Rush Limbaugh has been tossed out of the group looking to buy the Rams. I'm no fan of Rush, but it's interesting that the NFL seemed to frown on a crazy right-wing commentator being part of a team's ownership, while a crazy left-wing commentator occupies a prominent chair on a network's weekly highlight show.
(P.S. No, I don't know if Limbaugh uttered the controversial slavery quote referenced in this column. If he did, he's obviously an a**. If he didn't, I imagine he'll sue a lot of people.)
On to the news:
- Lions WR Calvin Johnson "hobbled around stiff-legged" on his injured right knee instead of participating in Wednesday's practice, and his availability for Sunday is certainly in question. You'll need to keep an eye on Megatron-related updates as kickoff approaches.
- Both articles linked to in the previous item note that Lions QB Matthew Stafford was also limited in practice with a knee injury, so Daunte Culpepper could start again. Woo-hoo!
- It sounds like Steelers RB Willie Parker is on track to return Sunday, but if he does, he'll be wearing a shoe with a steel plate in it to protect his injured turf toe. I own Parker on a couple of teams, and if I'm making lineup decisions Sunday morning and thinking, "Do I want to start the running back with the steel plate in his shoe?", I'm probably going to go in another direction.
- This story says that Jets WR Jerricho Cotchery's status will probably be a gametime decision this week, while this one says the "early indication is that he will not play" against the Bills. Cotchery missed Wednesday's practice due to his troublesome hamstring injury.
- With PK Adam Vinatieri sidelined 4-8 weeks following knee surgery, the Colts signed Matt Stover to replace him.
- Vikings WR Percy Harvin didn't practice Wednesday due to a shoulder injury suffered in Week 5. Let's see if he's on the field today.
- Saints RB Mike Bell appears ready to play this week after missing a few games with a knee injury. The Saints aren't tipping their hand about how they're going to use Bell, Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush together, but if I owned Thomas I'd be worried about him losing carries after playing so well lately. If I owned Bush I'd just be really annoyed, every day.
- Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart missed practice to rest his Achilles yesterday, but he's been doing this every week, and Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald confirmed in a tweet to me there's probably nothing to worry about. Stewart is on track to play Sunday.
- After returning from injury in a relief role last week, Marc Bulger is expected to be back under center for the Rams when they visit Jacksonville this week.
- This article says that Eagles head coach Andy Reid plans to "continue rotating" RBs Brian Westbrook and LeSean McCoy. If you're a Westbrook owner, how much do you hate this fantasy season right now?
- If you hear Saints TE Jeremy Shockey complaining about the Giants this week, read the last item in this blog entry. No underachiever should talk as much, or be as full of $#@!, as that guy.
- Broncos RB Correll Buckhalter practiced yesterday after missing Week 5 with a sprained ankle, but his status for this week is TBD.
- Browns PK Phil Dawson, who has missed three games due to a calf injury, hopes to be back this week. If you've been looking to add a Browns' kicker to your fantasy roster, you're crazy in luck.
- Looking for some help this week? Roger Rotter will host a live chat today at 3 p.m. ET. Send your questions now!
- Don't forget your byes this week. The Cowboys, Colts, Dolphins and 49ers are off.
- This week's edition of the Wide Write video blog is up at FOXNews.com. Watch it now if you want to see my handsome mug offering more fantasy advice.
- Finally, I'd like to wish a very happy birthday to my son Luke, who turns two today. He'll be wearing his brand-new Eli Manning jersey when the Giants play the Saints this week. Luke was born at 3:30 p.m. on a Monday, and five hours after he was born, we sat in a hospital room chair and watched Eli throw for 303 yards as the Giants pummeled the Falcons. Happy Birthday, little man.
See you tomorrow.
