Just A Thought…OPPORTUNITY: Are you preparing for your big break? Or are you waiting for your two-minute warning? One must prepare for the opportunity in life because it often comes unannounced and appears when you least expect it. In life, the window of opportunity may open when the initial door of opportunity shuts! When you’re working opportunity comes in the form of an ill co-worker (unfortunately), poor performing superior and that one-day you filled in because no one else wanted to. In sports, opportunity comes in the form of injuries, slumping teammates, retirement and flat out timing. Without the services of Richard Hamilton in Detroit, Will Bynum was presented with the opportunity to showcase his talents to the NBA World. If Tom Brady never missed the entire ’08 season then career backup Matt Cassell wouldn’t have his own team now in Kansas City. In life and in sports one must always be ready for their time to shine. Who knows if you seize the moment you may just blind the entire world!
NFL: PICK 6! WEEK 11 Predictions: Last week was tough on my predictions! I finished 7-6 overall (and yes I did call the Panthers upset over the Falcons and had Brady thrown the ball the Moss I’d be 8-5 and that would sound a whole lot better! Nevertheless, I don’t fault “The Hoodie” for going for it on 4th & 2 because no matter where you are on the field if you give Peyton Manning a chance to win, he will seize the Opportunity! Enough with the pep talks here’s a look into Kevin’s Week 1l predictions!
1. (4-5) DOLPHINS @ (4-5) PANTHERS- Ronnie Brown has been ruled out for the remainder of the season but that doesn’t mean the Wildcat will be placed on IR with him! In fact, Brown’s injury may make the WC that more dangerous with increased snaps of a true run/pass threat in backup QB Pat White. The Panthers will have the chance to showcase their old fashioned rushing attack to the nation tonight as they host the Dolphins. Both teams boast 4-5 records and looking to be revived from NFL life support. Can Welcome & Steve Smith continue their lethal connection? Or will the Dolphins continue their innovative ways offensively placing pressure on the Panthers defense on a short week to prepare? My gut feeling favors Miami but my mind is leaning towards to experience and continuity of Delhomme & Smith. This game will be more entertaining than one thinks and should come down to the wire. Prediction: PANTHERS by 3
2. (5-4) FALCONS @ (5-4) GIANTS- Although the Falcons and Giants are both 5-4 they managed to get to this point on two totally different paths. The Falcons started the season hot before losing against the Cowboys and most recently to their Panthers. However, Atlanta’s biggest lost may be RB Michael Turner. The Giants won their first 5 games of the season before doing a complete 180 and dropping their last 4. As the G-Men come off their bye to host a banged up Falcons squad Eli & Co. will look to get back to their roots of smash mouth football. Look for a heavy dose of Brandon Jacobs & Ahmad Bradshaw. Eli needs to get the running game going to open up passing lanes for he and his receivers. As for Matt Ryan he’s struggled with blitzes in the past few weeks and his inexperience as shown in stretches. Without a healthy Turner it will be tough for Ryan to keep the offense honest. Look for New York to come out short and end their losing skid. Prediction:GIANTS by 7
3. (9-0) COLTS @ (5-4) RAVENS-After a 60-minute slugfest with the Patriots, the Colts will travel to their former home in Baltimore. Peyton will take his high-powered offense to face a Ravens defense that seemed to have found their swagger against the Brown (stop laughing). Nevertheless, Indy managed to wipe out a 17-point deficit last week to maintain their unblemished record. Now the Colts have the AFC bulls eye on their chest. Baltimore will send everything Peyton’s way in an attempt to disrupt his offense but the fact that the Ravens are the same old Ravens on defense (Terrell Suggs will miss this game) Peyton should have his way with the Ravens. Besides the Colts offense is on a bad day can still score more than these Baltimore Ravens. This game may be low scoring but the outcome shouldn’t shock you. Prediction: COLTS by 8
4. (4-5) JETS @ (6-3) PATRIOTS: In the first match up between the two teams the Jets played inspired football and knocked off Brady and a struggling Patriots offense. But now New England seems to be clicking on all cylinders (except on 4th & 2) so they will look to seek revenge on the mouthy J-E-T-S. Moss was said to have been “shut down” by Revis, according to Bart Scott so those comments and the fact that New England loss in the Meadowlands will be used for motivation. Look for New England to come out aggressively in an attempt to erase their memories of last week’s meltdown and they won’t take their foot off their gas till the scoreboard post 0:00 to end the game. Pats win in a big way. Prediction: PATRIOTS by 14
5. (6-3) CHARGERS @ (6-3) BRONCOS: Don’t look now but the Chargers and Broncos are currently tied atop the AFC West division. Denver began the season 6-0 and seemed primed for not only a division title but also a deep playoff run. Now they’ve lost their last 3 games and most recently their QB Kyle Orton. During their 6-0 start their defense seemed to play a major role in their victories and now its been exposed on many angles. The Chargers on the other hand feel like they can’t be stop and we’ve even had a few LaDanian Tomlinson sightings on previous Sunday’s. WR Vincent Jackson continues to fly under the radar and Phillip Rivers continues to lead his team to victories. Look for the Chargers to play inspired after losing their game at home against the Broncos whereas Denver’s offense will be out of sync. Not only is Chris Simms taking over the QB duties but the fact that he’s a left-hander will pose an entirely new obstacle for his backs and receivers since every will change completely from Orton’s right handed ways. This may be the game of the week…well that is if you’re a Chargers fan.Prediction: CHARGERS by 3
6. (5-4) EAGLES @ (4-5) BEARS: As a Bears fan tuning in on Sunday night is the closest thing to torture. This season the Monsters of the Midway have been a complete embarrassment on primetime TV, going 0-3 (at Packers, at Falcons and at ‘Niners) in night games. But this week things should change as they finally get to host a primetime game. Chicago will be hosting a banged up Eagles squad who will be without one of McNabb’s favorite targets in RB Brian Westbrook (concussion). The Eagles is a squad with an identity: PASS, PASS, PASS! So with Westbrook out of the lineup that should spell MORE PASS! If the Bears can manage to get their running game going and maintain a balanced attack things should work in their favor. Last week the Bears defense seem to have been clicking on all angles holding the ‘Niners to 10 points despite Cutler’s (Gulp) 5 INTs, did I mention that was also on primetime TV? If Cutler figures out a way to limit his mistakes and the Bears front seven can disrupt McNabb’s timing preventing big plays down field this game will be very entertaining to watch. Prediction: BEARS by 3

NBA: Starting 5: My weekly take on the best of the best on the hardwood! (Top 5: Role Players)
JOAKIM NOAH: The heart and soul of the Bulls defense also leads the L in rebounding with 12.4 rpg. He also leads the league in longest ponytail!
JAMAL CRAWFORD: Jamal is the Hawks second leading scorer and his their 6th Man. Averaging 16.6 ppg Crawford can outscore most opposing benches on any given night.
WILL BYNUM: Will “The Thrill” has been instant offense in a Pistons uniform. Thus far he’s filled in nicely for the injured Rip Hamilton doubling his scoring from last season with 15.0 ppg and a few nasty dunks every other night!
CHANNING FRYE: I myself thought he was FRIED in regards to his NBA career. But it was somehow resurrected in the Phoenix dessert. Frye has knocked down 35 3-pointers this season as opposed to the 20 threes he made in his previous 4 seasons combined!
UDONIS HASLEM: UD was the starting PF for the Heat title squad in ’06. He was asked to come off the bench behind Michael Beasley how did he respond? By simply averaging 12 points 10 rebounds per night. That’s leadership!
FREE-THROWS!: Weekly News & Notes
NFL MVP Race: There are three clear-cut horses in the MVP Race, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and as tough as it is for me to admit Brett Favre.
*Favre deserves kudos for his current 17 TD to only 3 INTs. However, Brett is eliminated from the early running because of the great Adrian Peterson lined up behind Favre taking pressure off Favre’s throws. Not to mention the Vikings have one of the toughest defenses in the NFC preventing Favre from having to light up the scoreboard for a W.
*Brees on the other hand has led his team to an undefeated record, well kind of. You see on defense they also have a Defensive POY candidate in Darren Sharper. Sharper currently leads the league with 7 INT and 4 have been returned for TDs. So, while Drew continues to put up points his defense has had to bail him out the past few weeks.
*Manning: But when it comes to #18 for the Colts it seems as if Peyton puts the M in MVP for Manning! The Machine currently leads the league in TD (20) and Pass Yards (2,812) and if you ever doubt his greatness and how valuable he his to the Colts keep in mind Coach Belichick didn’t even want to punt the ball to the guy because he knew Peyton would lead his team the victory if given the chance. There’s still a lot of Football left but my MVP in the first 10 weeks of the season has to be PEYTON MANNING.
Riding the OAK: The opposite of Peyton Manning is JaMarcus Russell. Russell was benched in the past 2 games do to poor play so this week Coach Cable decided to save everyone in the Bay Area the trouble by demoted Russell and placing him on the bench for the upcoming game against the Bengals. While JaMarcus isn’t the sole blame for the Raiders woes his 2 TD 9 INT and a mere 1,067 yards doesn’t quite say QB of the future either.
Rush Order: Just a week after being released from the Chiefs, RB Larry Johnson signed with the Bengals on Tuesday after watching Cincy sweep the Steelers for the season series. #27 went from the 2-7 Chiefs to the 7-2 Bengals and in case you were wondering Johnson will have the chance to face his old team on Dec. (you guessed it) 27th. Cedric Benson was assured that he is not in danger of losing his starting job although he is currently nursing a sore hip.
HOT-Lanta! Back to the Hardwood, don’t look now but the best team in the NBA (after 11 games) is the Atlanta Hawks! The Hawks are the first 10 win team in the East and a currently on a 6 game winning streak (biggest win being at Boston). The Hawks are a balanced team featuring 5 players averaging double figures (points). Atlanta is currently undefeated at home but what’s more impressive is their 4-2 record. Last year they won 47 games but their toughest obstacle was winning games on the road. If the Hawks can continue to soar away from the Highlight Factory they will land a spot amongst the top 3 in the East.
Looking for the Answer! After only 3 games in a Grizzles uniform Allen Iverson (and the Grizzles) mutually agreed to end their union on Beale Street. Iverson obviously had issues with coming off the bench for team rebuilding like Memphis as opposed to a contender. Their have been rumblings from the Knicks organization that they would discuss internally about the possibility of adding Iverson to D’Antoni’s 7 seconds or less system. It seems as if the Madison Square Garden’s Answer to a lack of excitement would come in the form of the 6-foot Iverson. Others believe the NBA would like to see the corn rolled, tattooed trendsetter fade away like Starbury but he still has too much gas in the tank to retire into a junkyard.
The GREAT Debate: Should Michael Jordan’s #23 be retired throughout the NBA? If you ask LeBron James, Magic Johnson, Phil Jackson, Chris Webber, Steve Smith and Kenny Smith they’d all say yes. But there are many more who disagree. Some feel as if MJ had not done as much as Wilt, Bill Russell, Magic & Larry etc did for the game however they do agree that Jordan is the greatest to play the game. I myself grew up in Chicago so it’s tough for me NOT to be bias. Many fans only had the chance to see Mike play on Sunday’s (on NBC) when I had the chance 82 times a year. If you ask me, he’s the ONLY Shooting Guard to lead a dynasty (w/o a All-Star center). Jordan made the game global (hence players like Turkoglu being known as the “M.J. of Turkey”). Lastly there’s no disrespect to players like Magic, Wilt, Bill or Bird but to me Jordan was on an entirely different level. In any sport there are many great players but when it comes to hockey, there’s only one Wayne Gretzky. In boxing there was Mike Tyson, Larry Holmes, George Foreman, etc. but there’s still only one Muhammad Ali. Every sport has greats but every sport also has the greatest! There are many ways to travel across the world. From walking, biking, train, car but the best way to get across the world is by plane and as we all know Michael Jordan could truly FLY! Want to know what it was like for players defending MJ in a playoff series…see below.
SAY WHAT!!! (Tweets of the Week)

Just A Thought…DIFFERENCE MAKER: In pro sports everyone is talented, everyone has obtained the same basic principles. When you play defense one must slide there feet to remain in perfect position. In sports one doesn’t get better in season they get better in the off-season. In pro sports each team is provided with the same equipment, training staff, medical attention, chartered flights and fat contracts. So for instance, on NFL Sunday when a team can easily move the ball up the field and the opposing defense seems to be invisible there’s a difference maker between the two. More specifically when a team like the Chicago Bears, who was built on their defense, allows two QB’s to throw 5 TDs in two of their last three games (and each win player of the week) when the last time a QB threw 5 TDs was in 1995 there is a difference. When a Bears DT (Tommie Harris) is ejected for punching an opposing player just 4 plays into the game last Sunday, there’s a difference between Tommie and the player he hit. So what’s the difference one asks? It’s not their cleats, shoulder pads, helmets, chinstraps or game plans, it’s simple a HEART. You see in life and in sports the difference between a participant and a champion is the size of their heart. So remember when facing an obstacle play with a lot of Heart and you’ll love your results!
NFL: PICK 6! WEEK 10 Predictions: Last week was interesting. The Saints & Colts both avoided their first loss. The power in the NFC East has shifted south…to the Cowboys! Out West the Broncos lost for the second straight week while the Chargers picked up a big win on the East Coast against the Giants. As we head into the second half of the season let’s take a look at what teams will continue to ascend and which teams will position them for the April draft! Bye Week: Giants and Texans
1. (4-4) BEARS @ (3-5) ‘NINERS- “We will destroy their front seven.”Words uttered by 49ers TE Vernon Davis after viewing tape of the Chicago Bears beat down at the hands of the Arizona Cardinals. Strong words coming from a team that’s 0-4 after their 3-1 start. Strong words coming from a TE who can’t contribute on the defensive side of the ball where San Fran has a lot of injuries. Both teams had high aspirations at the beginning of the season and both teams seemed destined for playoff berths but after being hit by a rash of injuries and torched by opposing offenses both teams NEED this victory to have any hope of playing in January. So what’s the difference between the two teams with banged up defenses? An offense that clicks! And despite what one may think the Bears offense (when the O-Line is clicking) is a much better offense than the 49ers “O” that recently started QB Alex Smith and rookie holdout WR Michael Crabtree. With a short week of preparation each team should move the ball fairly well but Bears QB Jay Cutler must prove to the National TV Audience once and for all why Chicago traded away there future for his cannon of an arm. So if you’re looking for a Defensive battle between Mike Singletary and his former team, I’m sorry you’re looking at the wrong game. As for Vernon Davis the spotlight will shine brighter than ever, let’s see if he backs up his words. Prediction: BEARS by 5
2. (6-2) BENGALS @ (6-2) STEELERS-Here we are the second Sunday in November and the Bengals and Steelers will face off for the leg up in the AFC North. The first time the two met the Bengals fired on all cylinders and there offense ran the Steelers (w/o Polamalu) off the field. But now Cincy will travel the Heinz Field where all QB’s struggle merely at the sight of the arena. The Steelers “D” seems to be back up to its Super Bowl status of last season and will make it tough for RB Cedric Benson to find any daylight to run through. With no Chris Henry as a deep threat Chad OchoCinco will find that he will receive more attention in coverage and therefore tougher to celebrate in the end zone. The Steelers will control this game and reclaim control of their division. Prediction:STEELERS by 7
3. (5-3) FALCONS @ (3-5) PANTHERS-At first glance one would assume that this match up would be placed under the Sure Fire category in favor of the Falcons. But somehow the Panthers have revived their running game and have been making things a lot tougher for their opponents in the past weeks. After holding off a feisty Redskins squad the Falcons will travel to Carolina where they always seem to struggle to face a division rival that has nothing to lose. Looking for Carolina’s two-headed running back tandem to out play Michael Turner and put pressure on Matt Ryan to win the game with his arm. The Falcons will have their hands full and should be on upset alert! Prediction: PANTHERS by 3
4. (6-2) COWBOYS @ (4-4) PACKERS: When it comes to the Cowboys and Packers both teams seem to be headed in two different directions. At one point Dallas seemed to be destined to miss yet another postseason whereas the Packers started the season hot and in position to fight for their division title. Now Dallas is atop the NFC East and the Packers are on NFL life support after dropping two games to the Vikings. Dallas run game on the shoulders of Marion Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice is one that is peaking and comes at you in waves, which is a big reason Tony Romo has been able to limit his mistakes. As for the Packers their offensive line as been seemingly absent as Aaron Rodgers seems to be picking himself up off the turf more than he’s picked apart opposing defenses. This game will have highs and lows for both teams but looking for the Cowboys to have more highs and the Pack to have more lows. Prediction: COWBOYS by 7
5. (5-3) EAGLES @ (5-3) CHARGERS: The San Diego Chargers begin their annual second half run to the playoffs after a slow start to the season. As for the Eagles they are always as unpredictable as their injury report. The differences for the Bolts have been their ability to be selfless. Apparently on a key drive against the Giants RB Ladanian Tomlinson felt that a certain play call would have been better suited for Darren Sproles and told Darren to get in on that play. It led to a key first down and the eventual road win. As for the Eagles they are too one-dimensional needed to convert 3rd and shorts through the air. This makes them tough to defend from 20 to 20 but when the Eagles get in the red zone they tend to struggle. With the Chargers only a game behind the Broncos they will do their best to keep pace by knocking off the Eagles. This game will be very entertaining and if the Eagles don’t do their best to incorporate their secret weapon in Michael Vick (since Brian Westbrook is injured) the Chargers may find yet another way to win. Prediction: CHARGERS by 3
6. (6-2) PATRIOTS @ (8-0) COLTS: Every season there is a regular season version of the Super Bowl and for the past few seasons its been a game between the Patriots and Colts. Brady & Manning have faced off more times against one another than they have against any other opposing signal caller. Early on the Patriots dominated this series but Manning and the Colts have managed to win 4 of the last 5 games versus the Patriots. After a slow start to the season the Patriots boast a 6-2 record and seem primed for a postseason run. As for the Colts they have been nothing short of a well-oiled machine throughout the season by filling roles on each side of the ball as various players have been bit by the injury bug. With that said who has the advantage this Sunday night? Well, the Patriots of course. Indy comes in to week 10 missing 3 of their 4 starting DB’s including Safety Bob Sanders. The Brady Bunch will have their eyes set on reaching the end zone by any means necessary. Obviously Peyton will do his best to keep Brady off the field with a balanced attack but if the game is close and the Pats have the ball last the Colts may be looking at their first loss of the 09 season. Prediction: PATRIOTS by 3

NBA: Starting 5: My weekly take on the best of the best on the hardwood!
*This week it’s my top 5 SCORERS in the NBA!
Kobe Bryant: Kobe can score 50+ at will. His ability to face up, score out of the post and beat guys off the dribble makes him such a threat.
Carmelo Anthony: Carmelo uses his 6’9 frame to raise up above his opponents and shoot over them. He also uses his strength in the paint to get guys to give up their leverage and spin off of them to attack the rim.
Dwyane Wade: D. Wade has used his quickness to get to the basket from the day that he enter the NBA. But his much improved jump shot has instilled confidence that he can score from any spot on the court. But his ability to get to the basket puts pressure on the defense so even on a bad shooting night, Wade can get 20 from the free throw line.
LeBron James: LeBron is obviously gifted with the ideal makeup of height+strength+quickness=BUCKETS. LBJ can score against a double team due to his strength and the more his confidence grows in a game the further out his range becomes.
Kevin Durant: Baby Ice (nicknamed by Steve Smith for baby George Gervin) is probably the smoothest scorer of them all. Durant is a legit 6’10 and range so extensive the refs would whistle him for backcourt. KD can score from anywhere on the court and when he enhances his strength he will easily move up my top 5 ranks.

PASSING THE TORCH? 2010 would have been 25 years since Nike launched the AIR JORDAN signature shoe. Over the course of those years MJ has 23 different pairs of his signature shoe and he has never allowed anyone to promote his shoe. With a stable of talented ball players like Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul, Jordan hand picked his newest client Dwyane Wade to be the pitchmen for the 25th Anniversary shoe. Obviously Mike is too old to reach out to the young sneaker/gym shoe buyer but with Wade growing up admiring MJ in Chicago and being personally attached to the true MJ era of the 90s, Wade seems to be a no brainer for the Jordan Brand. Congrats D. Wade take a look at the unveiling!
LEBRON, 2010: Enough already!!! LeBron doesn’t want to speak any longer about free-agency. In fact he said so before taking the court in Orlando last night. I understand his reasoning for doing so but one would think LeBron would have done so during his media day after answering the 50 million questions about FA2010. In fact moments after making the “big statement” James made an even bigger statement by wearing his NY Yankees Nike’s that featured the #27 on one shoe for the Yankees 27 titles and NY on the other. Sure the Yankees are his favorite team and Jay-Z his one of his best friends but no matter what he says he always seems to have an “Empire State of Mind.”
MANning of the Decade: Last Sunday Peyton Manning became the first QB in NFL history to pass for over 40,000 yards in one decade. And to think this decade has yet to end! There’s also word that he has sold the most products in a decade in NFL history as well but my sources have yet to confirm that stat. “CUT THAT MEAT…CUT THAT MEAT.”

Just A Thought…NYY State of Mind: Wednesday night the New York Yankees captured their 27th World Series pennant. Fans marveled at their collection of talent this season and in their franchise history. Many say this is the best franchise ever while others may argue it’s the best franchise “money can buy”. Either way the Yankees have managed to do one thing consistently over the years WIN. In the 20s they won 3 titles, 5 in the 30s, 4 in the 40s, 6 in the 50s, 2 each in the 60s and 70s, 3 more in the 90s and finally capping off the first decade in the 2000s with their second pennant. So while its true the Yankees brass shell out a lot of money in order to outbid other teams for the best players around the fans of New York can only love their organization for attempting to produce a winner on a yearly basis. Regardless of whether or not you love or hate the Yankees for how they run their team always remember this, in life and in sports: One would rather be HATED for who they are than to be LOVED for who they are not. The Yankees are winners and to the average fan you have to Love that state of mind.
NFL: PICK 6! WEEK 9 Predictions: As we approach the halfway point in the NFL season only 2 teams remain undefeated. One resides in New Orleans (Saints) and the other is led by a New Orleans Native (Colts, Peyton Manning). Indy boasts the #1 passing offense (316.3 ypg) and the Saints have the most balanced attack with the #1 total offense (428.7 ypg). The two teams won’t meet during the regular season but one could only hope to see the two high powered offenses meet in Miami in February…unless you’re a fan of the other 30 teams in the L. Well enough about those two let’s kick off another week of predictions around the NFL.Bye Week: Bills, Browns, Jets, Raiders, Rams and Vikings.
1. (4-3) RAVENS @ (5-2) BENGALS- Currently 1 game separates the two in their AFC North standings but come Sunday nothing will come between the two but the crisp air in Cincinnati. The key to winning will be rushing the ball and stopping the run, easier said than done since the Bengals & Ravens rank 9th & 10th rushing and the Ravens are 4th against the run while the Bengals are surprisingly rank 5th against the run. So what gives? The passing game! At a glance many will tip their caps in favor of Carson Palmer but the numbers show that the Bengals have troubled stopping teams from passing the ball allowing 253 ypg (30th). If the Bengals are going to contend in the AFC they must protect their home field. The Bengals should be sharp coming off their bye week but the Ravens should have the momentum after dismantling the previously unbeaten Broncos last week. Keep in mind these two teams do not like each other and the Bengals one round 1 earlier in the season and the Ravens will seek revenge. Prediction: RAVENS by 4
2. (5-3) TEXANS @ (7-0) COLTS-Quick what’s the Texans record? Okay you looked! Had I not posted their record many of you may have been scratching your head because Houston is quietly 2 games above .500. They’ve managed to do so with their quick strike offense with Schaub & Andre Johnson. As for the Colts one may be quick to point out the fact that they have the #1 passing “O” in the L but a big reason for their unblemished record is because they hold their opponents to 13.0 ppg, also a #1 ranking. So while many may believe this game will be a shootout the fact that Peyton Manning is such a game manager he’ll do his best to attack Houston in a variety of ways keeping Schaub and company on the sidelines watching a more polished offense maneuver up and down the field. The first half of this game may be entertaining but in the end the #1 QB in the NFL will find a way to prevail. Prediction:COLTS by 7
3. (3-4) DOLPHINS @ (5-2) PATRIOTS- In the first few weeks of the season the Patriots offense struggled to find its rhythm but in the couple of weeks leading to its bye week they seemed to find the rhythm that allowed them to set records back in 2007. As for the Dolphins they continue to set a trend of their own with the wildcat offense. The Dolphins attempt to play defense on offense by playing the “time of possession” game. The longer Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are on the field the less time their opponents have to strike back. While the equation sounds simple enough they still have a 3-4 record and in the famous words of the ‘Fins boss (Bill Parcells) “you are what your record says you are.” Look for New England to come out firing with hopes of forcing the Dolphins to be a one-dimensional team. Belichick faced the ‘Fins and their dynamic offense twice last season so rest assured that the Pats’ coaching staff used their extra week off to prepare for assignment football against the Wildcat offense. Even if the ‘Fins have added a few wrinkles to their playbook if they don’t find a way to get to Tom Brady and stop his aerial attack then they’ll simply notch another W in the highlights and another L in the loss column. Then again you are what your record says you are. Look for the Pats to continue to be winners. Prediction: PATRIOTS by 3
4. (4-3) CHARGERS @ (5-3) GIANTS: The Chargers & Giants seem to be moving in two totally different directions. The Chargers started out slow losing 3 of 5 before winning their last 2 games whereas the Giants began the season 5-0 before dropping their last 3 games. So which team will continue their trend? The Chargers are currently 2-1 on the road with their lone loss coming on the East Coast (at Steelers). As for the Giants its tough to pin point what exactly is the problem but one could start with the play of their offense. The G-Men need their backs to get the ball moving to make things easier downfield for baby Manning and his receivers. Both teams will be fighting for their lives in order to escape the ranks of mediocrity. With the game being so evenly matched I myself would have to lean in favor of the home team. Prediction: GIANTS by 1
5. (5-2) COWBOYS @ (5-2) EAGLES: The difference between the two 5-2 teams is simple: the ‘Boys win ugly and the Eagles doing it with style. Romo seems to always find a way to get the ball to unsung heroes such as Miles Austin & Sam Hurd whereas McNabb seems to connect with DeSean Jackson 50+ yards in the air on every TD. Regardless of their contrasting styles both teams have the same record and needs the victory to take a half game lead in their division above the Giants. The Cowboys have 3 talented running backs whereas Philly has a banged up Brian Westbrook (expected to play) and a rookie backup that’s dynamic but struggles against the blitz. The difference in the game will be the Special Teams. DeSean Jackson add that dynamic to a team whereas he threatens to hit a home run every time he touches the ball and if nothing else he will give McNabb and the offense great field position. This NFC battle will be exciting as always but the QB that stays off the turf the longest will come out with the Win. The Eagles’ blitz happy D will prevail.Prediction: EAGLES by 5
6. (5-2) STEELERS @ (6-1) BRONCOS: In the first half of the season the Steelers struggled to consistently play at their Super Bowl form. As for the Broncos they’ve exceeded expectations in the first half with a perfect 6-0 start before being brought back down to reality by another AFC North opponent. Denver will look to get things back on track starting with their #1 ranked defense. The Broncos goal will be to stop the Steelers from pounding them at the line and force the Steelers into third and long situations with hopes that Big Ben will turn the ball over. As for the Steelers their defense will be flying all over the field giving Orton various looks in an attempt to confuse the QB and force him out of his comfort zone in the pocket. Both teams live and die by their defense and the unit to win the turnover battle will notch another win in their belt. Prediction: STEELERS by 7

NBA: Starting 5: My weekly take on the best of the best on the hardwood!
Best Team: CELTICS, at 6-0 this team has been affectionately named the Boston “D” Party, holding opponents to 79.8 ppg!
Best Player: CARMELO ANTHONY, ‘Melo is playing with a chip on his shoulder averaging 34.5 ppg and has is team currently the only undefeated squad in the West!
Best Rookie: BRANDON JENNINGS, the rookie in Milwaukee caught flack for bypassing college for a year in Italy, but it appears his stint in Europe taught him more than a new language. In his first NBA game he posted 17 pts 9 reb 9 asst.
6th Man: JAMAL CRAWFORD, seems to be meshing with his new mates in Atlanta quite well averaging 15.8 points (in 25 minutes) off the bench. Something this young Hawks squad needed to compete with the elite.
Most Improved: ANDREA BARGNANI, the 7-foot Italian Stallion expected to be another role player on the Raptors, has gotten off to a hot start averaging 22.0 ppg. That’s 7 points up from his average last season.
FREE-THROWS!: Weekly News & Notes
Rush to Judgment?: After fumbling the ball for the 5th time this season the Texans benched RB Steve Slaton in favor of Ryan Moats and he responded last week with 100+ yards. Still no word on whether Moats will remain the starter but if Slaton is your fantasy RB look for his touches to drop this week.
Practice?: If Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin is speaking out about a new contract he’s probably speaking about a nagging injury. Two weeks ago he suffered a high ankle sprain and has set out practice the past two weeks because of it. But when Boldin was approached about his status vs. Bears he responded: “I’ll never be 100% healthy this season…” yet he still plans to play at Soldiers Field. If the Bears front 7 can get after Warner like they did Derek Anderson last week Boldin’s health won’t be a factor.
Heir Jordan: Marcus Jordan, son of Michael Jordan, refuses to wear Adidas while playing at the University of Central Florida (who has an Adidas contract). As a result, Adidas has stated that they will never sponsor the University again. Hopefully Heir Jordan will bring in enough J’s to go around (the whole Athletic Department).
Chief Concern: Believe it or not, RB Larry Johnson is 75 yards away from surpassing Priest Holmes as the all-time leading rusher in Chiefs history. Believe it or not, the Chiefs fans want things to stay that way. There has been an online petition started by the fans in Kansas City with hopes that the Chiefs will deactivate Johnson for the remainder of the season because he’s been “a black eye” to the entire organization. As of Wednesday night there are at least 1,400 signatures collected on the petition. I wonder if number 1 on the list is signed Priest Holmes?
ROMO MEET ROY.. Even though the Cowboys currently have a 5-2 record WR Roy Williams isn’t happy. The receiver thought to be the “Number 1 option” or T.O. replacement says he and Tony Romo are not on the same page. Which is weird since they’ve studied the same playbook since last year. When asked what the problem was, Roy stated he was doing what the #1 should do but the #2 is just getting all the balls. Well if you wanted to be technical Roy you’re not #1 or 2 or 3 for that matter. Here’s how Romo’s distribution chart looks (passes thrown) Witten: 48, Austin: 42, Crayton: 39, Williams: 37. So sorry Roy don’t be mad about being the #1 who isn’t getting the ball because in Romo’s eyes you’re his #4 so be the best #4 you can be!

Just A Thought…Action vs Reaction: In sports, teams often practice and game plan for their opponents strengths, weaknesses and tendencies. A well-prepared team often prepares but the team that reacts and adjust the best are more successful overall. The same practice in life is no different. No matter what situation you approach and no matter how prepared you will be things may not always go as planned. So whether its sports or life remember: Life is 5% “What happens” and 95% “How You React”, put it all together and get 100% in your results!
NFL: PICK 6! WEEK 8 Predictions: 11 of 13 games were settled by 10 points or more in Week 7. Needless to say it was a tough week all-around! Especially in Cincinnati for MY Bears. After being demolished 45-10 I can now come from behind my rock. Here’s a look ahead to Week 8…(Bye Week: Bengals, Chiefs, Patriots, Steelers, Buccaneers and Redskins)
1. (6-0) BRONCOS @ (3-3) RAVENS- Fresh off their bye week the Broncos look to take their undefeated record and top 5 defense to Baltimore and continue to prove their doubters that they are for real. As for the Ravens they are mad. No they are closer to being pissed about their .500 record and their inability to close out their opponents (see missed FG @Minnesota). The key factor in this match up will be the play of both teams’ defenses. Baltimore is known for their ability to fly to the ball but they haven’t been making the key tackles when needed. As for the Broncos they’ve rested their hats on their ability to rush the QB lead by DE Elvis Dumervil. The Ravens has a more balanced attack so if Denver has trouble stopping their run game this thing may go down to the wire. As for Denver’s “O”, Kyle Orton has been very efficient thus far only tossing 1 interception (on a hail mary) but if any defense will bring him back down to earth it is the secondary of the Ravens. Baltimore will get Orton rattled and pull out the W. Prediction: Ravens by 6
2. (2-4) DOLPHINS @ (4-3) JETS- It was just a few weeks ago when the Jets were in Miami on Monday Night facing the Dolphins and their wildcat offense. The game was the first in a Jets uni for WR Braylon Edwards and he seemed to have a coming out party, however Miami prevailed 31-27. After a shutout in Oakland the Jets will return home to host the Dolphins and I’m sure Coach Ryan will have a newly schemed defense to harness the Wildcat. Obviously Miami will do all they can to keep the Jets offense on the sideline but after they way they clicked last weekend I expect Sanchez & Co. to carry their momentum from last week into this Sunday (not to mention the revenge factor). Any game involving the Fins is entertaining and this one will be no different!Prediction:Jets by 3
3. (5-2) GIANTS @ (4-2) EAGLES- The Giants started the season 5-0 with the look of the “Best NFC Team” then they ran into the Saints (and Cardinals). Now they must travel down to Philly to face their division foe in the Eagles. The Giants’ passing game has struggled as of late so look for the GeeMen to rest on the shoulders of Brandon Jacobs & Ahmad Bradshaw in an attempt to allow their running game to setup the passing game. On the Eagles side of things, they didn’t look great against the ‘Skins on Monday Night but DeSean Jackson’s explosive plays seemed to do a great job of disguising their struggles. It all starts with their running game. RB Brian Westbrook just never seemed to get things going and halfway into the game he was knocked out of the contest with a concussion. The rookie LeSean McCoy has the ability to fill in for Westbrook but lacks the ability to pick up the blitz for McNabb. This will be a seesaw battle and if Coach Reid could do a better job at using Michael Vick they would have another weapon to keep the Giants defense on their heels. But he won’t. Prediction: Giants by 4
4. (2-4) SEAHAWKS @ (4-2) COWBOYS:With a 2-4 record one may wonder why the Seahawks are even in my “Pick 6” section, well this game will come in the form of a trap game for the Cowboys after their huge win against the Falcons. Dallas has to fight off the “Let Down Factor” after coming off the big win and facing the injury riddled Seahawks. Seattle is coming off their bye and had the chance to prepare for the ‘Boys for and extra week. Many believe Miles Austin may have been the answer to Romo’s prayers but after only 2 weeks of success expect for all NFL defenses to be on alert. The key to Dallas’ success is their three-headed monster at running back. If they can get their ground game going and make Matt Hasselbeck and his offense one dimensional. One thing on the side of Dallas is that when teams enter Jerry’s World for the first time they are so caught off guard by the humongous scoreboard that they often fall behind in the game due to being in awe of the stadium’s design. So Cowboys fans are on upset alert. Prediction: Seahawks by 2
5. (4-2) FALCONS @ (6-0) SAINTS:This will have us all glued to our screens on Monday Night. This is probably one of the biggest rivalries in the South. Both members of the NFC South call domes home and both have aspirations of winning their division but something must give. The past two weeks the Falcons secondary has given up over 600 passing yards and while they split the two games they can not be that generous against the Saints. As for New Orleans they’ve started the past two games slowly before exploding in their 4th quarters to remain undefeated. The key to this game will be ball control for Atlanta. The have to do their best to keep Brees & Co. on the sideline and make the spectators as opposed to playmakers. If Drew Brees is allowed multiple opportunities to score he will! The Saints defense has played superb thus far and will look to use their energy of their Superdome fans to protect their undefeated record. Prediction: Saints by 10
6. (6-1) VIKINGS @ (4-2) PACKERS:It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for, especially Brett Favre! Favre and his Vikings visit Lambeau Field to take on the franchise he resurrected in the 90’s. The last time the two teams met the Packers offense contained Adrian Peterson but the Vikings defense created turnovers that led to Minnesota’s victory. Well throw X’s and O’s out of this preview. Favre will be emotional in his return and he will attempt to win with his arm instead of with the playbook. The Packers have had to listen to all the BF4 talk and will take it all out on Favre and his teammates come Sunday. The Packers will come together to backup their QB and prove to their home crowd that the organization is in good hands with Rodgers. The game will be entertaining but look for the 40-year-old Favre to show up and not the 33-year-old that led the Packers to their Super Bowl victory.Prediction: Packers by 3

Just A Thought…PLAN ACCORDINGLY…If life was as easy as clichés no one would need experience for advancement but life isn’t that simple. It’s been said that the early bird gets the worm. So, we all know the importance of preparation and timeliness in order to do our best at whatever task that is in front of us. But what if being early made one late? What if being early was viewed as disrespect? All things should not be approached the same. Sports are no different. No matter what a team game plans before facing an opponent because one tactic that is effective against team A may not work against team B. So yes it’s been said that the early bird gets the worm but remember the second mouse gets the cheese! Plan accordingly.
NBA News & Notes:
This time next week we’ll all be glued to our flat screens tuned in to the first week of NBA on TNT. Believe it or not the NBA is back (and so our its Refs!) So will the Lakers defend their title? Will the Hawks finally win 50 games? And who will win MVP, Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and most of all who win rein supreme in June? Look no further here are my Sure Fire predictions for the 2009-10 NBA season.
EASTERN CONFERENCE (predicted order of finish)
CELTICS- A healthy KG and motivated ‘Sheed equals danger for the East!
CAVALIERS- LBJ wants to redeem himself after failing to reach the Finals
MAGIC- One of the deepest teams in the NBA, first 10 games w/o Rashard.
HAWKS- With Jamal Crawford Atl will be tough to defend down the stretch
WIZARDS- Arenas is healthy and the core is in place. Surprise team of season
BULLS- Noah’s Arc team of the NBA: 2 deep at every position
RAPTORS- Turkoglu will make a good 1-2 punch with Bosh.
HEAT- Tough to count out Dwyane Wade (plus it’s a contract year!)
WESTERN CONFERENCE (predicted order of finish)
LAKERS- Kobe+Artest=the toughest set of wings in the NBA!
SPURS- Quietly got deeper w/McDyess/Jefferson (and a healthy Manu)
NUGGETS- Denver has confidence after Conf. Finals run but is it enough?
MAVERICKS- Dirk is fresh and added depth in front court makes them better
BLAZERS- On paper Blazers can win a lot of games but chemistry needs work
HORNETS- CP3 makes them a playoff team but
JAZZ- As long as Sloan is the coach this team will compete
SUNS- The 8th spot will be tough to secure but the Suns should run and get it!

Rookie of Year: Blake Griffin (Clippers)
Defensive Player of Year: Dwight Howard (Magic)
Coach of Year: Flip Saunders (Wizards)
Most Improved Player: Brook Lopez (Nets)
Most Valuable Player: LeBron James (Cavaliers)
NBA FINALS:LAKERS OVER CELTICS
NFL: PICK 6! WEEK 7 Predictions: I had a rough week 6 after witnessing my Bears first hand shooting themselves like Plaxico Burress! Good thing it was in Atlanta because they will get a second chance unlike Plaxico…Okay enough about my boys let’s take a look at this week’s schedule. (Bye Week: Broncos, Lions, Titans, Seahawks, Jaguars and Ravens)
1. (3-2) CARDINALS @ (5-1) GIANTS- After a slow start to the season the Cardinals have bounced back after a big win in Seattle. The Giants were rolling winners of 5 straight before being brought back to reality by the Saints in the Superdome. So what will give? The Giants are at home and will do their best to get their running game going. Eli and his receivers have been clicking thus far but their defense will have to pick themselves as they get set to face another explosive passing offense. With Anquan Boldin nursing a sore ankle the Cards may be primed for a let down. Look for the G-Men to get things going early and run away with the win. Prediction: Giants by 8
2. (4-1) FALCONS @ (3-2) COWBOYS- For those who still think Matt Ryan and the Falcons aren’t a serious contender in the NFC then tune in this Sunday. The Falcons have one of the most balanced attacks on offense with Turner/Norwood in the backfield and Roddy White/Tony Gonzalez downfield. But the Cowboys are coming off a bye week and getting healthy as RB Marion Barber and DE DeMarcus Ware both look to return from injury. Dallas has made some changes benching Patrick Crayton in favor of Miles Austin but that still may not be enough to defeat the dirty birds. This game will be very entertaining but if I had to pick the biggest difference in the game it would be the play of Matt Ryan vs. Tony Romo. I’d rather have Ryan!Prediction:Falcons by 3
3. (5-0) SAINTS @ (2-3) DOLPHINS-This is a trap game for the New Orleans Saints. The Saints seem unstoppable right now and the only way to keep Brees out of the end zone is by keeping him on the sideline! Then comes the Wildcat offense. The Dolphins only have 2 wins on the season but their Wildcat offense has been so effective those 3 wins by the opposition were earned down the stretch of those games. If Miami protects the ball and continues to run the wildcat effectively this could be the upset of week 7! This is just an alert because I still have to go with the Saints until they prove otherwise. Prediction: Saints by 1
4. (3-2) BEARS @ (4-2) BENGALS:This is a unique match up because of the game within the game. Sure both teams are coming off tough losses and both teams need the win to position themselves for a potential playoff run but the true game (within the game) is between RB Cedric Benson and the Bears front 7. For the past few weeks the Bears have had to answer questions from the media about the success of Benson and they’ve all applauded his early season efforts. But the ex-Bear Cedric Benson has had nothing but negative things to say about the team that drafted him. If Benson finds himself trying to prove a point on the field it could backfire by a stingy Bears defense forcing him to turnover the ball. Both Palmer and Cutler have looked great at times and average at other times so the team to win the turnover battle will win the game. Good luck Ced, your mouth wrote a check let’s see if your running will cash it! Prediction: Bears by 4
5. (6-0) VIKINGS @ (4-2) STEELERS:This should be the game of the week. The defending champs are at home and will welcome in one of the hottest teams in the NFL in the Vikings. Both teams sit atop their perspective divisions and would love to walk away with the win to remain there. Both teams defense is very tough against the run but the difference will once again be the play of the QB’s. Big Ben has always been tough to bring down and Favre uses his cannon as an equalizer. When two teams are evenly matched (as these two titans) the edge normally goes to the home squad. Things should go as history tells us. Prediction: Steelers by 3
6. (3-2) 49ERS @ (3-3) TEXANS:The first three weeks of the season the ‘Niners seemed to be a true force in the NFC. But then things changed and they are in jeopardy of slipping back into mediocrity. As for the Texans they have one of the most explosive offenses in the AFC but can’t seem to stop anyone! Any game involving these two teams are tough to call so with them facing one another things are even tougher. If the Texans can get to Shaun Hill early and limited the ‘Niners possessions, Matt Schaub & Company should have no problem doing the rest. Prediction: Texans by 1
