Every preseason, I write a prediction for every team that tries to step out on at least a little bit of a limb. This year, my Cubs' prediction was: "Milton Bradley will appear in fewer than 110 games." On Sunday, the Cubs suspended Bradley for the rest of the season, basically because they were sick and tired of his attitude. Most of his teammates sounded happy to see him go, and the Cubs will apparently try to trade him even if they have to eat much of the $21 million remaining on his contract.
Bradley appeared in 124 games, but I'd like to petition for an exception to my prediction. With a .257 batting average, 12 homers and 40 RBI, he definitely put up less than 110 games worth of production, and I was correct in trying to steer him away from fantasy owners. What do you think - can I get a break here? Don't I deserve it, Cubs fans? I told you this wouldn't work out.
Who's off: Rays, Tigers, Indians, Mariners, Nationals, Marlins, Phillies, Reds, Dodgers, Rockies
First pitch: The Padres and Pirates get the NL day underway at 7:05 p.m. ET, while the O's and Jays start two minutes later. Here's the full schedule.
Pitcher to start: We last left you at 88-86. Since then:
- Wednesday: Hiroki Kuroda was terrific.
- Thursday: Randy Wells and Justin Masterson were not. At all.
- Friday: Homer Bailey rocked!
- Saturday: Max Scherzer didn't get it done.
- Sunday: David Price pitched really well, but Paul Maholm wasn't quite good enough.
All that work, and now we're 91-90 with a bunch of really bad options today. At this point of the season, it might be more fun to look at the pitching probables and pick how many pitchers you think will get rocked. Lenny DiNardo, Pat Misch ... the opportunities are endless.
Today, I'll take a flier on Toronto's high-strikeout, high-walk David Purcey (1 percent owned) against the Orioles. Godspeed, David.
On to the rest of the news:
- The Dodgers' Web site reports that Clayton Kershaw will return to action this week for the first time since crashing into a wall during batting practice on September 3. Kershaw will pitch in relief on Wednesday, with an eye on starting once over the weekend and another time next week. Since Kershaw is in line for two appearances this week - even though they could be short ones - I'd feel comfortable activating him.
- After an okay debut outing for the White Sox on Saturday, Jake Peavy is scheduled to start again Friday.
- Chad Gaudin is officially the Yankees' fifth starter, and he'll go tomorrow against the Angels. Maybe he should be the fourth starter, since Joba Chamberlain is so awful. Andy Pettitte pitches tonight after skipping a turn due to shoulder soreness.
- Orioles' rookie OF Nolan Reimold is done for the season with an Achilles' tendon injury. He's having surgery, and is expected to be ready for spring training.
- Phillies reliever Brett Myers will be out until at least Thursday with a shoulder strain, and he'll know more after a visit to a doctor tomorrow. So much for him replacing Brad Lidge.
- Blue Jays SS Marco Scutaro left Sunday's game early with a heel injury, and his prognosis is unknown.
- Daisuke Matsuzaka won again Sunday, but wasn't quite as good this time. That's a good thing, since I didn't want to read another round of hysteria coming out of Boston this morning.
- It doesn't sound like Rangers 3B Michael Young is on track for an imminent return. Keep him benched until further notice.
- Kyle Lohse will start tonight for the Cardinals after missing a turn in the rotation due to some slight forearm discomfort.
- Mariners SS Jack Wilson is probably done for the season with a heel injury.
- One Bay Area columnist thinks it's time for the Giants to let Buster Posey play.
- The Pirates have shut down SP Ross Ohlendorf for the season, while 1B/OF Roy Hobbs Garrett Jones is expected to miss a few days with a sore shoulder.
- If you're in a daily transaction league, Angels 1B Kendry Morales will probably get tonight off.
- The Rockies appear to be waiting for a blowout to get Huston Street back on the mound. Don't be too hopeful about getting any saves from him this week.
- 1B Adam LaRoche (back) and SS Yunel Escobar (elbow) both missed Sunday's game. They seem to be in day-to-day mode.
- Today's Hot Streak pick is for Adrian Gonzalez to go deep against the Pirates. Make your selection now!

Trading Milton Bradley for Andre Ethier almost erases a Dodger fan's memory of trading Pedro Martinez for Delino Deshields. Almost.
