Happy Turkey Day, folks. We're going to structure the blog a little differently this morning, with quick looks at any fantasy-related items on today's trio of games, followed by the rest of the news. Packers-Lions (12:30 p.m. ET): Lions QB Matthew Stafford (shoulder) is doubtful, meaning that we're likely to see Daunte Culpepper under center. If you have the Packers' defense, start them, even though they recently lost a couple of key players due to injuries ... WR Calvin Johnson (hand, knee) is questionable. If you own Johnson, bench him now unless you can wait for the inactive lists to be released ... If you're looking for a receiver that might benefit from Johnson's absence, I'd go with rookie TE Brandon Pettigrew, who has 15 receptions for 165 yards and two TDs in his last ...

Hey, how about those Giants? As my dad said, they can't stop anybody, and Steve Politi of the Newark Star-Ledger writes that Eli Manning is "the one thing separating the Giants from oblivion." I guess that means he's going to keep throwing a lot, huh? On to the news:

Congrats to my New York Yankees on their 27th World Series championship. You know what would have been a good headline for one of the NYC tabloids to use this morning? 27TH HEAVEN, since the Yanks won their 27th title. What's that? The New York Daily News already used it? OK. How about the New York Post? The same, exact headline? Ouch. On to the news:

Since it's Friday, here's our weekly look at what you can do for Sunday morning lineup assistance:
Now that we've got that out of the way, and since I'm happy this morning because the Yankees beat the evil Pedro Martinez, let's get to the news:

Jets QB Mark Sanchez is donating hot dogs and hamburgers to a soup kitchen as part of an effort to make up for getting caught eating a dog on the sidelines during Sunday's game. This issue has been blown waaaaaaay out of proportion - Sanchez was playing against the Raiders, for crying out loud! He could have had a seven-course meal catered for him and his 52 teammates on the Oakland Coliseum sideline, and the Jets still would have won by three touchdowns. What's the problem? On to the news:

Rush Limbaugh has been tossed out of the group looking to buy the Rams. I'm no fan of Rush, but it's interesting that the NFL seemed to frown on a crazy right-wing commentator being part of a team's ownership, while a crazy left-wing commentator occupies a prominent chair on a network's weekly highlight show. (P.S. No, I don't know if Limbaugh uttered the controversial slavery quote referenced in this column. If he did, he's obviously an a**. If he didn't, I imagine he'll sue a lot of people.) The first full week of the NFL preseason starts tonight with four games: Redskins-Ravens, Pats-Eagles, Cowboys-Raiders and Cardinals-Steelers. Aside from Tom Brady's return, the Super Bowl XLIII rematch might be the most interesting for fantasy owners due to the teams' respective running back situations. The Steelers entered last season looking at a backfield timeshare between Willie Parker and Rashard Mendenhall. Mendenhall carried 19 times for 58 yards over the season's first four games before Ray Lewis busted his shoulder, ending his rookie season. Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette notes that Mendenhall could start tonight due to Willie Parker's recent back spasms, and head coach Mike Tomlin said that Mendenhall "acts like a guy who has been here before, ... |
