With the weekend upon us, here's your usual guide on how you'll be able to get some last-minute lineup help:

  • Listen to FOX Fantasy Freaks Mike Harmon, Nate Lundy and Peter Burns from 10 a.m. until noon ET on XM 142 or foxsportsradio.com. You can call in with questions, or send them to the boys via Twitter.
  • Chat live on FOXSports.com with Roger Rotter from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
  • Send me a question via Twitter, or shoot an e-mail to jhalpin37@gmail.com. I'll be in some meetings Sunday morning, so while I'll do my best to reply to messages then, I can't guarantee anything after Saturday night this week.

On to the news:

Congrats to my New York Yankees on their 27th World Series championship. You know what would have been a good headline for one of the NYC tabloids to use this morning? 27TH HEAVEN, since the Yanks won their 27th title. What's that? The New York Daily News already used it? OK. How about the New York Post? The same, exact headline? Ouch.

On to the news:

  • The Lions' week is off to a rough start. WR Calvin Johnson was limited in Wednesday's practice due to his lingering right knee injury, and his status will probably be a gametime decision. RB Kevin Smith missed Wednesday's practice because of the shoulder issue that made him leave last week's game, but he said he'll practice today. Keep an eye on both players as kickoff approaches; I think they'll both play, but Johnson might

Good morning, folks. Since I'm a Yankee fan, after posting this blog entry today, I plan to spend the next 36 hours curled up in the fetal position under my desk. Andy Pettitte on three days' rest in Game 6, huh? Let's say I'm skeptical. Or that I think he's going to get pummeled. I'm hoping for a 10-8 win.

On to the news:

  • With Chiefs RB Larry Johnson set to serve his Twitter/gay/fan insult suspension this week, running backs Jamaal Charles and Kolby Smith shared carries in practice last week. Since Charles seems to fit the profile of a third-down back, I wondered if Smith might get a bigger workload, but this Kansas City Star story suggests that Charles will get first crack at the feature back duties. If you need a one-week starter, you could probably do worse than Charles.
  • The Chargers

It sounds like we're going to have an old-fashioned grudge match between Cedric Benson and the Bears this weekend. Benson will have a chip on his shoulder because the team said "negative things" about him after releasing him, while the Bears are probably mad that a guy who stunk when he played for them is now third in the NFL in rushing. Should be fun.

On to the news:

  • Haven't we heard this before? Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin missed Wednesday's practice with a sprained ankle, and his playing status will probably be a gametime decision. Since his game is Sunday night, you're almost certainly going to have to bench him. Owning this guy is a headache, isn't it?
  • Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that RB Rashard Mendenhall "has earned the right to take the majority of snaps as

If you drafted Broncos WR Eddie Royal, did you play him last night when he had TDs on both punt and kickoff returns? Sorry, I didn't mean "Broncos WR Eddie Royal" - I meant "WR Eddie Royal of the 6-0 Broncos." Holy $#@!

On to the news:

  • Multiple Bay Area reports indicate that WR Michael Crabtree will start his first game for the 49ers on Sunday, and WR Josh Morgan told the Santa Rosa Press Democrat that Crabtree would be taking his spot this week. Crabtree has impressed the 49ers since signing his contract, and he could be ready to make a quicker impact that we all expected. He's owned in 54 percent of FOXSports.com leagues, and is absolutely worth a pickup if you can get him.
  • In other 49ers news, remember that RB Frank Gore is expected to return this week. He's been out since

Redskins head coach Jim Zorn apparently isn't going to get fired today, but he will give up the team's playcalling duties. They play the Eagles at home next Monday night, so we'll all get to see what happens when this plan doesn't work, either.

On to the news:

  • And you thought RB Sammy Morris was finally going to show his stuff for the Patriots. After Morris left Sunday's game in the first quarter with a leg injury, Laurence Maroney went off, carrying 16 times for 123 yards and a touchdown. The Pats didn't offer any updates on Morris' condition after the game, so we'll need to keep an eye on his condition during the week. As for Maroney, he's owned in just 42 percent of FOXSports.com leagues, and is an obvious free-agent target this week. I feel like we've seen this all before,

Rookie Mark Sanchez has been named as the Jets' starting quarterback, which isn't a surprise. He obviously shouldn't be your starting fantasy quarterback, but is he worth drafting at all?

While this may sound like a simplistic analogy due to Rex Ryan's history with the Ravens, a good fantasy comp for Sanchez might be Joe Flacco. Flacco started as a rookie last year on a similar team - a good, blitzing defense with a solid running game and one good receiver but no elite ones. Flacco threw for 2,971 yards and 14 TDs, both of which ranked 20th in the NFL.

I wouldn't draft Sanchez as a QB2, but neither will a lot of other people, as he's owned in just 13.8 percent of FOXSports.com leagues. Keep an eye on him, and if he starts to improve toward the middle of the season - like
