Just A Thought... Go 4 What You Know...Since the Favre of July the sports world has been dominated with Packers headlines. Would he stay retired? Would he return? Should they let him back? Should he shut up and fish? One thing's for sure Favre always knew he wanted to return but whispers from players, fans and family often would seep into his mind (coupled with being a play away from the Super Bowl) and forced him into an early decision to retire. In life times will get hard, whether you threw six interceptions in a game or failed to make six consecutive sales at work you have to stay committed to want you know and love and never give up. The moment you allow a failed attempt to run you away from your love and or passion is the moment that you've truly failed in life. Till then go for what you know and never let anyone tell you any different, take it from Brett he knew he wanted to return and not even $25 Million could convince him otherwise.
I. NFL Divisional Breakdowns (AFC West) This week we're headed out West to a division full of teams that LOVE to HATE one another. The Raiders hate the Chiefs...The Chargers hate the Broncos and the rest of the L Loves to watch them tear one another apart. Will the division continue to be controlled by Tomlinson & Co.? Will Jay Cutler take his game to another level? Or, will Jamarcus Russell and Darren McFadden blossom into what many feel they will be...the leaders of the Black hole? Those answers and more...let's take a look... (2007 record)
- CHARGERS (2007: 11-5): Last season the Bolts started out rocky with a shaky win against the Bears in their opener followed by a thrashing at the hands of the Patriots in week 2. But by mid-season San Diego managed to recharge their batteries en route to an 11 win season and an appearance in the Conference title game. L.T. led the league in rushing yet again and Gates was among the league leaders among Tight Ends but the likes of Merriman and Phillips dwindled as the season wore on. This season will be viewed through more of a microscope with Tomlinson coming off an injury and the loss of his backup Michael Turner in Free Agency. Nevertheless every good football team is lead by a good QB. After Phillip Rivers' gutsy performance in the playoffs he not only earned the respect of his teammates but from his opponents. As a result, Rivers has to mesh with the likes of Chris Chambers along with Gates to stretch the field and allow L.T. even more space to roam. Also, look for Cromartie to become even more dangerous in the secondary with an opportunity to start the entire season at the corner position. This year it won't be how they finish but rather how they start in order for them to develop a momentum that may lead them to a Super Bowl come February. Prediction: 12-4
- BRONCOS (2007: 7-9): Mike Shanahan & Co. suffered an uncharacteristic losing season in '07. Some can be placed on injuries but most of it should be placed on the development of young talent. That was then. Now, Cutler is entering his third season in they system along with a proven wideout in the lineup in Brandon Marshall (if he can stay out of a police lineup). After releasing RB Travis Henry Coach Shanahan has placed the workload on second year player Selvin Young. Young is very dynamic and given the room in this famous zone blocking system he should continue the tradition of a 1,000-yard back in the mile high city. Of course the running game will speak for itself but with an aging defense (coupled with the loss of Safety John Lynch) the question is will they be able to stop the run? That should be answered soon enough. Prediction: 9-7
- CHIEFS (2007: 4-12): Say what you want but being featured on Hard Knocks last season had nothing to do with the dismal performance by the Chiefs. In fact, their presence on the HBO series informed us that the Chiefs still had a pulse. After a year of QB limbo, Coach Edwards settled on Brodie Croyle. Brodie finished the season off well developing a special connection with Dwayne Bowe, the rookie out of LSU. One year later the two have had an opportunity to grow in the system and coupled with a healthy Larry Johnson (and yes even Tony Gonzalez) the Chiefs should make an impact within the division. That's the offense. As for the defense the draft selection of Glen Dorsey lets us all know that they're focus is now on the development of their front four. The Chiefs will be competitive simply because they are a Herman Edwards team but passion doesn't equate to victories in the NFL talent and execution does. Prediction: 6-10
- RAIDERS (2007: 4-12): On paper the Raiders are really beginning to resemble a competitive football team. But the amount of money spent does not always manifest into divisional titles. On offense all eyes will be on the second year QB JaMarcus Russell. Russell had an entire off-season to work with the first team offense and will be joined by Justin Fargas and rookie sensation Darren McFadden in the backfield. The question mark will be the newly acquired WR Javon Walker. Not because of his physical injury rather his injured mentality. After witnessing a teammate (Darrent Williams) being killed at the end of the '06 season and recently being mugged during the off-season in Las Vegas rumors swirled that Walker contemplated retirement. As for the defense the acquisition of CB DeAngelo Hall (coupled with Nnamdi Asomugha) expectations will be set high as they attempt to become the best corner tandem in the L. Regardless as to what is said in the media this team is young and will need time to gel. Hopefully those recent days of being the league's doormat will soon come to an end because regardless of talent it appears as if they are still trapped in their proverbial "black hole", at least that's how it seems on paper.Prediction: 5-11
