Randy Moss has re-signed with the New England Patriots, and I for one, am very happy about that. As has been stated and implied throughout this blog, I am a purist when it comes to sports. I favor dynasties over parity, and enjoy seeing history made, even if it's against my teams (except for the `04 ALCS). So when there was talk of Moss leaving the Patriots, I couldn't help but feel bad about not seeing Brady to Moss anymore. To have had only one year of that would have been a tease and had people asking for years to come, "what if..." Fortunately, with Moss now signing with New England we won't have to wonder, but will instead be able to watch these two Hall of Famers work their magic together for at least three more years.
This will further enhance the rivalry between the Patriots and the Colts, as well as the one between Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. As Moss said during the season, Manning's had receivers his entire career, now it's Brady's turn to play with a great one.
With all of that said, I couldn't believe there was any doubt in Moss' head about whether to re-up with the Pats or not. I understand there is bargaining to be done, especially since this is the first time in his career that he was a free agent. Yet Moss always talks about wanting to win a Super Bowl, and how that's the only thing that's missing from his career. Well if that's the case, teaming with Brady seems to give him his best chance, not trying to re-create something he had with Daunte Culpepper five years ago as had been discussed. Nevertheless, in the end everyone got what they wanted: the Patriots kept Moss, and Moss got his money.
Speaking of money, let's talk about another Patriot, or should we say former Patriot? Asante Samuel signed a six year - $57 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles last week, and said at his press conference, "I just want a chance to be able to win and get back to the Super Bowl. That's why I picked the Philadelphia Eagles."
Really? Asante, you really think the Eagles have a better shot at going to and winning a Super Bowl than the New England Patriots? What would possibly give you this impression? No, the reason you signed there was because the Eagles paid you top dollar. You signed with a team that wears green because you wanted some green. Oh, and just so you know, the Eagles fans don't always support their team. As a matter of fact, they're notorious for not supporting them. So that first time you get burned by Plaxico Burress for a touchdown, just remember they're not saying, "burrrrrr," for Burress.
I apologize for not having written in a while, but I will get back on track, and be sure to post more frequently. Thanks for all of your patience and support!
