    FA Cup Review

Monday, January 7, 2008, 11:41 AM EST [Premier League]

Well out of the three ties i picked to provide an upset, only one came to fruition although i still fancy Stoke to beat Newcastle in the replay. Here is my thoughts on a few of the other shocks of the round.
Bolton 0 Sheff Utd 1 This is the one shock i did predict with the Trotters looking toothless without Anelka and Davies to play off. It has got to infuriate Bryan Robson that his side can raise themselves for this tie yet continue to struggle in the Championship. Megson now may have to cope without Anelka who looks like he is on his way to Chelsea so don't be surprised to see Bolton dragged back into the relegation battle.

Huddersfield 2 Birmingham 1 This was a big shock especially considering that Alex Mccleish played a near full strength side. Give all the credit to Hudersfield but Brum were awful on the day. I expect Mccleish to make wholesale changes to this squad and if you are to believe what you read, most of the new faces will come from north of the border. At least Birmingham fan take comfort that Aston Villa also went out..... although  losing to Man Utd is hardly the same as losing to a League One outfit.

Blackburn 1 Coventry 4 What is going on at Blackburn? Okay so they rested Santa Cruz and Nelsen to name a few but there can be no excuse for losing at HOME to a mediocre Coventry. Mark Hughes needs to turn things around quickly or he could find himself in serious trouble. Coventry have now knocked Man Utd and Blackburn out of the domestic cups so give Ian Dowie some credit for this result.

Everton 0 Oldham 1 This was the shock of the round in my opinion as a strong Everton side lost at home to League One Oldham. I'm not sure why a goalkeeper needs to be rested but i do feel Tim Howard would have done better on the goal but i will go easy on the Toffees as i do feel they have one eye on their Carling Cup Semi with Chelsea.

And finally the worst performance of the weekend was watching Liverpool be thoroughly outplayed by Luton. All credit to the Hatters for putting all the financial issues to the side and producing a gutsy, wholehearted display.
