the Let Down Factor. After coming off the big win against division rival Patriots, the Jets will welcome the Titans (coming off two close crushing losses) to Giants stadium to see whose record is truly a reflection of their team. The Titans defense will place pressure on the young Sanchez like he’s never seen thus far and the Titans run game will keep Rex Ryan’s blitzing attack off balanced. The Jets have to be careful about this one because the Titans know that a 0-3 start spells N-F-L Lottery! Something no team wants to face this early in the season. Prediction: Titans by 10

    6. (2-0) 49ers @ (2-0) VIKINGS: Here is the preview of the NFC Championship game…okay so I’m only joking but by the looks of their record some weird journalist will begin a story with those very words this week. The Niners revamped defense lead by LB Patrick Willis will visit the Vikings and attempt to slow down Adrian Peterson. So far the ‘Niners have looked more impressive at 2-0 than their opponents (Vikings). I expect San Fran to be motivated to prove to the NFL world that they are serious this year and can easily be the Cardinals to squeak out their division and surprise some team(s) in the postseason. Keep your eyes on the scores scrolling across the screen Sunday, the final may shock you.  Prediction: Vikings by 3

    *Madden Curse? Before opening night could conclude the “Madden Curse” seem to strike again! The Steelers All-Pro Safety, Troy Polamalu, seem to pull off the play of the week with his one handed (left at that) interception but he eventually would leave the game with a sprain MCL. Fortunately for Steelers fans he’ll only be out for 3-6 weeks and not much longer.

    *IN HIBERNATION: The Chicago Bears opened its regular season on Sunday Night in Lambeau Field against its rivals. While bad blood and hard hits is to be expected in a match-up of this magnitude the Bears would lose the heart and soul of its defense in

    Brian Urlacher. The Middle LB dislocated his right wrist and was eventually placed on Injured Reserve (so he will miss the entire season). What you want see on the injury report is Bears QB Jay Cutler who is reported to have a “bruised ego” after tossing 4 Interceptions…

     *EAGLES LANDING? As for the Philadelphia Eagles they lost their leader in QB Donovan McNabb to a fractured rib after scoring a rushing TD. The Eagles however signed veteran Jeff Garcia and activated Michael Vick so regardless as to how long McNabb will sit they have plenty of guys to fill the void under center.

    *POWDER BLUE(S)? There was some question as to why LaDanian Tomlinson was on the sideline for most of the fourth quarter and mainly on the final scoring drive. Rumors swirled that it was signs that the team was moving in the “Sproles” direction but that couldn’t be further from the truth. L.T. was sidelined for a sprained ankle and apparently the ESPN sideline crew didn’t pick that up because Mike Golic and Steve Young were too busy trying to prove who had more “NFL Knowledge” in the booth!

     

    NFL: PICK 6! WEEK 2 Predictions: Week 1 I finished with a 4-2 record. I was snubbed by a late Steelers rally and Cutler’s 4 INTs. This week will be a bit tougher but I’m sure we can tackle the competition!

    1. (0-1) PANTHERS @ (1-0) FALCONS- The only QB to play worse than Jay Cutler in week 1 was Panthers QB Jake Delhomme. Jake threw 5 picks and had a fumble that was returned for a TD. That’s 9 picks in the last two games that he’s played which means mentally he’s trying to make all things better in his very next throw! If Coach Fox can’t establish the run in the Georgia Dome this will be another long Sunday for Carolina. The Falcons seem to click at every facet of the game against the ‘Fins. New acquisition TE Tony Gonzalez seems to be right at home with the rejuvenated “dirty birds”. Last season NFC South teams all failed to win a game on the road in the division. The way things are looking for both teams I find it hard to believe things will change this week. Prediction: Falcons by 4

    2. (1-0) PATRIOTS @ (1-0) JETS- Question? Which is easier to believe, a struggling PATS “O” with Brady, Moss & Welker or a dominating JETS team led by rookie QB Mark Sanchez? Still puzzled? Don’t worry because this Sunday things will go back to normal. While the Patriots looked a bit rusty on offense and was exposed defensively one has to believe that a week of preparation and game film will allow the Brady Bunch to get their timing down. As for the J-E-T-S, they seem to have most of their attention focused on saving face for their new head coach Rex Ryan. Ryan has stated that he’s not interested in kissing Bill Belichick’s rings, blah blah blah, but no one ever said he had too. The fact of the matter is he’s doing all he can to protect his young QB by thrusting himself in the spotlight to avoid Sanchez for handling the NY Media for a few days. That’s all fine and dandy but the game must go on when things kick off at the Meadowlands. And when the Patriots begin to light up the score board the only thing the Jets can do to respond is passing the ball, this could spell disaster for the rook Prediction: Patriots by 10

    3. (1-0) SAINTS @ (1-0) EAGLES- In week 1 it seemed as if Drew Brees completed a pass to everyone but himself and Chris Paul! Brees’ 6 TD performance made fantasy owners rejoice across the nation however this is reality! The reality is that the Saints will travel to a hostile Eagles stadium and welcomed by a defense that will pressure Brees by any means necessary. With the health of McNabb in question Philly will give the Saints various looks to keep their defense on their heels and on the field. The key to this game will be time of possession. If the Eagles can keep this stat in their favor they should succeed in bringing Brees out of the video game world and back to the turf. This is a tough game to call but someone has to win, why not be the…Prediction: Eagles by 1

    4. (0-1) CARDINALS @ (0-1) JAGUARS: The Cardinals fell short against their NFC West foe 49ers. They travel to Jacksonville to play another 0-1 team looking to get there first win of the season. The Cards seem to be rusty on offense and the Jags seem to not have much of an offense at all. The team that can get their passing attack going will have the better opportunity at getting the W. With that said I’m willing to place my Mac on Larry Fitzgerald & Anquan Boldin. Prediction: Cardinals by 7

    5. (1-0) GIANTS @ (1-0) COWBOYS: Prediction: The tough NFC East is back at it again! The Giants & Cowboys both looked pretty impressive in week 1 and the winner of this match-up would have a great head start on the division race. The Giants are fresh off defeating the ‘Skins and the Cowboys simple demolished Tampa. So which was more impressive? I’d have to say…the Giants. The biggest reason is the health of Osi Umenyiora. Not only did Osi play with his usual high motor for 60 minutes but he managed to sack, strip and recover a ball for a TD that had him back to his ’07 form. The Cowboys on the other hand had a 5th pre-season game of some sorts as they dominated a young rebuilding Bucs squad. Nevertheless Tony Romo seems to mesh well with his revamped receiving corps (mainly Roy Williams). But now things are different. The two NFC East titans will meet in the new Texas Stadium in front of 100K fans eager to see the ‘Boys return to prominence. The Giants defense seems to be fast and strong as usual and their RB tandem of Jacobs & Bradshaw are powerful and speedy. As for the Cowboys they won’t be considered a contender until they can pick apart this Giants “D”. Unfortunately that’s easier said than done. Look for Eli Manning to earn his new contract this week guiding those young receivers up and down the field. Prediction: Giants by 7

    6. (1-0) RAVENS @ (1-0) CHARGERS: Just when we all (well not me) wanted to label Joe Flacco a “fluke” he turned in his first 300-yard passing game of his career to begin the ’09 season. As for the Chargers just when many experts (including myself) wanted to “Crown ‘em”  (Dennis Green voice) they nearly laid an egg on Monday Night against the Raiders! L.T. is hurt (again) and Merriman seems to be still dragging that repaired knee. So the Ravens are a sure-fire pick, right? Not quite. The Ravens will take their unpredictable offense across country and face a Chargers team that still has a lot to prove after being manhandled at the line of scrimmage versus the (gulp) Rai-duhs. This will definitely be a hard-hitting game and not many points will be scored. The key to victory in this game will be special teams and field position. If I had to choose one I’d definitely go with Darren Sproles & Co. for the Chargers. It seems like no matter what Sproles will find a hole. This game may be low scoring but emotions will run high and look for QB Phillip Rivers to go all Phillip Riiiiivers (LL Cool J Voice) on the Ravens to win on by a field goal! Prediction: Chargers by 3
