Jets QB Mark Sanchez is donating hot dogs and hamburgers to a soup kitchen as part of an effort to make up for getting caught eating a dog on the sidelines during Sunday's game. This issue has been blown waaaaaaay out of proportion - Sanchez was playing against the Raiders, for crying out loud! He could have had a seven-course meal catered for him and his 52 teammates on the Oakland Coliseum sideline, and the Jets still would have won by three touchdowns. What's the problem?
On to the news:
- The Titans are expected to announce today if they'll keep Kerry Collins as their starting quarterback, or switch to Vince Young for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. My money's on Young, and even though I have no idea how good he is at this point, it's hard not to be intrigued by his running ability from a fantasy perspective. During his first two seasons in the NFL, Young had 947 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in 30 games. Maybe I'm a glutton for bad passing punishment, but if your fantasy QB1 is solid, then VY probably worth a flier as your backup. (UPDATE, 12:22 p.m. ET: The Nashville Tennesseean reports that Young will start.)
- The Chiefs have suspended RB Larry Johnson for two weeks due to his neverending ability to be an obnoxious jerk. The Chiefs have a bye this week, but Johnson won't be allowed to play in Week 9, and if you think that will be the end of this fiasco, you're kidding yourself. Many fantasy owners are jumping on Jamaal Charles (owned in 11.83 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) as Johnson's replacement, but my good friend and world-famous sport management professor Steve Dittmore tells me that his former Louisville pupil, Kolby Smith, is in the "best shape of his life," and the Kansas City Star reports that Smith and Charles shared the carries in Wednesday's practice. I'm just saying ...
- QB Matthew Stafford practiced yesterday for the Lions, but WR Calvin Johnson didn't. The Lions still seem to think Johnson can play this week, but I have a feeling you're going to be waiting until Sunday morning to find out for sure. Make sure your backup plan is ready.
- Speaking of waiting until Sunday morning, the Eagles are saying that RB Brian Westbrook's status will be a gametime decision, but after reading this article, I'm still betting against it.
- The Texans still expect WR Andre Johnson to play this week despite his bruised lung. How tough do you have to be to do that? Can you imagine waking up this morning with your bruised lung, and thinking, "I probably won't do much today, but I'm pretty sure I'll be ready to play a game of tackle football by Sunday." I'd probably think I was a hero if I was able to play in a darts league with that injury.
- After initial reports of a season-ending broken leg, the Redskins are now saying that TE Chris Cooley could be back as soon as Week 12. Unless you're dying to hold roster space for a second tight end, I'd still say it's OK to waive Cooley. Vernon Davis, Visanthe Shiancoe and Brent Celek are all owned in less than 60 percent of leagues around here, while Green Bay's Donald Lee, who will fill in for the injured Jermichael Finley against the Vikings this week, is 25 percent owned. You have plenty of options.
- Jets WR Jerricho Cotchery says he's "ready to go" after missing two games with a hamstring injury. He should buy Sanchez a hot dog if the Jets are winning big in the fourth quarter.
- After the bye, the Bucs' new QB will be ... drum roll, please ... rookie Josh Freeman! Congratulations to Freeman, who I wouldn't touch in fantasy with a 10-foot pole. If you're wavering, make sure to read this article about Freeman's, um, possible excess weight. If Freeman doesn't work out, the Bucs can always sign Jared (The Hefty Lefty) Lorenzen.
- The Panthers' starting QB this week will be ... drum roll, please ... Jake Delhomme! Last time Delhomme faced the Cardinals, in the divisional playoffs last season, he threw five interceptions. I guess things can't get worse, right?
- Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw had his injured foot looked at by a specialist yesterday, but he's been missing practice time all year due to that foot. Assume he'll play until you hear otherwise.
- It sounds like injured Raiders RB Darren McFadden won't be back for at least a few weeks. He's obviously angling for a spot on the 2009 All-Bust Fantasy team.
- The Dolphins appear to be shaking up their wide receiver rotation, with Ted Ginn Jr. about to find himself serving hot dogs in the stands.
- Neither WR Reggie Wayne nor RB Donald Brown practiced for the Colts on Wednesday. The Indianapolis Star calls Brown "unlikely" to play Sunday, but it sounds like Wayne will be available.
- The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that RB Jason Snelling's role "could increase in the coming weeks." Snelling had 67 yards on the ground against the Cowboys last week. I think I'd have to be really desperate to pick up Snelling.
- Colleague John Juhasz will host a live fantasy football chat today at 3 p.m. John's a Cleveland native, so in between sending your fantasy football questions, make sure to ask how he feels about the Indians alumni game at the World Series last night.
- Here's my latest "Wide Write" video blog at FOXNews.com, along with its accompanying column. I'm developing a fantasy crush on Beanie Wells.
- Don't forget your byes this week. The Bengals, Chiefs, Patriots, Steelers, Buccaneers and Redskins are all off.
See you tomorrow.
