After yesterday's win over the Cowboys, I think the NFL should let defenses play 13 people when the Giants run the ball. We need to make it fair, right?
On to the news:
- Just when he had turned into a solid fantasy starter, Bears QB Kyle Orton might miss a month due to the high ankle sprain he suffered Sunday against the Lions. Orton will have an MRI today, and in his absence the Bears will turn to the Jekyll-and-Hyde Rex Grossman, who was shaky in relief of Orton on Sunday. Up next for King Rex: The Titans at home, followed by the Packers at Lambeau. Uh-oh.
- The hits keep coming for the Chiefs, who lost RB Kolby Smith for the season with a knee injury. Larry Johnson has already been suspended for Week 10, but Jamaal Charles gained 106 yards against the Bucs on Sunday.
- In other Chiefs news, it might be time for fantasy owners to consider QB Tyler Thigpen, who threw one touchdown and caught another against the Bucs. The Chiefs installed a spread offense to mimic Thigpen's college setup, and they've scored 51 points in his last two starts.
- It's time to cut bait on Cardinals RB Edgerrin James, since he stayed anchored to the bench on Sunday while rookie Tim Hightower carried 22 times for 109 yards and a TD. You probably missed the boat if you haven't already grabbed Hightower, who's owned in 66.8 percent of FOXSports.com leagues. You might want to double-check, though.
- I was going to apologize for even mentioning the name Ryan Torain (three carries, one yard) leading up to Week 9, but nobody was able to run for the Broncos yesterday. Also, don't get fooled by Peyton Hillis' gaudy receiving stats - he's not going to catch seven passes every week.
- So much for sj39.com telling us that Rams RB Steven Jackson would play this week. He did play, but he carried seven times for just 17 yards. Fellow RBs Antonio Pittman (hamstring) and Travis Minor (concussion) suffered injuries as well. Where's Marshall Faulk when you need him?
- Texans QB Matt Schaub left Sunday's game with a knee injury, and today's MRI will provide more information. Sage Rosenfels put up some good numbers in Schaub's absence, and will face the Ravens at home this week if Schaub can't go.
- Ravens RB Willis McGahee was questionable all week. He was active yesterday, but spent the whole day on the bench anyway while Ray Rice (Rutgers!) gained 154 yards. I'd avoid the Ravens RBs like the plague moving forward, since you never know who's going to play.
- Lions WR Calvin Johnson had a strong game, catching eight passes for 94 yards and a TD. If you own Johnson, he's a must-start - they're going to force the ball to him every chance they get, whether the QB is Dan Orlovsky or Daunte Culpepper or Eric Hipple.
- It's been awhile since I've seen a worse fantasy stat line for a quarterback than Oakland's JaMarcus Russell put up yesterday (6-for-19, 31 yards, INT). It's a good thing that no alleged fantasy experts tabbed him as a starting option for the week. Well, maybe one did.
- Here's tonight's Steelers-Redskins preview. WR Santana Moss is questionable for the 'Skins, and the Steelers expect RB Willie Parker to return after missing four games with a knee injury.
See you tomorrow.
