Happy Election Day, folks. I know the most important thing you do all day is read this blog, but when you're done, go exercise your constitutional right to vote, OK?
On to the news:
- The Browns announced a quarterback switch, benching Derek Anderson in favor of fan favorite Brady Quinn, who will start Thursday night at home against the Broncos. There's apparently some dissension in the Browns' locker room about the news, but that's not our problem. There's plenty of talent on the Cleveland offense, and Quinn was highly regarded coming out of college less than two years ago. I think it's possible for Quinn to put up the types of numbers you expected from Anderson this season, and I'd grab him if he's available in your league.
- Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger left Monday's game at halftime due to an injured shoulder, and we should know more today about his prognosis.
- Though the Bears haven't commented publicly yet on Kyle Orton's MRI, a source said he's going to miss 3-4 games, which was pretty much the initial diagnosis. But then another source told the Chicago Sun-Times that Orton's injury wasn't so bad. Either way, this week it's Rex, Rex, Rex!
- Matt Schaub's MRI showed that he has a torn knee ligament, and he could miss four games. In five starts last season, Sage Rosenfels threw for 951 yards, eight touchdowns and six interceptions. You could do worse than making Rosenfels your fantasy backup.
- The Broncos have lost every single one of their running backs for the season, and brought Terrell Davis out of retirement. OK, maybe it only seems that way. In reality, Michael Pittman and Andre Hall were placed on injured reserve, so they're done. Selvin Young is still nursing a groin injury, but he might be back Thursday against the Browns. By process of elimination if nothing else, rookie Ryan Torain is going to get plenty of work. He had three carries for a yard in Week 9, and the Rocky Mountain News said that Fantasy Hater Shanahan was hesitant to play Torain because he had little pass blocking experience. That Bronco offense sure went down the tubes, didn't it?
- FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer reports that Lions QB Dan Orlovsky will miss at least the next few weeks with a sprained thumb. While you dry your tears over that news, remember that Daunte Culpepper appears to be next in line. As I wrote Sunday, Culpepper hasn't played well since 2004, and he's on the Lions, for crying out loud. Don't do it.
- Here's a story about Bucs RB Earnest Graham being overworked. Head coach Jon Gruden said, "We've got to lean on our guy (Graham). He's our only healthy, versatile back going into the game, and that was our plan." That bodes well for the amount of touches he'll keep getting, even if Warrick Dunn returns after the bye week.
- Speaking of byes, the Bucs, Bengals, Cowboys and Redskins are off this week. And as mentioned earlier, the Broncos and Browns have a Thursday night matchup, so don't forget to set your lineups accordingly.
- Rams coach Jim Haslett said that Steven Jackson is going to have to prove he's healthy in practice this week before he's allowed to suit up against the Jets. With Antonio Pittman and Travis Minor also injured, your starting running back for the Rams could be ... Kenneth Darby? Yikes.
- Sounds like we've got a timeshare between Willis McGahee and Ray Rice in Baltimore. Don't the Ravens know how many people scrambled to pick up Le'Ron McClain a month ago?
- No matter how well Brent Celek played Sunday, the Eagles say that L.J. Smith (Rutgers!) will start at tight end this week if he's healthy.
- Remember that Shaun Hill starts at QB for the 49ers this week. He's on the road in Arizona, and that's not a bad matchup.
See you Thursday.
