Everyone is making too big a deal about the American League winning the All-Star Game every year. When I was a kid, the NL won 11 in a row from 1972-82. While the AL probably has more talent at the moment, the string of results is more random than anything else. Also, it's a freaking exhibition game, people!

Who's off: Everyone, for one more day. The MLB season resumes with eight games on Thursday. Here's the full schedule, and the probable starters for Thursday are as follows (per MLB.com):

  • Mets v. Braves: Oliver Perez/Derek Lowe
  • Cubs v. Nats: Rich Harden/Ross Detwiler
  • Mariners v. Indians: Garrett Olson/Cliff Lee
  • Brewers v. Reds: Braden Looper/Homer Bailey
  • Phillies v. Marlins: Jamie Moyer/Chris Volstad
  • Angels v. A's: Ervin Santana/Dallas Braden

Cut me some slack if I'm a little incoherent today. I had a bad night's sleep, since my five-year-old daughter appears to have picked up a new hobby - sleepwalking! Can that be a one-time thing? %$#@!

Who's off: Nobody

First pitch: The Pirates and Astros play the first National League game at 2:05 p.m. ET, while the Orioles and Mariners get the AL slate underway at 4:40. Here's the full schedule.

Pitcher to start: I guess Jordan Zimmermann can't win 'em all. We're under .500 again at 49-50.

Tonight we'll double-dip, taking regular choice Max Scherzer (27 percent owned) against the Padres, and Hiroki Kuroda (22.8 percent owned) against the Mets' replacement team.

On to the news:

  • Cubs SP Ryan Dempster is on the DL with a broken big toe, which he suffered jumping over the dugout railing

In case you missed it, Derek Jeter was called out at third base yesterday on a play where the third baseman clearly missed the tag. Jeter claims that the ump told him he was out simply because the ball beat him to the bag, and said, "I was told I was out because the ball beat me, and he didn't have to tag me. I was unaware they had changed the rules." Jeter sounds classy even when he's skewering someone, doesn't he?

Who's off: Nobody

First pitch: We've got a 7:05 p.m. ET start in each league. Here's the full schedule.

Pitcher to start: The champagne corks popped last night at Halpin Blog Central, as Randy Wells' strong start finally got our picks to .500 on the season (49-49). The sky's the limit from here, folks.

Tonight's pick is an easy one - I'm not getting off Jordan Zimmermann's
