    Championship Sunday

Saturday, January 19, 2008, 07:40 PM EST [NFL Championship Games]

So we're only hours away from Championship Sunday, and I have to admit, I'm actually very excited about it (and no, it's not because the Giants are in it). Instead, I'm excited because I think we're going to see one great game, and another where we take one step closer to making history.

Let's cover the easy one first, Pats-Chargers. It's hard enough to take down the best team in football with your starting quarterback healthy, but to do so most likely without him, well just imagine how much harder the task becomes. Unfortunately for the Chargers, the health of Phillip Rivers is not their only problem. Tight end Antonio Gates will play, but will not even be close to 100%, LaDainian Tomlinson says he'll be healthy, but after his injury last week, that could be tough, and oh yeah, the Patriots are still upset with the way Tomlinson called them "classless" after last year's playoff loss. So with all that said, and the game being played in Foxboro, I'm looking for the Pats to win comfortably, 35-17.

Now to the Giants-Packers...This may not have been the game most envisioned, but frankly, it has the potential to be AWESOME. First things first, the weather. Whenever the weather drops to near zero degrees, people immediately think of the Ice Bowl .Well, after last week's winter wonderland up in Green Bay, we can only hope for more of the same. Was there a better image this entire season than Brett Favre running around in the snow shoveling the ball before falling to the ground (maybe T.O. crying during the post-game press conference, but I was referring to on the field)?

As for the game, this can get very interesting. Immediately following the Giants victory over the Cowboys I thought they had a really good shot at beating Green Bay, and I still do for that matter. They have been unbelievable on the road this year (9-1 with nine straight wins), have a running back combination that is awesome thanks to the emergence of Ahmad Bradshaw, and have most likely the best front four in all of football. But while I was leaning towards the Giants winning the NFC Championship game earlier in the week, I am now leaning the other way, and believe it will be the Packers heading to Arizona to take on the Patriots in a rematch of Super Bowl XXXI. There is just something about this Packers team that has me very intrigued. Brett Favre has proven the critics wrong by having a fantastic season, and the discovery of Ryan Grant has given Green Bay the balance it so desperately needed on offense. Combine that with the home field advantage (only two playoff losses ever at Lambeau), and the Packers take it in a close one 24-21.

Enjoy the games everyone, and stay tuned for some quick hits on this weekend in sports.
